I just updated to 10.10 (), but I have one problem. I changed my password a few days ago, and now whenever I log on, It comes up with the attached message, and I have to type in my OLD password to connect to wireless.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI found much of the info is out of date. I installed Lucid - my /home was on a separate partition so I did not format it to keep the original settings and mail. When trying to send/receive mail, Evolution now asks for the old login password from the previous install to open the mail keyring. "The password you use to login no longer matches that of your login keyring" There is a box to enter the old PW.
SOLUTION:
-Go to Applications-Accessories-Passwords and Encryption Keys
-Right click on Passwords:login
-Select Change Password
-Type your old login password in the "Old Password" field
-Type your new password in both the Password: and Confirm: fields.
-Click OK
-REBOOT
Evolution will now use your new login password to access the keyring.
I have recently made a fresh install of Lucid Lynx. After restarting my computer (due to kernel updates), my log in password no longer unlocks my login keyring. I have never changed either password, so there is no "old" password to resort to.How do I fix this? I am not opposed to deleting whatever data is encrypted by this keyring. Also, how might this have happened? This could be a bug; are there any relevant log files or such?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI tried to run Ubuntu One on my Lucid Lynx, however, when I want to start the Ubuntu One Client, I just receive a message from Login Keyring asking for a password:
The password you use to log in to your computer no longer matches that of your login keyring.
I haven't change my login password for a long time. It is still the same and it works.
However, when I put my current password below the keyring's message it says it is incorrect. When I try to change the password in in Accessories > Passwords and Encryption Keys it writes that the old password (my current one) is not correct.
What happens? Which password should I type there? I do not remember I set somewhere any other password than my current login one.
I have Lucid working nicely now, and I've started using Gwibber, which seems to try to connect at login. The only problem is that I'm immediately asked for the login keyring password (which happens to be the same exact password I just entered to log into the machine). This happens every time I boot the machine.
Is there any way to make it stop asking me for this login keyring password? I just don't get why I have to enter the same password twice.

I'm about to turn off the prompt for a keyring password at logon following these instructions. But I wonder whether I'm going to be losing anything in the way of security. To eliminate the prompt for the keyring password, am I going to miss out on anything? In other words, just what does the keyring do? If it matters, I don't use Evolution e-mail (I just use old-fashioned web mail). To my knowledge the only passwords stored on my machine are that for my wireless network and whatever website passwords my browser stores.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I boot up my password is requested three separate times by the keyring. Sometimes if I have left my computer to boot up it will actually be requested four times. I get the impression it relates to start up programs, for example if I leave it so that it requests the password a fourth time, at the same time the wifi connection settings pop up requesting the wifi password. I remember having a similar problem before and I think I was able to set a program as always having access to the keyring once logged in, but I can't remember or find how to do this. The programs that are maximized on startup are; transmission, liferea. Docky and gnome-do are also arranged to load on startup.

I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and recently started getting a pop-up similar to the following at every boot up: Login keyring failed Your login keyring did not succeed. Enter login keyring here: That's not [exactly] what it says, but very similar. I should probably add that I have not set up any different 'user profiles' or whatever they're called, but am the only one using this PC...at least, at the present time. Again, this only started a couple of weeks ago and I don't know what I did to start it nor what to do to stop it. I guess it's not extremely painful to have to type my password in every time, but a PITA nevertheless.

However, there is a small annoyance I'd like to fix: every time I log in, I get a prompt saying that an application (the wireless network manager) is requesting the password for such-and-such keyring. I have to enter the password before I can connect to my network. Is there a way to get around this somehow so that I don't have to enter the keyring password for this keyring (the "default" keyring) every time I log in?

The only problem (so far) is that Network Manager requires you to enter your password every time you login to unlock the password keyring. I want to disable this.
I think some distros disable the prompt by using the login password to unlock the keyring, but I use auto-login (if that makes a difference).
I'm using Ubuntu 10.04LTS. I'm trying to configure my chat accounts. But after entering username and password, it is asking "Enter password to unlock your login keyring". One is:
"The password you use to log in to your computer no longer matches that of your log in keyring."
This is in a window that pops up on my desktop after I log in and I have to enter my old password to get in the rest of the way.
I found this: url link and followed the path given in post #2. There, in the list, I find an entry named "uname@host" which shows my new/ changed host name. When I double click it and expand the "password" section at the bottom of the window I find that the password is indeed my new password, not the old one (you can tick box to "show password").
The other is, and I think this is connected:
When I use sudo in the terminal I get: "unable to resolve host"
I went to:

and in the second line what I see is the old host name and not the new. I think that if I can correct this second thing, both will be resolved?? Or is that file even relevant to the situation??
If that is true, I want to make sure I go about it in the right way and not end up locking myself out of my own computer or something stupid like that.
Been having trouble connecting to the internet and i am no longer being asked for password/keyring prompt at start-up. Something the prompt comes up 5-15 minutes after start-up.
I even manually set 'password at login' but it doesn't even ask me for that?

i found something about Avahi potentially causing a conflict with network configuration - so i typed the following command and am now online at least:
sudo stop avahi-daemon
sudo sed -e '/^start/,+1s/^/#/' /etc/init/avahi-daemon.conf
I just finished installing 10.10 on my pc. the problem is that i cant login to the desktop i enter the password, the login sound plays and im stuck looking at the wallpaper. nothing else. i tried logging in safe mode and it worked. how can i get it to work normally?

I just bought this desktop from my friend and it runs win 7 and ubuntu 10.04. it worked very well the first two days until I changed the hostname of the system.
I did like: hostname myNewName
And everything worked fine. The problem now is when I start ubuntu and and reach username and password screen , I enter my password to login the screen becomes black and return me again to the screen where I put my password again. If I entered wrong password , the system message stating wrong password. On the other hand, when I try to run ubuntu from live-cd I can login easily and access my account.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI'm seeing really bad user login format under a standard installation and am wondering why ubuntu does this as default. I have noticed that the graphical login for gnome sizes itself to accommodate a user's exact password length. This indicates to me that somewhere on the unencrypted part of a standard installation with user encryption contains at least some indication of the content of the password length which seems a security flaw even if not a complete hole, it majorly reduces the number of attempts a cracker would have to cycle through.
And that's assuming that *only* the length is contained. Furthermore it seems that it would be MUCH better to simply display the number of characters entered into the pw field and allowing the gui to expand itself from an fixed size as the field is filled out so the the user still receives visual feedback for entering characters. Either a simple character count display should be entered into the field or a 10 dot to new line so that one can visually quickly count the number enter by multiplying from a 10base graphical observation.
been using 11.2 with KDE on a Sony laptop since 11.2 was released always ran perfect suddenly I can't login, I get to the login screen type in password it begins to load my desktop, then fails and dumps me back to the login screen I can login as root, all my stuff is there (under /home/me) I tried changing my password, no luck I went to run level 3 and there I can login just fine seems to be something with my KDE profile

I've set up password-less login for user1 on a Ubuntu machine to login automatically into a Fedora box using the publickey authentication method. Everything is working smoothly. Now, there is a user2 on Fedora but he does not have an account on Ubuntu.
I tried to login as user2 from Ubuntu to but got the following error :

Predictably neither scp or sftp work either. I have several questions as a result.
1.Is the SSH server rejecting user2 login because I am inadvertently using user1 keys (as I am logged in as user1) ?
2. Do I need to have a user2 account on Ubuntu and public/private key authentication setup with Fedora for user2 to be able to login ?
3. Is there a method I can use to password login as user2 from Ubuntu to Fedora (even though there is no user2 account on Ubuntu) AND still keep password-less login for user1 or do I have to have password-less login for both ?
At present the only way to access the user2 account from Ubuntu is to SSH using the user1 account and then su to user2.
