Ubuntu :: Low Graphic Performance Of MainWin Applications In 11.04
May 13, 2011
I use Mentor HyperLynx under Natty 11.04 x64. This is a MainWin application and both under Unity and Classic desktop it takes very long to re-draw graphics (menus etc.) Same applies to Mentor DxDesigner - it takes very long to start it up and then to react on user input. Does anyone have similar problems with this or other MainWin application?
So I finally got ubuntu..I wanted to play team fortress 2.Runs great in wine etc.But 1 problem. It keeps saying my graphic card is outdated.I cant see anything. So I downloaded the driver from nvidia website.Followed some instructions. But it says cannot open binary file or something. Is there any other way to update graphic drivers.Cause I realy still want to play some windows games.Mount&blade, Atlantica online, team fortress 2 etc
i justy got me a dedi box and there is no graphic driver installed on it, or it dont work :/ VGA compatible controller: S3 Inc. VT8375 [ProSavage8 KM266/KL266] but wen i try installing enemy territory it comes back with error on graphic card
I have an ubuntu PC with 512 MB ram and an 3d graphic card that can normally support Guild Wars on windows xp. I installed the game with Wine an the game opens, I can see my character menu but the problem is none of the 3D graphic parts works, I just see a black screen.I even installed directX.
I just wanted to know if having my laptop set to ondemand, will this affect performance in any way? I realize it increases the clock speed to performance when the CPU is under load, but does the time it take to go from ondemand to performance affect speed? Will there be any noticeable difference between the two setups? I have a dual core intel at 2.2GHz when in performance. When ondemand is set with no load it downclocks to 800Mhz.
In Fedora 10, I cannot get to the installer because it shows these messed up strips graphics (its not due to my graphic card, my graphic card is supported 7600gt) in non-quiet install it shows logical errors and i/o errors.
I haven't used Ubuntu for a while, and just reinstalled it. I have one major dislike about the new version, There are several applications I click on and it takes me to the installer. How do I remove those types of applications or just install them all?
I feel shy asking this question but, 90% of the applications I install in Ubuntu (last release), do not show up later on in the applications menu, so I cant run them. I know it seems silly, but I can't find the way to handle this inconvenience. Is there a place (like Start> All programs in Windows), were I could find and run all the programs I install?
I was wondering if there was any way to remove icons from the installed applications menu?I recently attempted to install GOG.com's Zork Anthology using Wine and when I de-installed, the icons for those files were still listed in installed applications. Is there anyway to delete them manually?
I'm setting up a large number of virtual machines, each with a basic set of about 30 applications. Obviously, I don't want to do everything manually so I'm looking for ways to automate this process. Multiple distributions (Ubuntu, Red Hat Ent., FreeBSD, CentOS, etc.) will be used, meaning I will have a few Ubuntu installs with the basic set of 30 applications, and multiple Red Hat installs with the same set, etc. So, I'm looking for advice on automating as much of this as I can, even if it means a new form of automation for each distro.
Is there a programmatic way to get the list of all installed applications on Linux.
Also, how can we get the application activities in Linux OS like running applications name, time of day when they started, duration till the applications were running on system, application version etc.
Is there a way to do this in C/C++.
I am building an app that runs like a daemon and fetches the applications status and sends it to the network admin for him to monitor the application usage pattern on the user computers in the network.
I have a windows app installed under wine. It works fine. However, it has the ability to launch openoffice to do further functions. Obviously I have openoffice installed under linux, but the wine app cannot see it. How can I make the wine app see across the emulation layer into linux to see the app it needs? Dont tell me I need to install openoffice under wine as well to get it to work!
I am having an annoying problem with ubuntu 10.04. with SSH, I get connected to a linux server. The command line works well. But I can NOT get a graphic interface from it. For example:
I would like to make 2 vertical lines and two horizontial lines around this program. I use gcc as compiler.

aftar install bluez package , ubuntu boot with text mode and can't boot with graphic mode and have not graphic environment.run command following, but no fix problem:dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorgCode:startxX/etc/init.d/gdm startaptitude reinstall xubuntu-desktop
I'm an absolute beginner and I've recently upgraded to 10.04 Lucid on a Dell laptop. Upon booting I get only a terminal window instead of the usual ubuntu graphic interface.
I cannot start my ubuntu 9.10 from graphic interface now. The system can boot into the graphic interface, but will stop response at the point just before the login window appears. I've triyed reinstalling the gdm, and rerun gdm from the character tty, but it did not work.
how KDE graphic details look much more detailed and nicer than GNOME? Or this is me? And will this difference remain when GNOME will change to GNOME 3 and Ubuntu will start to use Wayland and UNE? I am not any kind of programmer/designer/eveloper,
I installed ubuntu but when I first tried to login with my correct passwords it goes in a loop and prompt me to log in again. I went to recovery mode and selected safe mode then I was able to log in without any further prompts. As a result of what happened, I unlocked the login screen and changed the setup to allow me to log in automatically and in safe mode only. I am now stuck to login in safe mode only. I tried to unlock the login screen to change to default but no chance. If there is no graphic card in the PC would that have an effect on memory or login?
Code: 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV280 [Radeon 9200 PRO] (rev 01) 01:00.1 Display controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV280 [Radeon 9200 PRO] (Secondary) (rev 01) 02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller (rev 03) 04:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Mobility Radeon HD 3600 Series Initially I had just teh HD 3600 in the PC, using the "AMDccle" drivers and configuration running two monitors.
I then added an old RV280 PCI card to allow a third monitor. When the PC powers on the bios output is on the RV280, once linux starts the RV280 monitor goes to the ubuntu desktop colour, the two monitors on the HD3600 get a signal (power up) and display the logon screen.
When I log on the two HD3600 screens become my desktop. If I ctrl alt f1 etc. the terminal screen comes up on the RV280 and the two HD3600 screens go blank. This suggests that all 3 monitors/ 2 graphics cards are all working ok, and ubuntu is happy with them. My problem now is to make the RV280 accessable via X/gnome at the same time as the HD3600. It would be nice to have it as a 3rd monitor on a very wide desktop, but I'd settle for it being its own little window running various tasks/programs such as mail/firefox.
I am using ubuntu 11.04 on dell insprion 1545. But I am facing a problem that when I start laptop a message shows on the black screen that says
Ubuntu is running in low graphic mode. Your screen, graphic card and input device setting could not be detected correctly, you will need to configure these yourself
I have read that there is a file Xorg.conf that contain the graphics card information. I have also use the command
I have recently installed 9.10 on my pc. All seems ok except there is a lot of noise coming from the tower now. It sounds like one of those old dial up modems that computers used to have. It starts right after the ubuntu starts. On the first install I had vertical lines on the screen that would become more broken the busier th computer was.So I installed again selecting to use lower graphics mode before installation. The lines have gone but I can't use avant window navigator as I get an error message saying the screen hasn't been composited. It invites me to use compiz to do this but a really can't see how. Also it won't let me select visual effects in appearance preferences. The most annoying thing is the noise like an old modem is constantly trying to connect to the web.
i have a asus lcd wide display and when i am installing ubuntu in that it is showing me all 6 text terminal but no graphic terminal when i am switching to graphic terminal it is showing me out of range and i also changed the monitor resolution to least i.e 800*640 and also to max but still it is showing me out of range although if i try to install it in vmware i am getting the display very clearly and and also can change the resolution in vmware
i am trying to find the xorg.conf file in ubuntu to change the screen but the thing is im not getting the file in /etc/X11/xorg.conf vi and nano both the editor are making new file
I have a laptop fujitsu siemens amilo pi 1505 for about a year there was ubuntu 8.10 installed on it and everything worked fine. 3 days ago i upgraded it to 9.10 and there where the problems began. Sound crashed OS couldn't find sound card. I've removed alsa, pulse audio completly and sound came back. After about 5-15 min's icons dissappeared from the desktop and i had to restart. From then every time i start after booting i see that:
[URL]
and if i change kernel:
[URL]
though anything i do there in this window makes no difference whatsoever. So then can I somehow restore graphic settings from the terminal? Or repair/restore basic settings of ubuntu without loosing data?
I'm having problems installing 10.04 on a IBM Thinkpad R51. It boots fine, loads the graphics... saying "UBUNTU", and below are some dots red/white moving... then it all goes BLANK... silent.. nothing happens (probably waiting for user imput?)
I've tried getting out of "normal" install by hitting ESC key, and selecting noapic and noa..p..l something?
I have two Ubuntus installed on my computer, but 10.04 doesn't have the right graphics driver, because it's not fast like the other one.So I need to change my graphics driver.Does anyone know how?
I'm basic Ubuntu user. I got new notebook Acer 5745G with GeForce GT 330M. There is no problem installing Ubuntu. After that I'm installing the recommended Nvidia driver. Everything goes well until the system asks me to restart. I'm making restart and that's it. The loading screen is not showing so as the log in screen. And the solution for now is to uninstall and install Ubuntu again. I thing updating the graphic driver is necessary thing. Not sure if this is a bug, but for sure the system is not working after updating it.
