I have an HP with an all-in-one clickpad that does not work properly with ubuntu since it's mostly software based. I have tried many workarounds to fix this problem with little success. One of those workarounds got rid of the touchpad tab in the mouse setting window. Can I get this back to disable tap-to-click and enable edge scrolling?
View 2 RepliesI always accidentally release right mouse button in any right click menu, so it automatically selects one of highlighted item in this menu. It's mostly the first item, so as example, if I am watching ..... video, and I right click somewhere in the page background, then release the mouse, it makes my browser go BACK one page, because BACK is first item in right click menu in chrome...
Also I would like it to make it unable to right click in right click menu to press items in the menu... In other words, right click in right click menu has the same behavior like left click, but I want to disable it. I want it just like in MS windows, where when you click with right click in right click menu it does nothing. I have so many accidents with this right click menu.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI updated system few days back. and Ka-boom! Suddenly my all desktop effects gone. My theme effects of Mac from the theme Macubuntu 10.10 were gone too. I removed Macubuntu and tried to go into visual effects tab in Appearance Preferences, but it says "Mutter is running, Can't switch to other effects." Now, may this mutter is coming in natty narwhal & new, but seriously it's 2D effects aren't smooth enough.. Also I just can't use Alt+Tab which I'm habitual of.
My question is: How to disable this mutter and re-enable my Compiz-Fusion? I tried to kill mutter process from the daemons and start a compiz.. It didn't work.. Instead, I had to reboot my machine everytime I did that. When I remove mutter from sudo apt-get remove mutter.My desktop stays blank after a reboot and I can't access anything.. Thanks to EasyStroke that I'd given stokes to open a new terminal.
how do I enable or disable the global menu bar?
I used it for a while and got used to it. Then I pressed something (I don't know what) and the global menu bar disappeared and the menu now locally appearing in all windows.
First off late me state that i know nothing about ubuntu and i am try to help someone(my father) who knows even less lol. Last night the 13yr old little girl got on his computer and was playing around now the Task/Menu bar is gone and he doesnt know how to get it back.... or do anything else without it. ive told him that this is probably just a simple setting but im not there to play with his computer to figure ubuntu out for him thus im forced to seek wisdom here. I need idoit lvl instructions on how to reenable this bar can anyone help?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI hesitated on the title, generally can solve problems w/o this (20+ year *nix/linux experience).
hardware Dell 1505, ATI X1400 (nVidia went south replaced with ATI, used at this stage of life for this laptop).Acer x221w external monitor.
Recently upgraded to 10.04 (should have waited, but hadn't upgraded in a long time).
No real fixes found for the ati X1400 in searches (fixed it on 9.04 and 9.10).
So to troubleshoot, wanted to go to console mode, and start X manually and hopefully debug the config to get the thing working.
So, I get ready to take it down off of X only to find, there are no more consoles???
To work this out and to even come to an end result, when X does not work, you need a console to debug it. There is code in /etc/init.d/console-screen.sh for starting consoles...
Yet they do not start, notices some comments about doing it 'clever' in there, all I can say is 'clever' is more risky than workable, it worked before, why change it? It did not make it better, it made it harder, so now, to get it to work, I have to go debug someone else's 'clever' code? BTW, there are 'getty' running - but still no console.
Not so clever... We need a fix to get (at least at this level), the consoles running, so, where are you 'clever coder', tell us how to turn them back on.
Why in /etc/init/tty*.conf do they not start?
I really find it hard to say anything critical to something that is free, in general, I will not even comment, but just go ahead and find the fix myself, But to even address this, we (IMO) need pretty much a fix for the broken console access, before we can even address X in certain configurations.
A long time user of RH, even back to Yygdrasil, Soft Landing days, I was VERY impressed with ubuntu over the others for a desktop (got it on the Dell), but now, at 10.04, it has become cumbersome and broken.
It is a good product, but we need to get it back to where it is not so bleeding edge and broken.
After I adjust my slackware and rebooted I saw a strange "rectangle" on my desktop. Please, look at the screenshots below and tell me how I should solve this problem.
I can't move it. Right-click menu on a rectangle coincides with a right-click on desktop. It does not prevent, but very annoying.
I'm using rxvt-unicode version 9.06 at Ubuntu 9.10. I was used to aterm, where you can use SHIFT + up/down arrow to scroll the printed output with a line up or down. You can also use SHIFT + pgup/pgdown to scroll one screen up or down.In urxvt I can use the pgup/pgdown combination as well, but can't use the up/down arrow combination. It is very useful to be able to scroll by single lines. Do you have any idea how to enable the up/down arrow scrolling?

I had been trying to get my iPod Shuffle working without using iTunes... without success and had installed and then uninstalled GTKpod, Hipo, Floola and at the end of (frustrating) messing around with all that, grub wouldn't let me use my last resort, booting to windoze. Problem is that I cant click on dropbox, caffeine, battery indicator, wlan or sound indicator until I first click on messages menu and slide over to appindicator that I need. When screenlets appindicator is not present there is no problem. Its the same when I had Jupiter installed.

Within 10 minutes of installation, I had begun to look around to change the window 'theme' settings. I was scrolling through the themes and BOOM the system blanks out and forces me back to the login. At first I was thinking it was no big deal, but as it turns out, it will not let me back it.Basically, I use my credentials, it appears to login, it goes to a black screen with the cursor at the top left and then sends me back to login like nothing happened.

I have tried simply changing the driver entry to "synaptics," however when I run SHMconfig it says the driver hasn't been loaded.

If i do either it appears too the computer as though I unplugged it even though it's still connected to the computer. Is there a way to bring back unmount so that it will still appear under places?
