View 8 RepliesI'm looking for a Linux tool that allows me to transcode videos to a video codec that is highly compatible to the Windows platform. We produce large scientific videos from measurements and would like to show those videos during presentations and submit the videos to journals. We want to be as compatible as possible (we can not influence for example the codes installed on the presentation system or on the journal reviewers system).
Virtualdub suggests one of these codecs:
* Radius Cinepak
* Intel Indeo R3.2
* Microsoft Video 1
We tried ffmpeg, mencoder and Virtualdub under wine, none of those tools could produce videos encoded with the aforementioned codecs.
Just installed 10.10 and I am very impressed.
I am not having a big problem at all but my built in video system is clearly behaving like it does not have the right driver.
Are there any video cards out there that are directly well-supported by linux? i.e. genuine linux drivers that allow the card to function at full capacity or close?
My computer is a Dell Dimension 2350 (all factory stuff inside besides RAM cards) with a Intel 845G (I'm almost positive but id have to check windows to see, Factory made also). how do i get my video drivers compatible wiith ubuntu? Oh and my ubuntu version is 10.04.Also does getting your graphics card to be read on ubuntu get you to use Visual Effects (None, Normal, Extra).. And is their a simple fix to the dispearring pointer in 10.04 ?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having problems with my video card (Radeon X1600) ever since I upgraded to 10.04 (video is fine until I stress the video card (eg using 3D acceleration)). This appears to be a problem with the drivers for the video card. I've had problems in the past with video cards (many because I didn't check that the card I'm buying is "Linux friendly" or not. Now I'm doing my do diligence and asking the community what video card I should buy to replace my current one? I have the following Motherboard: [URL]

View 3 Replies View RelatedI got my UGA video adapter in, when purchasing it I saw on its requirements that is showed it had linux support. However, when plugged it in and restarting no image but the default green image was shown. All wires are check and are plugged in. However, I am not seeing on the computer monitor and no 2nd monitor is found on the monitor settings. Also I would like to note that according to a little research, is that the usb video adapter uses displaylink. I am using Ubuntu 11.04, classic ubuntu and 2D unity desktop.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently acquired an HP Pavilion 7845 and have since installed XUbuntu on it. The onboard video, which is shared with the main system memory, is OK. But I am wondering if there are any compatible PCI video cards (possibly with DVI output) so that I can use it with a 32-inch LCD TV I have.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed a video card called ASUS EAH 4550 and installed the ATI drivers necessary for this video card. The problem is this, I current have two users using Debian. I have done all the necessary configurations via x.org and User 1 has no problem accessing GNome with Compiz as the window manager. However, if user 2 was to log in the same way as user 1 (through startx) the screen does not boot up Gnome but instead the screen powers off into standby mode. I've also tried creating a third user and the same thing occurs.
Currently I am typing through User 1 with no problem but additional users for some reason can not get a desktop screen.
I have just installed Ubuntu, and I need a video editor that is compatible with Windows Vista as well.
View 2 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know an Ubuntu 10.10 compatible video capture card that has composite connections for video and audio (yellow, red and white)? It must be external and do its own processing so it doesn't use the computer's own CPU. I intend to capture a live stream and have the Ubuntu PC serve it to other computers. I may use VLC or MythTV. I have looked on various related sites but finding a compatible USB one which does its own decoding is hard to find.

Problem: Convert .TS files to iPod or really any smaller format keeping A/V sync after edit. I can covert my .TS file perfectly if I do not edit it but I want to just do a simple, quick trim of 2 mins from beginning and end.
HandBrake with convert the file perfectly but cannot trim. Avidemux does a great job on the video but I always have to play with the audio shift to get it in sync. It is usually betwenn -250ms to -1000ms off but I cannot count on it. If I run the video through DGIndex in Wine or view it with Mediainfo both programs detect the an offset problem but they are always wrong by almost 500ms and it is never constant.
Regular video editing I have pretty good luck with my normal DV files and I could even run the .TS files through other programs but it is too time consuming to be useful form this simple task. Anytime I want to take my recorded TV .TS files I cannot edit them quickly without making a full project out of it in Openshot Cinelerra, etc.
Has anyone found a quick, reliable way to do some lite video trimming in Ubuntu and keep A/V sync without having to resort to any Windows programs?
EDIT: Also I really do not want to resort to have to demux separately either. I know I am asking a lot but I got spoiled with a couple of Windows programs that will edit without reencode programs like VideoReDo can do the editing and converting all at once (for $100 !).
looking for suggestions for simple editing of avi files. the files come from my digital camera. they are rarely more than a couple of minutes long. i don't want to burn them to a dvd or anything fancy. i just want to clean them up for posting to videos and a media server.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am looking for a simple tool that would allow me to stitch together short mpeg files or to cut out unwanted sequences of files, without having to use a heavy video editing programme like OpenShot.
If it can do the same for audio files (mp3) and possibly convert between formats, even better !
I'm looking for an easy to use video editing tool for cleaning up and enhancing the simple movies that can be made with digital compact stills cameras. My camera (a Panasonic Lumix) records these as Apple Quicktime MOV format and uses a very basic internal microphone to enable it to include a very poor soundtrack. My current desktop is Ubuntu 10.04 running on an old Athlon 64 single core with 2GB RAM with "enough" spare disk capacity for these very short home movie clips. I can play them back with the standard media player at present. I'm not a professional multimedia artist and I'm looking for a very simple, easy to use tool that will enable me to clean up, convert, etc. Ideally, I'd want to send these either via e-mail or on CD to family and friends.

in builder site (mbus.sourceforge.net) posted : note that currently mbusd can't operate with RS-232/RS-485 converters with direction switching by RTS pin. Use converters with automatic data direction control (i.e. Moxa Transio series).
I been searching for months on how to get the s-video to work on my pci VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility M7 LW [Radeon Mobility 7500] card. I found a site with instructions.

I'm looking into purchasing a HD capture device, but the only one which says it supports Linux in the spec is the Blackmagic Intensity Pro (PCi Card). Here is a list of the ones which I'm looking into possibly getting, but I'd like to know if I can use it to record (my Xbox 360) on Ubuntu (Studio) 10.04 Lucid Lynx, and how hard it would be to set it up.
Blackmagic Intensity Pro
Hauppauge HD PVR
AVerTV HD DVR
Blitzbox HD
Also, if you know of any other decent HD capture devices, comment and let me know
The problem of slow usb transfer speeds has been half solved in Lucid. I'm getting 25 mbps plus speeds when it comes to transferring data to portable hard drive. But with my Kingston flash drive the speeds are still as low as 2 mbps. Is this because some flash drives are not meant to be compatible with Ubuntu?
