Ubuntu Multimedia :: 10.10 - Capturing DV Video Through FireWire
Apr 8, 2011
I want to capture DV-video through IEE1394 (FireWire) with Kino and Ubuntu 10.10. Seems I can't capture... When I plug in the camera there is no hot plug message (if there should be one? I've read it should...). The DV-out on the camera is enabled There is no option to enable/disable the port in my BIOS.
Some information:
Code:
a~# lspci | grep 1394
07:09.0 FireWire (IEEE 1394): Ricoh Co Ltd R5C832 IEEE 1394 Controller (rev 05)
Hope there are some command to check?
I've been trying for a while now to capture videos with my webcam of my samsung n110 netbook, I am running ubuntu 10.4 and cheese 2.30.1. I can take pictures fine, with effects and everything but when I press "start recording" the webcam seems to turn off or all I see is a black image, then when I press stop recording the camera picture comes back on and then the program freezes. I've tried turning down the resolution, I've tried all the possibilities in gstreamer-properties but nothing helped so far running from terminal didn't give me a clue on what the problem might be either. I would like cheese to work to have photo and video in one program but if someone has a good program to capture video I am willing to try it out.
I am having problems with ffmpeg. My goal is to capture a video stream from my webcam and feed that into a webcam-capturing program. But to get that to work, I will need ffmpeg to work. I need the following command to work, but I get an error:
Code: $ ffmpeg -b 100K -an -f video4linux2 -s 320x240 -r 10 -i $device -b 100K -f image2pipe -vcodec mjpeg - | perl -pi -e 's/\xFF\xD8/KIRSLESEP\xFF\xD8/ig' ffmpeg: relocation error: /usr/lib/libavfilter.so.2: symbol avformat_find_stream_info, version LIBAVFORMAT_53 not defined in file libavformat.so.53 with link time reference
Since I upgraded to 10.04 my Webcam (a logitech Quickcam Pro 4000) won't capture video.Ubuntu see it is there, but aMSN, Google Talk, Skype, and Cheese all give me nothing.
I'm just wondering if there is a video capturing program that can, at the least record what is on my computer screen (including what is on Wine) and at the most capture what is on my webcam as well.
I'm getting some jitter when capturing via RCA or S-Video from an em28xx device. Input type is PAL, other than that I haven't fiddled with mplayer or vlc's options (vlc only sees the RCA input, mplayer sees both)
I want to import raw High Def video into my computer so I can edit it on Cinelerra. Ubuntu doesn't allow you to use the ieee 1394 cable by default and everything I've tried to make it work, hasn't!!I don't want to go back to windows, pay a ton of money for some video editing software when there is an excellent video editing program already on my computer.]
then luvcview should capture the video to the .avi file. However, when I try it, no output file is created. Grabbing a raw stream or raw frames works fine, but not the creation of AVI files. Am I missing something?
I've tried to look up different programs for this but can't find anything. I'd like to be able to open my recorder on Myspace for instance and capture any sound playing through my speakers. I used to have a little program for this, but its windows based and won't seem to install correctly in Wine.
I have a unlisted remote which I can't find a lircd.conf for. Have tried irrecord with a mceusb receiver and have had no success. I am running maverick on a fresh install. LIRC is install and functions correctly for MCE remote and sending dishnetwork ir codes. I have found the hex codes for it but have no idea what to do with them even if there is anything to do with them. My question is this, is there any other way to capture the remote codes other than irrecord? Is there a way to manually build the codes?
I bought a USB to firewire cable to use with a DV camera, but I don't know what to do now. Do I need to enable firewire drivers, or is there something else I should do? I know I should read the manual.
I have a Panasonic DVCPRO HD camera with a Firewire output. I'd like to take the video footage off of the camera and put it into my Ubuntu (Studio, 10.04) machine. Unfortunately, neither my Ubuntu machine nor the camera seem to recognize a connection with each other.
I've only used this camera like this with Mac OSX, in which I press a button a couple folders pop up with everything in them which I can then digitize in Final Cut Pro. I'd prefer being able to use my Ubuntu setup with Open Source Software to view and edit this footage.
how to get ubuntu and this camera to talk to each other and play nice?
I'm trying to view the output of a dv firewire capture device (advc-100) fullscreen through vlc. I've read of people being able to do this but a detailed explanation of how eludes me.
I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 and VLC 1.1.4
The error message I'm given after trying to open through 'media>open capture device>play' is;
Quote:
Your input can't be opened: VLC is unable to open the MRL 'v4l2:///dev/ffc1/'. Check the log for details.
(and I can't find the log)
I'm not even sure if I've got the device name right so I ran lspci from the command line which gave the following output (and I still can't work out what it is);
I'm using FFADO on JACK in order to use my firewire device (M-Audio Profire 610) and I seem to have the opposite issue as others who have similar problems. Everything starts up fine, and I can record audio into Ardour using my inputs, but I can't get any output from any of my 8 line outs.
I've checked the connections using QjackCtl, and I tried to route audio from another program (Audacious) but I can't seem to pull audio out of the device (or the computer won't send my device audio?).
I had originally planned on buying a USB 2.0 audio interface to use with my first home recording studio, but it sounds like Linux support is pretty horrible for these devices. On the other hand, the FFADO project seems to be very promising, so now I'm looking at getting a firewire interface. The only problem is that all I have on my laptop (sony vaio VGN-N365E) is a little 4-pin firewire port. If I'm not mistaken, those don't provide any power. Will this work with any interfaces (maybe one that has it's own external power adapter)? Or is there an adapter I can get to convert it to a full firewire port and add power?
I'm a complete Linux newbie - only installed it yesterday, and have spent hours trying to get my M-Audio Firewire Solo sound card to work. I can hear nothing at all. I know nothing of Linux, but am willing to learn. While I learn though, it would be nice to listen to a little Hall & Oates. I've got to the stage where the error messages I'm receiving don't bring up any results on Google. Here's what things look like (watch out, big pic):
Those sample rate errors appear in the terminal when I start ffado-mixer. I'm running JACK with everything set as I think it's supposed to be, except that 'Realtime' is unchecked. If I start JACK running with 'Realtime' checked, it tries to launch and fails, saying "JACK is running in realtime mode, but you are not allowed to use realtime scheduling. After applying these changes, please re-login in order for them to take effect". I don't know what more it wants me to do - i've already added
to /etc/security/limits.conf, and selected the 2.6.31-11-rt kernel on GRUB bootup. I'm a member of 'audio' and 'disk' groups like'm supposed to be. Have I not got the connections right in JACK? Have I got some sample rate settings wrong somewhere?I'm not even bothered about low latency with the realtime kernel right now, I just want to hear some sound
I want to watch a certain video on [url]...., but I get an error message instead. Some videos can be played, so I'm thinking it's a form of restriction, but I can't be sure.I tried using a few proxies, but on some the error message persists and on others the video doesn't load. I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 and Firefox 3.5.8.
I have two seperated video clips, that captured same event from two cameras. i would like to create one clip, that will show one on the left side, the second on the right side, and play together.
When I play large HD videos in mplayer, the video and sound frequently get out of sync, and the video plays a little strangely (occasionally speeding up and occasionally slowing down).
I think it's because mplayer is only running on a single core. As I've got a quad-core processor, it seems inefficient. I've seen that there is theoretically a way to get mplayer to work with multicore setups, but it requires compiling with different options. That'd take me a little while to work through.
Ideally there would be a pre-compiled version in the software centre, or a player which has support built in (again, ideally in the software centre). Is there such a thing available?
I have a video file in which the audio runs faster than the video, so they quickly go out of sync. The way to fix it would be to separate the audio and video streams, speed up the video (the audio is FINE, it's the video that's wrong), and then recombining them. What is the easiest way for doing that?
video playback is like I have applied a blueish sepia filter over it. And this is just the playback from totem player or mplayer, and not the playback from ..... (and generally online streaming) - this works just fine. this messy video playback also appears when I use cheese to capture video with my webcam. Note that the preview picture of the video file on nautilus has the natural colours it should have.
at first when I installed the os this particular problem didn't exist, but it came up the time I decided to follow the "comprehensive multimedia guide". So now I have all the pros of following the guide, but this is a major con...
this happens with both VLC and Totem, when in either of those programs playing a video, if I click on one of the top menus, say View in Totem, the video stays on top of the drop down options. In order to see the options I have to hover over them with the mouse at which point they become momentarily visible. I read a post somewhere where someone had a similar problem and it was solved by reinstalling Compiz, but I've tried uninstalling it entirely, reinstalling it, etc. and none of it works. It doesn't happen with flash videos in firefox, it does happen with visualisations in Totem, and it only started happening since I upgraded to 11.04.
the movie i downloaded plays for only 19 sec and stops saying you will be redirected to microsoft download page. the file is 700 Mb. i installed w32 codecs after searching through many threads but still my vlc doesnt play the file.
I'm using 9.10 on acer aspire one (not the netbook remix).im using the default messanger client empathy.everything else works fine but when i try to video chat the video chat begins but if the other person even moves a litte or even nods his head then the video becomes so choppy that u cant see anything and then after 5 min comes back to normal for a second or two.i have all the latest updates and gstreamer0.10-ugly-multiverse which is required for video chat b/w empathy and gtalk.
My system: Pentium 4 3.6 GHz, 3 Gb DDR ram, GeForce 210 video card, Ubuntu 10.04.
I have previously used Cinelerra-cv (on Karmic) and recently Openshot (on Lucid) with not much trouble. I have been sampling other video editors (Kdenlive, avidemux, kino etc). Now I have my video card crashing whichever I use, mainly when trying to load clips. I have disabled Compiz, uninstalled all video editors and then reinstalled one at a time. I still get early video crashes whichever I try.
I am setting up a MythTV environment to switch from Windows based MediaPortal (with a high number of disturbing bugs). Yet, I have three difficulties, which I want to discuss with you. They are:
- No audio via HDMI see [URL] - Video resolution seems to change during video playback - Channels cannot be found via DVB-S [URL]
As you can see, I have created three posts to keep discussions focused.
Alltogether I have the following setup:
- AMD 5050e CPU - 8 GByte RAM - Biostar TA890GXE - Samsung LE40M86BD, connected via HDMI (and only HDMI) - Mythbuntu 10.10 with proprietary drivers installed - Technisat Skystar HD2 DVB-S card (two times)
Now, here is the problem:
Whenever I playback any video material using e.g. VLC, the screen resolution changes. This also applies when playback the video in a window and not fullscreen. The problem is that whenever the screen resolution changes, short time later the TV set blanks screen and show the TV set specific information "unsupported video mode".
How can I enforce to stay in the configured video mode?
Phenom 9500+ quad core, 3GB RAM, Nvidia 8800GT: 260.19.36 driver.Installed the latest Boxee for Linux. Got my remote setup. Everything works except when I open a video it opens in a tiny box in the upper left hand corner of my monitor. Is there any way to get Boxee videos to play full-screen?
Just installed Ubuntu 10.10 on an old Dell Dimension 8400 with an ATI RV370 Radeon X300 video card and 512MB of Ram. The video seems to go very fast and skips. I followed the Comprehensive Multimedia & Video Howto but still have the same issue. I have also read many posts but I have trouble understanding some of the responses. Could it be the low amount of RAM?
