Apr 8, 2010I'm trying to setup a webcam surveillance system. Zoneminder didn't work for me regardless of how I tried configuring it, so I gave up and have now settled on a more primitive solution. I've currently got 6 cams and looping streamer (webcam screen grabber) I can grab a picture from each camera with about a 1 second interval. The previous picture is overwritten and using javascript to reload the image continuously in a browser I get the desired "movie" effect I'm after. The problem however is that as soon as I start using streamer on more than two cameras at once I run into this little snag:

I've been searching around and it seems I need to increase my shared memory. I've done that (tried many different values and "solutions") but the problem remains the same.
My setup is as follows.
1.php (refreshes updated grab from camera 1 every second in the browser)
2.php (refreshes updated grab from camera 2 every second in the browser)
3.php (refreshes updated grab from camera 3 every second in the browser)
etc
etc.
Is it possible to use something like php exec to execute the command that starts 'streamer' that grabs the image from the specific webcam (/dev/video1 for 1.php and so forth) when 1.php is opened in the browser. Is this even possible, or am I just dreaming?

Aug 27, 2010Running Ubuntu 10.04.Based on this guide, http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=360901 I have WOL working, but to a certain degree. I set my MB bios up, installed the appropriate apps, setup rc.local to start ethtool -s eth0 wol g. I sent a wakeuplan command from another machine and the PC started up.
The only issue is that when it comes out of hibernate from the wakeonlan request eth0 doesn't autoconnect, so if I try to remotely wake it, once it boots into the gui eth0 will remain disconnected until I manually start it.

I'm using firefox and have tried installing adobe flash player through their website (nothing happens, download doesn't start) and through the terminal (error messages), I've also tried installing other flash players from the ubuntu software centre and, while they install fine, they don't seem to actually work. I'm using ubuntu with windows (windows on C drive, ubuntu on D drive)

Aug 12, 2011have the following issues with kde: when I try to login it shows a blackscreen with black cross-shaped pointer for a moment and then again login box appears. When I execute startx from tty kde loading freezes at splashscreen: I see all icons in a row but the last one (KDE button) is blurred.I have debian wheezy/sid, kernel 2.6.37.2, xserver-xorg 7.6+7, xserver-xorg-core 1.10.3-1, nvidia driver version 275.21.Here are logs.

May 22, 2011I have avi, mpeg etc files associated with SMplayer. When I double click a file SMplayer DOES lunch but it never starts the playback. Not even the play key is active, and the seek bar and volume bar are frozen. If I go Open-->File and chose a file, everything works great.

Oct 18, 2010I used Kubuntu with KDE 4.5.1 up to August, when I switched to Debian Squeeze with KDE (currently frozen at 4.4.5). Before migrating, I used rsync (luckbackup) to backup the whole Home directory. Kontact version used on Debian is now 4.4.6. While I could use the import feature successfully to retrieve all my e-mail messages by pointing it to ~/.kde/share/apps/kmail/, I couldn't find a way to do the same with contacts.
I don't have backups of my old ~/.local/share/contacts, the folder simply doesn't exist. However, I have ~/.local/share/akonadi. I never used Akonadi Tray Icon to create a backup. In KAddressBook, I have Personal Contacts, which is empty. While waiting for a solution, I filled Default Address Book with some contacts' e-mail addresses retrieved manually from archived past e-mails.
In ~/.kde/share/apps/kabc I have the following:
1) a folder named lock, containing a text file named _home_lelamal_.kde_share_apps_kabc_std.vcf4g7TNh8g and another called _home_lelamal_.kde_share_apps_kabc_std.vcfXASyTlNE. If opened, they show 1372 kontact, and 1629 korgac respectively.
2) A file named std.vcf of 0B size.
3) 8 files, numbered progressively, named "std.vcf__ std.vcf__7, all of which are also of 0B size.
I tried renaming the old /kabc to /kabc.old (in case it got modified in the process) and used a copy of it as a target for Default Address Book in KDE Resources, whose path was changed to point to it. Nothing changed, when I reopened KaddressBook there were still only the new contacts I manually created.
Akonadi Configuration shows Personal Contacts, and it correctly points to ~/.local/share/contacts/, but if the folder isn't there I'm not sure what it's pointing to. I also have a Default Address Book, and when I click on Modify, instead of showing a path like Personal Contacts did, it shows a blank field. When I click on Open File Dialog, it expects me to point it to a vCard Address Book File.
If I'm back to KAddressBook, and open the Personal Contacts addressbook to import the the only vCard I am aware of (the 0B sized std.vcf file in /kabc) nothing happens, it remains empty.

I dig into access logs and I saw that attacker ips doesn't have valid requests headers, like their browser application info or requested url info.I want to close those connections immediately, and if it's possible block those ips for a time period.Can I do that with Apache and iptables?I searched on the internet but couldn't find useful results. Jan 30, 2010I have difficulty with my webcam and Skype. I can see the other person but she can't see me. From a previous thread: Are you sure your camera isnt working? Supported hardware drivers are in the kernel usually. Test: press alt+f2, type gstreamer-properties go to the video tab and see if your camera is listed as a device. If yes, press the test button. This test was OK. I could see my face on the screen.

TO double check that it just was not skype I opened up Cheese the webcam picture application and it said "no device" found.The only thing I have really changed on my computer since I last skyped were just system updates so something broke in it.

May 4, 2011I did a clean install of Ubuntu 11.04 64bit and the start up time is abnormally slow. If I start up the computer and don't press anything, the start up time is 30 minutes but it usually doesn't start up at all. It just boots into a purple screen, no splash, then it sits there and the computer doesn't have any loading lights flashing.
I had a similar problem with 10.10, but I assumed it would go away when I did a clean install of 11.04.
I can't get a read out of what's going wrong because when I press Esc it doesn't display anything, though weirdly it can sometimes get the start up process moving. I have also found that pressing enter really fast can sometimes help and something that seems completely oxymoronic, if I press the power button while it's starting up that can make it work, but nothing works every time.

Apr 26, 2009My webcam worked with every application in Linux Mint6. I just upgraded to Ubuntu 8.04 and find that the input from the webcam looks like a green TV without horizontal lock in Camorama and Skype. However it works perfectly with Cheese.
