started out with Ubuntu 10.10, and loved the screen magnification system, windows key / mouse wheel.is this feature avil in 11.04, and how do I turn it on and set it up to work like 10.10?

The wheel on my PS2 wheel mouse does not work. When I use the USB port using an adapter, it works fine. The wheel works with Puppy Linux, so I know the hardware is fine.

I'm new to ubuntu, I had some experience before with mandriva.Most things work properly but there is a strange problem with the mouse (USB), and more precisely with that little wheel which stands between the two buttons. Turning it when the pointer is on some web page (using firefox) I expect the page to scroll. So I turn the wheel in one direction and the page scroll up. Good!I tried with other programs (konqueror, kmail)... and still the same happens, I can only scroll to the top.

Also, make sure that it only changes desktops when the mouse is over an empty desktop because I got it working once but the mouse wheel would change desktops all the time, even when I was trying to scroll through a webpage or document.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI just installed Ubuntu for the first time in a couple of years, and I'm having a problem with my mouse wheel scrolling about a half a page with every click of the mouse wheel. I never had that trouble in the past.In Firefox, I changed the correct settings inmousewheel.withnokey so that it should only scroll one line and I set the option to use the system settings to false. It still scrolls about a half a page at a time.
It's not just Firefox, it's everything, including LibreOffice, and everything else that uses a scroll wheel. I have installed Xubuntu-Desktop and also Kubuntu-Desktop. I noticed in Unity and Xfce, there are no settings for how many lines the mouse wheel scrolls. In KDE, there actually is a setting. I set it to one line, and it didn't change anything. I opened up a document in LibreOffice, and it still scrolls almost a whole page with one click of the wheel. Firefox still scrolls about a half a page.
I just finished installing 10.04. When I use the mouse wheel to scroll up, Firefox loads previous pages in my history. I had the same problem in 9.10. I've searched through the net looking for solutions. Most solutions talk about adjusting mousewheel.withnokey options. However, everything I try doesn't stop it from loading previous pages when using the mouse wheel to scroll up. My current settings are as follows:
mousewheel.withnokey.action = 0
mousewheel.withnokey.numlines = 6
mousewheel.withnokey.sysnumlines = true
Using the mouse wheel to scroll down works fine. It's only when scrolling up. Has anyone else experienced this problem. I'm using a Microsoft Optical Intellimouse
when im scrolling webpages via scroll wheel the pages MOST of the time will move the direction they're supposed to
however occasionally it will blip and in the middle of a downward scroll it will abruptly scroll upward one or two clicks

ive checked the forums and everyone has problems w the 6th and 7th buttons ... and not the scroll wheel
oh and there are specific drivers on the razer website .. but are those safe to use on ubuntu?

Now, I have moved my Microsoft PS/2 scroll wheel mouse from my previous computer to the new machine, but the scroll wheel does not work. How do I make it work?
I had hoped that Ubuntu would detect my different (new) hardware and configure it for me, but it did not. Googling leads me to xinput, but I can't figure out what to do with that and it indicates it is for 'on the fly' configuration. I want it to be permanently configured. Is there some way to invoke the installation tool again to reinstall the mouse?
i was wondering if there's an easier way to scroll my screens without having to press 3 keys (ctrl alt -> or <-)i would rather do it with alt+ mouse scroll

View 1 Replies View RelatedEverything worked fine with Jaunty 9.04, but I haven't had any luck getting the "cube" to rotate using the mouse wheel since I upgraded to Karmic 9.10. The other ways to rotate the cube still work with karmic. Note that I upgraded from jaunty to karmic...not a clean install. Viewport switcher and rotate cube are both enabled.

In "xev" I can see that scrolling does not produce any events.

I can't seem to find a "package manager update history" so I can see what got updated when I did that just today (changes can't be more than 24h old).I tried rebooting/cold boot just in case.I check xorg.cfg, but it hasn't changed since march of 2008, so I figure nothing overrode the config.

The mouse scroll wheel speed/line skipping is way too fast. It skips half the page in one scroll! Is there a menu (like Windows) that lets you customize this?
In technical terms, it's a Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 3500 with BlueTrack technology.
Upgraded to 10.04, fresh install. Now I can't change to a new song or go back to the previous one by using the mouse wheel over the rhythmbox icon in the task bar like I could in the previous release. I couldn't find an option for it in the plugins or preferences neither. Is there a way to get this back?

I've run sax2 and the mouse moduledoesn't even appear but my Wacom tablet settings do. Very perplexing to say the least.

I have searched for a solution to this problem but no luck. I am running FC 11 and out-of-the-box gnome. At first the screensaver worked normally, shutting off the screen after 5 mins. Now it does not do so. I found the following command line suggestion in the forums, and it looks like it may point to a problem -- the screensaver is inactive, but how to make it active? I may be misunderstanding the term inactive, of course. Logically, the screensaver would have to be inactive if I am typing a command.

But the query returns the same thing as before.
The only thing I can think of that might be an issue is that using the "appearances" background facility I added a couple dozen pictures that I thought I might use as screen background. Not long after that I discovered that my screen did not go black after 5 mins as expected. Not sure this correlation has any causal meaning, however. I then tried various things, finally returning to the plain (blue) default. That seemed to fix it for a short while, then after a couple of days, the bad or non-behavior returned -- the screensaver does not work.
(update -- I removed all the extra background pics and it makes no difference.)
My system runs all the time, but I don't want the screen to be on all the time.
How do i make VLC jump forward or back using the mouse wheel regardless of where i have the mouse cursor in the window? I went to preferences and changed the hotkey to 'short forward jump' to mouse wheel forward, but nothing seems to happen when i press the forward button.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to use my Microsoft Optical Wheel Mouse (it has left button, right button and the wheel button) in Ubuntu 9.04.I would like to use the wheel button to perform the same task as backspace key in firefox browser and file browser. I have hunted around the net for the past two weeks and found many articles on imwheel and editing x11config files but they all are for 5 of 7 button mice. I have installed and used imwheel -c which tells me that it is "wheel: Left Button 6". However as a total beginner with Linux I am not sure what to do from here. I am hoping that someone would be kind enough to give me a reasonably detailed explanation of what I need to do. If someone could spend some time to list what files I need to edit and what I need to insert into them for this mouse I would be grateful.

This mouse has no scroll wheel, instead it has two buttons one to scroll up and another to scroll down.
Instead of the usual scrolling, the buttons are acting as if I had clicked the back or forward buttons on the browser.
How can I map the buttons to function as intended?
I'm installed 64-bit openSUSE 11.4 with GNOME. I have a DELL mouse with middle wheel. How do I configure the lines the wheel scrolls? By default it is about 1-2 lines. I need more.
I searched many places. Seems only KDE supports this settings. I also digged up VertScrollDelta in xorg.conf, but the latter is not used currently (not exists in /etc/X11/).
