View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm wondering if anyone distributes mplayer, mencoder, and ffmpeg, up-to-date builds of each and their associated dependencies (x264, faac, xvid, etc).I had to compile all that stuff myself and fought with it, and finally got it working.
If no one distributes latest builds, then I was thinking of going further with what I've done to help others: virtualbox lenny and automated compiles of all packages and putting up the builds, with latest revisions of mplayer and ffmpeg from their source code repos. Using LD_LIBRARY_PATH to isolate the build so any modern linux can run the produced binaries, with only glibc as a dependency.
I want to try encoding some videos with Dirac. I was told on another site that I have to build mencoder with Schroedinger support if I want to do this with OGMRip. I have installed the libschroedinger package installed. How do I buld it with mencoder?

View 8 Replies View RelatedA recent update to ffmpeg, in which I've learned was an upgrade to the restricted ffmpeg as opposed to the unrestricted default one that is in the official repos, has now made it unable for me to use mplayer or Devede. Reading up about this, especially from here: [URL].. I have learned it's a frequent problem when installing the restricted ffmpeg. Basically what Devede says at startup is:

Devede needs them to work. If you want to use Devede, you must install all of them. Using the terminal to open mplayer (or mencoder), I get this error: mplayer: relocation error: mplayer: symbol codec_wav_tags, version LIBAVFORMAT_52 not defined in file libavformat.so.52 with link time reference From my research, seems as though the problem lies in libavformat52 not being installed (or removed) and libavformat-extra-52 is installed, which is the same thing, but because it's the restricted version, it is called something different. Anybody know if that is correct?
Also, checking up, libavformat-unstripped-52 isn't installed but available, so should I install that to replace the missing libavformat52, as when I sudo aptitude install libavformat52, it says it conflicts with libavformat-extra-52?
I installed libavformat-unstripped-52, which didn't conflict with the already installed libavformat-extra-52, just to see if it would basically just replace the missing libavformat52, which conflicted with libavformat-extra-52 and couldn't be installed safely, but after I did, nothing changed. I still get the same error with opening Devede and mplayer (or mencoder) in the terminal.
I am using mplayer with Umplayer/Smplayer as graphic front ends. I have enabled DVD menus by checking the box in Preference > Drives in Umplayer(also tried Smplayer) but there is still no menu when I stick a DVD in the dvd drive, on the other hand the menus show up if I use VLC to play the DVD so it is not the dvd's problem.
I have already installed libdvdnav4.
1) Does Karmic mplayer have VDPAU support out of the box? If not, why doesn't it?
2) Does LUCID mplayer have VDPAU support "..."?
3) If Lucid doesn't, can I use the Karmic VDPAU PPA for Lucid, or much I compile mplayer myself?
4) Point me to a place with instructions on compiling mplayer with VDPAU support. If you don't know, I'll just google it.
I'm currently using Debian Testing with Debian Multimedia Sid repos. The current Mplayer (3:1.0~rc4+svn20110308-0.0) seems to be broken - I can't encode AAC to AC3 on-the-fly anymore. I'd like to compile the latest snapshot or SVN version, but what is the easiest way to compile it with the same options as the one in debian-multimedia.org?

I was disappointed to discover that in 10.04 dvdnav support was disabled in mplayer. I rely on it for my mythtv front end box to be able to play DVDs. According to a bug it was disabled because of an upstream email chain where dvdnav was considered 'experimental' and 'not ready for production use'. Funny as it worked fine for me.

The sysytem I use is Debian Squeeze. what's wrong but jackd2 from debian official repositories does not work with alsa (I have alsa-base, alsa-tools, libaudio-dev, libaudiofile-dev and libasound2-dev installed). Now I downloaded fresh jackd2 source from sourceforge and when I try to "./waf -configure" it it says that there is no alsa package or it's too old in the system and configures itself without alsa support.

When I try mplayer with different distros, I get different results. Right now I have Kubuntu Karmic on the hard drive, but most of the time I'm running Kiara, which is a rebuild of Slax, from a live CD. With Slax, and (I believe) also with Slackware, Mplayer doesn't seem to support playing flv (flash video), or, strange to say, ogg. Now, with Karmic, I can't get full-screen video, though I can get that with most Debian-based distros, including the earlier kubuntu jaunty. Any way of closing up these gaps?

I've built some experimental mplayer packages for Fedora 11 and Rawhide (x86-32 and x86-64 arches) with shiny new features. Aside from being very recent snapshots, one of them includes support for hardware video playback acceleration via VDPAU and VAAPI, and the other includes support for multi-threaded playback (so you can split the decoding load across multiple cores).
The playback acceleration can definitely be used on NVIDIA adapters (from the GeForce 8xxx series onwards) using the proprietary driver (not, unfortunately, nouveau). Also on Intel Poulsbo (GMA 500) adapters, using my packaged version of the native driver for that chipset (link is in the blog post). VDPAU acceleration is also allegedly possible on S3 Chrome 530 GT and S3 Chrome 540 GTX adapters using S3�s own driver, but I haven't had the chance to test that. Multi-threaded playback can be done on any system, but only really makes sense on those with multiple processors (cores).

I'm trying to convert a video in .ogm format to .avi format so I can stream it to my PS3 via uShare. I'm using Mencoder and the following command to do it (to transcode the audio from vorbis to mp3 and the video from mpeg4 to xvid):

As nobody has a xvid or vlc player on the droid (yet.. coders are doing alot for Android ya know) I will have to convert the video down and change the format.. I'm doing a little python app for encoding .avi from dvds. I know there are a few really good applications out there that do the same thing but I wanted something simple with less faff. The application has 3 settings: Fast, Medium, and Slow. These are for the varying quality rips. For file format I was thinking either lavc or Xvid.
So my first question is, which is better? I really don't know anything about it and I haven't found a decent site that compares them. And secondly what are the best settings for a DVD rip for a Fast Rip, a 'Best of Both' Rip, and a Best Quality Rip? If I've missed any factors in this, please let me know, I'm new to the DVD ripping game. I have no intentions of distributing the movies, they are for my own uses.
