Jul 22, 2011I currently have Ubuntu running on my dads computer, but came to the conclusion, not to mention his complaining, that Ubuntu isn't for him. Instead, I read up on Kubuntu and thought it was perfect!
I already know that I can download Kubuntu through the Ubuntu software center, but I want to do a complete clean install with Kubuntu. So far, I have made a cd for Kubuntu, but can't get the cd to pick up when I boot my pc, so that I may install it.
How can I install Kubuntu for his computer and remove Ubuntu?

Jun 2, 2011Recently I installed Ubuntu parallel to windows, since I still have some projects to finish using windows software. While exploring the world of Ubuntu I came across Kubuntu, which looked very nice. Now I made the mistake to download the installation disk and install Kubuntu parallel to Ubuntu and Windows. I played around with Kubuntu for a while, it looks really nice but I decided to stick to Ubuntu. So now I would like to remove Kubuntu, but I don't know how. The same goes for Windows, as soon as I have finished my projects with windows software. I would like to remove it as well, so that finally my computer runs only on Ubuntu.

Tri-booting. They were installed in the order I listed above. I ran into a few bugs with Kubuntu, so I no longer want to use it. I want to use GParted on a LiveCD to format Kubuntu and expand my Ubuntu home partition to sit on top of Kubuntu's space right now. If I nuke Kubuntu, will Grub still exist with my Ubuntu/XP entries to boot?

Mar 7, 2011I would like to apply KDE on my Kubuntu because the current one blew up. But each time I to sudo get-apt it seems to be fetching from the cloud. Is there a way I can make it to read from my local Kubuntu CD? I have both Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and Kubuntu Live CDs.
I believe the local disk read should be faster to translate than to bite the bytes across thousands of miles over the wire right?

I don't understand how v. 11.04 is an improvement over v. 10.10.

Even if I try to uninstall wine via "sudo apt-get remove wine" I can still navigate to Steam through Applications - Wine - Programs - Steam. I don't know what to do. Jul 9, 2010I installed the latest updates last night (It came up automatically on the screen and I clicked the Update). Now I am having problems mainly my wireless network keeps connecting/disconnecting then sometimes asks for the password/key for the router etc.The system also got hung today and had to hard boot.
I am pretty sure one or some of the updates is responsible for this rather annoying problem, but I do not know how to undo the latest updates?The original install could not even pick up the wireless bcs it is a RealTek RTL8191SE NIC and this particular NIC had problems with Linux drivers! It started to work by itself after the 2nd or 3rd update.

Jul 23, 2010Ok, so I tried to run the .deb package to install the Facebook chat plugin for Pidgin, and something got all messed up with that, and now nothing will install or uninstall. Synaptics won't run, Update Manager tells me to try a termianl command that doesn't work, and the Software center doesn't work either. I've attached screenshots of the problems. I've tried to download and reinstall the .deb file, and it still doesn't work.
I wanted to upload one more picture, but it only allows five. The last picture was of the terminal window. Here's what it said.

I got an error half way though so i thought nothing of it and went off to do other things. Now when i try and install or uninstall anything i get this message
The package system is broken If you are using third party repositories then disable them, since they are a common source of problems. Now run the following command in a terminal: apt-get install -f
And the details read sun-java6-plugin.

It has an x by the package & I get an error no matter what I try to do.
