View 3 RepliesI have ubuntu 9.10. Video is working , but sound not working. When I type, sudo aplay -l, a message **** List of Playback Hardware Devices **** shown. But there is no list. My computer is Intel 810 onboard sound AC '97 (codec ) system. More information in this page: [URL]
View 1 Replies View RelatedRecently audio stopped working in my flash video, when browsing in Chrome or Firefox, video is ok, but no audio. I don't know when did it stop to work. My system is SUSE 11.3 with all software up-to-date.
View 9 Replies View Relatedi am using Ubuntu 11.04 on my computer system. I urgently need a good video converter for converting videos.I have already installed FFmpeg and men-coder,Winff etc. The problem is each has its own drawback. For instance ffmpeg cannot convert a .avi to .3gp with audio working. My preferences are the converter should be user friendly, should support all popular video formats.
View 2 Replies View Relatedhow I can use in my Kubuntu 9.10, audio codec - <voxware metasound audio codec>? P.S. Sorry for my bad english. I look forward to an answer,
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a video file in which the audio runs faster than the video, so they quickly go out of sync. The way to fix it would be to separate the audio and video streams, speed up the video (the audio is FINE, it's the video that's wrong), and then recombining them. What is the easiest way for doing that?
View 7 Replies View RelatedIs there an application that anyone knows about that I can use to convert either an .flv or .ogg file that contains both audio and video to just an audio .ogg file (preferably vorbis+theora) without audacity? I'm fairly certain audacity could accomplish this but it seems like overkill for what I'm trying to do and the computer I'm trying to use does not run it so well.
::EDIT:: I should also mention that I've tried looking on google. I did find downloadhelper extension for firefox which uses ffmpeg to convert the files but I don't see any obvious way to strip the video.
I am looking for a tool that
- will convert my mp3 to mp3 and other audio formats.
- will look in KDE4. ( or will just work, if none is available)
I've tried to use Amarok and Rhythymbox, and neither one will play an Audio CD. Rhythymbox will play music files from an external hard drive, but won't play a CD.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running Kubuntu 9.10, and I like it (yay!) But I've been having issues with sound. Especially under system load I've been having an error where it says that the device analog 9xxx has failed falling back to digital, then it says almost immediately device digital 9xxx has failed falling back to analog. At this point any programs playing sound seem to retain that ability as long as I don't close them, but any programs I open have no sound. This applies to webpages and flash, as well as internal programs. I have also been having issues with video, no errors, but the video skips and freezes. Flash video occasionally crashes and any flash games that submit data (e.g. high scores) to a remote system crash my browser.
I end up having to pause the video and move it back several frames, then wait as if it had to load from ..... for a while, and it will run again for some time. My hardware is a dell inspiron e1505 on which the only things I have done are to replace a broken monitor and upgrade the ram (that is, after I broke windows too many times and converted to Linux. I don't have more error data for you, I simply haven't had the foresight to stick it into a text file yet. The error is displayed in the Notifications and Jobs button in the system tray, which is not well suited to copying and pasting, and I'm admittedly unsure as to how to find the error. I learned BASH on Sun unix at my local college and I still haven't quite learned all of how to speak ubuntu's terminal.
I have tried linux before but I never found one that suited me. I'm now trying kubuntu 10.04 on my mini laptop but I have run into a problem. I have sounds when the computer start and shutdown and other sounds like incoming mail and stuff just not in amarok or any other media player at all nor on ..... and I've been googling it for the last few days and have found others with simular problems but none running Kubuntu 10.04 so I figured I'd give the solutions they got a try but I just can't get them to work on my computer. Might be my lack of linux skill so please go eazy on me and yes I have checked that the audio is not muted. Which codec pack to be installed and how to do it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI simply want to record audio webcasts with stock Kubuntu tools. I just prefer to not download and install more software.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSetting up a linux based church server to be placed with a collocation host.
-- Server will be used for:
--- providing .pdf files
--- live streaming of church services (audio for now audio video soon)
--- providing audio files
--- providing audio-video files
--- our internet web site
A. Is there a preferred Linux distribution that will make this easier?
B. What is the best format for audio and video files that will be viewed variously on Linux, Mac, and Microsoft operating systems? Files will need to be played on older versions of operating systems and may need a free or very low cost software to play (e.g. play on Win2k)
C. What software is best for recording the audio or audio-video files? Some additional funding might be justified for this software, particularly if it can also support live streaming.
D. What software is best for live streaming both on the file creation and the listening-viewing sides of the process?
Ideally we would like to have a single software suite to live stream, and make downloadable audio or audio-video files for later download, and not require those listening and viewing to have to install additional software. Keeping file sizes small is also desirable because some of our users will probably only have dial-up internet.
I have detected some problems when I try to record sound in my Kubuntu 10.04 system.
The problem is that the "default" device for audio recording does not work but I have to select another device to do so. I always selected the "default" device for audio recoding but currently I have to select hw:0,2 device.
Another odd thing is that different programs show me different device. For example, Audacity shows me that I have the following audio recording devices:
- HDA Intel: ALC888 Digital (hw:0,1)
- HDA Intel: ALC888 Analog (hw:0,2)
- spdif
- default
The only one that works is hw:0,2.
But arecord shows me (when I execute "arecord -L") the following:
Finally, in KDE system preferences for audio I get that I have 2 different audio devices for audio recording:
- HDA Intel (ALC888 Analog): it is said that it will try first x-phonon (CARD=0, DEV=0) and, if the latter does not work, it will try plughw (CARD=0, DEV=0)
- HDA Intel (ALC888 Digital): it is said that it will try first x-phonon (CARD=0, DEV=1) and, if the latter does not work, it will try plughw (CARD=0, DEV=1)
Where is the hw:0,2? and how can I set the alsa system to use hw:0,2 as the default device for audio recording?
All of that would not be a problem but I also have an ubuntu 9.04 installed on a virtual machine (by using virtualbox) and audio recording doesn't work there. I suppose that it is becase of the virtual sound card is using default devices for playing and recording audio.
I must say that audio playback works fine in both host and guest systems. It is just audio recording.
I installed Kubuntu 10.04 and found out that there is no sound for flash in firefox. Also I here no sound when playing local video files (VLC, KMPlayer).
I checked kMix and everything is on. I tried to install pulseaudio, but I am not sure about it. Last time I saw it couldnt connect to some server or what... Although I can hear system sound and Amarok 2 plays mp3. I didnt mention that I tried to install libflashplugin and kubuntu restricted extras.
To get multimedia working, or explain what I'm doing wrong.
The problem is that none of the video players doesn't play video, they show only black window and play audio.
I have Fedora 11 Leonidas, fully up-to-date.
I have installed rpmfusion and livna repository.
I have installed following packages:
When I try to play video with totem, it doesn't output any error, but just doesn't play video.
with mplayer:
xine and kaffeine just say:
vlc:
I tried several different files, which works perfectly in windows and ubuntu.
I installed windows binary codecs for mplayer to /usr/lib/codec/
I am having a problem getting sound to work in flash-videos in Kubuntu 10.10. My system currently has two working sound cards, the one integrated into my motherboard and the other is a USB Logitech headset. After installation, the speakers were set as my default output device which I did not want. I was able to move all the sounds over to the USB headset using phonon. While Amarok works, videos work (downloaded, wmv, avi, divx, etc) I cannot get flash video to work in Firefox. I set up my prefered device as the USB headset for everything in Phonon, but still the sound will only come out of my integrated soundcard (speakers). I'm not sure what exactly I am missing, I set everything up, but still it's a no go. What switch did I miss? I haven't used Kubuntu for a while, but i'm pretty sure this worked fine in Ubuntu 9.04 (when I last used it).
View 4 Replies View RelatedSo I've got this old Apple with an nVidia chipset. Don't know much about Apples, but from random searches on google I think it's an imac g5.
Anyway when I install Kubuntu 10.04 it works until I update it, then the video dies. It looks as though the nouveau driver is being killed and nv put back in it's place, anyone have any remedies I might try?
In lmms there is no sound and it says:
No audio-driver working - falling back to dummy-audio-driver
in the command prompt. Sound works everywhere else just not lmms.
I have a Dell Inspiron 1525, X-UB 8.04. Audio: I want to be able to turn the volume up or down, I cannot find any control that does this. Video brightness: this has 2 settings in BIOS, (a) on battery (b) on
AC power. From time to time something (I have no idea what) turns the (b) setting down from 8 to 2 and the screen becomes very murky. The only way I know to fix this is to shut down & restart & go into the BIOS & turn it back up. Is there a way to reset (b) without having to shut down & restart? Is there a way to discover what bit of S-ware is the culprit?
I installed ubuntu there is another problem iam getting is that i cant play any audio file or video file when i clicked on the file it is saying search for suitable codec when i click on search it is.
View 3 Replies View Relatedwhen i had windows xp i used to convert almost any videos video into audio (the whole video into audio) by going to [url], downloading vdownloader and just inserting the url in the box provided; waiting for a couple of minutes and having an mp3 format file at the location that i want it to be in the desktop. when i searched for something similar for linux, because vdownloader was an .exe file and obviously wasn't going to work on ubuntu.
i found that i could get a video downloaded from videos but not an audio - i wait for the video to finish buffering; click on places; computer; file system; tmp; then rename the video folder and copy/relocate it to where ever on the desktop. ending with this video format "flash video (video/x-flv)". my question is: is there a linux program where i get to convert the entire video format to an audio format, possibly mp3?
My university uses 802.1x Dynamic WEP, with PEAP, MSCHAPv2, and no CA certificate. Our IT department actually provides instructions for Ubuntu, and they work, but I can't get it to work in Kubuntu. Here's the instructions using the Gnome Network Manager applet:
- Change the LEAP setting to Dynamic WEP (802.1x).
- Change the Authentication setting from TLS to Protected EAP (PEAP).
- Leave the Anonymous Identity option blank.
- Leave the CA certificate setting to None.
- Change the PEAP version to version 0 if running 8.10, or Automatic if running 9.04+.
- Leave the inner authentication setting to MSCHAPv2.
- Enter your username.
- Enter your password.
- Select OK. A warning message will appear about having no certificate; click Ignore.
- Click Connect.
I'm using Kubuntu 10.10. All the same settings are there for the KDE plasma network manager applet, but the connection always fails immediately. How do I go about debugging this? Is there a way to test this out from the command line? (WiFi in general works fine, on regular WEP and WPA secured networks; just having trouble with this one).
I usually use Ubuntu, but installed Xubuntu, Kubuntu and Fedora (xfce). However, none of these three will boot into the desktop! Xubuntu and Fedora-xfce seem to boot, but before it loads the desktop the screen stays black and nothing happends. With Kubuntu, it loads the login screen but every time I try to log in the screen goes black, then it returns to the login screen again. It will just keep doing this until you reboot or shutdown.
I cant see any type of error messages come up and my current install of Ubuntu (11.04) seems unaffected.Does anybody know what is happening here? is it a common bug/problem or something no one has really heard of before? Im just really stumped and cant seem to get anywhere with it,
I'm new to Linux. And I tried using the at command to echo "Hello" after 2 minutes and I saw the following.-$ at now + 2 minutes-at> echo "Hello"-at> <EOT> job 7 at Tue Aug 9 23:59:00 2011So far it hasn't worked. I'm trying to get used to the syntax. Am I missing something?

Is there a video editor that also allows me to edit the audio. For example I have 2 videos and want to take the audio from one clip and add it to the other clip. I have tried Avidemux and Pitivi but these don't seem to have this ability.
