I have Songbird running on another display on the same machine as my Mythtv frontend but while the frontend is running, audio seems to be disabled for it and other applications. I assume that this is because Mythtv suspends Pulse audio.
Is it possible to make this work without enabling pulse audio?
I mainly use KDE apps only, but a problem in Amarok is forcing me to look elsewhere. I'm not sure how long this issue has existed but I'm unable to play any sound from certain applications.
So far Rhythmbox, Exaile, Guayadeque, Firefox and Songbird don't produce any sound. Amarok, Juk, SMPlayer and VLC are fine. As the apps with problems are mainly Gnome/GTK apps, I'm suspecting a gstreamer problem.
My desktop is 11.3 x64 with KDE 4.6 beta 1. I've tried all three phonon backends, although Xine is the only one that works with Amarok. Pulse wasn't installed, I tried installing it but it didn't even detect my SPDIF output, so no audio whatsoever. Hardware is ATI HD4200 onboard sound card through the SPDIF output. Gstreamer is installed.
I have lucid and jack almost the way I want. I can't get apps like flash (in firefox) and rhythmbox to run through JACK. I've followed some outdated guides on the forums here, but I haven't had any luck.
I set up gstreamer to use jackaudiosink, but no luck.
If you ask me, JACK + ALSA should be the default, with maybe a simplified or automated control system for people who don't want to exploit their might
I hate having to close up a massive JACK patch just to watch a quick movie, or having to close Pidgin so JACK will start.
I am unable to play audio CDs. I have 2 CD drives and upon insertion of of a CD into the top drive, it notices the CD and asks what I want to do... Play with Kaffeine results in it opening, but then nothing happens. When I do the same thing with the CD in the bottom drive, it plays the first track of the CD but nothing else. Every time. With different CDs.

Its a fresh installation of ubuntu.I have set the sound properties as below.The speaker test only works for the front right and front left speakers.Rest other speakers are muted.
Also tried editing the /etc/pulse/daemon.conf file with uncommenting the audio channels from 2 to 6 and rebooting.Still its not working.
Tried running the following command and again only the front right and left speakers light up.
For the longest time DVD and MP3 playback have haunted me. I fully understand the idea behind open source and not packaging the codecs with the OS. My question is this: I am running openSUSE 11.2 on my lappy. When I try to follow steps online to install all the necessary codecs, plugins and applications. I always seem to run into dependency problems. Can ANYONE out there give a step by step walk through of installing and running all the necessary files, codecs, apps. from a fresh install that has worked for them to get media to work in suse 11.2? For the sake of example and trying to get this process done right lets assume that I have installed suse fresh on my system and want to play DVD's and listen to MP3's.

View 4 Replies View RelatedJust did a fresh install of Karmic, got all necessary decoders installed for video and audio playback...I think.
Problem is I can't forward/search in audio files I am playing. I mean I can only Play, Pause, Stop or "Next-track" a music file. Video files are fine.
I've tried Exaile, Rythmbox and even Totem. It is like the audio files are "half read-only".
If I drag a horizontal scroller in the music player and let it go, it will only jump back to the position where it is actually playing.
Has anyone experienced, this? I am a missing something in gstreamer or something like it?
For X-Mas I got myself a nice little nettop running off an ION motherboard. how to enable HDMI audio output, but got it to work. I've realized that when I'm in XBMC (which is admittedly the only place I watch movies) certain sounds like gunshots will be extremely louder than something like dialog. My friend believes that I should mess around with the channels (to fake the center channel from the left and right) I don't want to threaten Linux, how lightweight I can make it which is critical to an HTPC, but considering XBMC just got a Netflix addon

I had (and can put back) KnoppMyth, but it's getting a bit long in the tooth (I've got R5F27, from 2007). That said I know that my hardware works, I'm just having trouble getting said hardware to work on this fresh install.
I've tryed following this Howto: Installing MythTV on Debian Etch - MythTV which did not work for a lenny install. I wound up with an PnUP error I coudl not sort out. I then installed sid, and followed this Howto: Installing MythTV SVN on Debian Sid - MythTV which failed too. I was unable to get past installing the ivtv drivers, as per this Howto: Howto:Debian - IVTV, the building and installing the modules part. Some errorin the source files I could not sort out. I then I tryed a combination of the two, which is where I'm at right now.
I did a fresh netinstall, upgraded to sid. Installed mysql, nVIDIA drivers and ivtv drivers & firmware from the sid repos. Next I installed MythTV from the debian-multimedia sid repos. Configured the mythbackend, filled the database, and configured the mythfrontend. alas, I can not get any TV out put. I'm pretty sure it's my Hauppauge PVR-150 TV Tuner card that is the issue, but I'm at wits end in trying to sort it out.
I just installed mythtv 0.23.1 on my slack64 13.1 machine using a Hauppauge DVR-2250 TV tuner card. The install went fine (no errors) but I am facing a few glitches. I setup the program using mythtv-setup.
I added the tv tuner in the program's tuner list and scanned the channels using the scan feature. It found something like 38 channels (OTA). So far so good. When I start the application I go to watch TV and I see a white/black screen with a big "1" saying :Playback starting" and then it goes back to the application's menu. here's the output of mythbackend while I was playing around witht he front end

Am attempting to set a static IP address on a server (to be used with Mythtv) and is running mythbuntu 10.04 (apologies if this is the wrong place to post this). I can set a static IP address that is in the range of 192.168.1.x on other machines on the network but when I try with the server it is not able to connect to the network. When using the DHCP rather than manually assigning the address it is assigned an address with the 10.0.0.x range. Why is it doing this I have never have this problem on other ubuntu boxes (and this one prior to a format of the OS).
The router/gateway is 192.168.1.1 I did have a DHCP server on the mythbox before formatting it and I was able to assign a static 192.168 address and retain internet connectivity. But I have re-enabled the DHCP server on my router since formatting the box.
I have installed Ubuntu 10.10 64bit on Acer Revo 3700. After a month of debug sessions and reading the threads in this forum, I still haven't got the audio working on HDMI. Strange thing is that, the HDMI works without any problem on Windows 7 (but alas, the 1080P graphics quality is very poor) The audio output is set to HDMI in the "Sound" settings. The audio is not muted and is set to full volume. View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter overcomming a lot of difficulties, my MythTV (Via Epia 10000EG with Hauppauge PVR 500 card) worked with Mythbuntu 9.04. Last year it crashed and I had no time to spare to rebuild it.
Last couple of weeks I had more time and downloaded and tried to install Mythbuntu 10.10. Everything seems to be installed ok, but I get no picture in MythTV when I select "Watch TV" and no picture when I try to record something. When watching TV, the message "Please wait" appears for appr. 5 secs and then the system returns to the menu.
I installed Mythbuntu 10.10 and am using the provided IVTV drivers.
Dmesg and lspci give no errors, every seems to be in order, IVTV drivers are loaded, initialized and errorfree. Cat /dev/video0 gives me static in MPLAYER. The MythTV backendlog doesn't even give a message, the frontend log just says there is no picture...
There seems to be an error between the back and frontend. I checked the settings in capturecards, TV sources, channel edits, etc,etc, but I can't find it.
I'm running ubuntu 9.10 wit mythtv. My dvb card is a haupauge pvr 1250. When I run the backend, this is the output.

I've been at this for the last hour. I just put a Hauppage WinTV-TVR-1800 into my machine, rebooted and installed MythTV. I set up the card, the video source and the input as well as configured a few random channels. I click WATCH TV in the menu, it goes to a screen saying, "Please Wait....", then it brings me back to the menu. There's no error, is there some sort of log file.

I'm getting very frustrated, having dropped a substantial (for me) amount of money trying to get a DVR setup, and Myth TV has punished me every step of the way.At this point, the extreme frustration is that sound *was* working earlier - not going to the TV via HDMI (Which seems like it should be easy but I've yet to get it to work) but I had speakers working - right up to the instant I installed restricted extra's to run mp3's - the instant I got totem to play sound, I completely lost all sound from myth TV, even playing back digital files it has recorded have no sound now.
alsamixer seems to have been used numerous times to fix these issues, but doesn't actually show as a valid package when I check the repository - I installed the gnome version instead, but nothing I do there seems to have any effect.I'm not entirely sure if I need/should be using the patch from the pc5500 cards into the sound card line in - as near as I can tell, that's only for analog signals, and it *was* running happily without it.
As mentioned - sound is fine from everything else, but even playing a recorded file I have no sound playback (Note: I had not recorded anything I can verify *had* sound before). I've gone through various guides, and I got nuthin'. All the actual cards and hardware have every appearance of working.
Are there any viable alternatives to mythtv? I find the setup to be very cumbersome and the keyboard interface is a poor second to Windows Media Player for a basic PVR system on a desktop computer.
Mythtv seems an overkill for what I require, just to simply watch TV using my DVB-T input and record shows when I'm away from home.

Now I can no longer see video and I can't get back to the settings screen to disable OpenGL. Is there a config file that I can edit to disable OpenGL or someway to revert everything back to default. I tried completely removing the frontend and reinstalling it but that didn't do anything.

I have a Hauppauge hvr 950-q that I had been using with 10.04(64-bit) since it came out with no issues at all(non that i could not fix anyways) had mythtv set up using mythubuntu and all was great. I upgraded to 10.10(64-bit) last night and cannot get sound to work during live tv. If i watch an old recording the sound works. Sound also works everywhere else on my system. Before the upgrade the audio setting in the backend configuration of the tv card was set to /dev/dsp2 this no longer works. if i put it at that(i have to enter it manually) then i have no sound and if i try to change Channel the tv feed crashes.
I have tried /dev/dsp2,1 i even tried /dev/snd/contolC1 wich i got from browsing around in /dev and found this to point to my 950-q all with same results.If i use alsa:default as the audio device in the backend i still get no sound but i am at least able to change channel.everything works in TVTime.i am simply at a loss. My next step was going to be a clean install of 10.10 but i thought i would check here before taking such a drastic step.
I installed mythtv and found channels using mythtv-setup. When i click Watch TV from the myth tv main menu i get a screen that says Please wait... and then it takes me back to the main menu...My tuner is Winfast PVR tv 2000xp Is there any way to get it to work?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am trying to watch tv on my monitor with mythtv. I had my card configured correctly. The first half of the Hauppauge 1600 is for analog tuning, so I have to select ivtv from the dropdown menu. I am receiving an error message stating that it cannot be opened. An hour ago It was fine. When It was working fine and everything was normal, I still could not receive any video on the tv. in mythtv. I receive a red screen. The coax cable is running from the wall into the card. I do not want to run it through my cable box for it seems difficult to configure a remote. I went to schedule direct and downloaded the correct guide for my region(which is the US). What could be the problem? I have searched forums and articles. I really want to use mythtv and cease using Windows Media Center. Does analog tv work in Mythtv. I am using the 0.24 version. My operating system is windows xp and I do not have a graphics card setup for tv-out yet.

I ask this because nuvexport seems to be unsupported these days. The last released version removed support for using transcode to convert the files. This leaves only mencoder and ffmpeg, and these have the following problems:
1) mencoder is much, much too slow. It takes about five times as long to convert a file as transcode ever did.
2) Ubuntu's ffmpeg is crippled, and doesn't work. I realise that there are instructions for installing a version of ffmpeg that works, but as this does not provide any method for creating Debian packages of it, I do not wish to pollute my filesystem with a mish-mash of manually installed software.
Is there any way to convert nuv files with transcode?
I'm trying to set up Ubuntu with Boxee and MythTV as a media centre. I'm currently stuck at displaying a picture on my TV screen. I only have an Intel onboard graphics chip, and so I bought a VGA-to-TV box to convert the signal. This is USB powered and has VGA in, S-Video, Component and VGA out. I have it connected to an external monitor by VGA and to the TV by component cable into a SCART adapter (along with a mini-jack to phono cable from the sound card).
I was hoping that the box would handle the settings for the TV screen, but all I'm seeing are flashing lines of colour, so I'm guessing I have to change the settings. Eventually, I want to get the TV to be widescreen, but I'd like it to work first! I have created an xorg.conf file and put in three extra modes.
- first, an 800x600 VGA to PAL TV converter from [URL]... - second and third, two resolutions generated by the calculator, based on the SwitchResX settings for my MacBook to connect to the same TV. Now I'm sure you want to see a whole load of settings from my machine, but sadly I don't know what settings you'll need to see.
I am working on a Mythtv frontend/backend/desktop and am at a loss. The goal is to use myth to record programming from the free broadcasts (i fired the cable) and the desktop to watch flash video of the shows that aren't on the broadcast networks...like TNT, natgeo or the comedy channel. Software is Mythbuntu 9.04 running nvidia 180 drivers
I imagine the hardware is adequate, it is well above minimum specs that I can find.

I have two problems, well three now if you count the crashing firefox. Myth TV is working fine. There was a conflict with the video card and the tv card. But now when I try to view flash video it is jittery...Firefox has started crashing now and that is a new thing. It will allow me to start a video and the the window will just close with no warning. I tried a local radio stations website and it did the same thing. When I connected to pandora it worked but I could only get the songs to play for around 30 seconds before it would skip to the next one.
I wanted to have the Gnome desktop instead of XFCE but nothing I do seems to change it. With that explanation in mind:
Is this hardware enough for what I want to do?
Is loading Mythtv first then adding gnome the best solution? (if not, I think I can redo the Mythtv setup and conflict resolution again without cracking up).
is there any simple way how to upgrade 0.22+fixes (under Mythbuntu 9.10) to 0.23+fixes? For example any debian package (which I didn't found) to download and simply unpack and install? I'm afraid that if I modify this MythTV, Open Source DVR for 0.23 and use it on 9.10 with 0.22 I'll have problems with directories and so on...

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a PowerPC installation (fully patched) of Ubuntu 10, and I pulled down the MythTV suite on top (since there is no Mythbuntu/PPC that I found). I'm having an issue where after I scan for channels with my tuner using mythtv-setup, I can't set the starting channel number. Its almost as if nothing ever populates into the drop down. This seems to be specific to the combination that I have - Ubuntu 10 + PPC + Myth 0.23. If I use another x86 + Myth .21 and the same Tuner (HDHomeRun), I can set the starting channel fine. A Mac OS 10.4 + Myth .21 also allowed me to set the channel. I've rebuilt this install twice now and it won't allow me to set it. I can see the scanned data in the mythconverg database, so I know its there.
