Feb 12, 2011I want to embed a movie in a latex beamer presentation. I run Ubuntu 10.04 and I know running pdf embedded movies under Linux is still a problem.From what I have been able to dig up, the guys at Okular have partially solved this problem. It seems that Okular under KDE is able to run embedded movies in a pdf presentation. I downloaded it and it doesn't work for my Ubuntu distribution.Can anyone confirm this? Will installing kde through apt-get solve my problem?
I'm asking this because it also seems to be a pain to uninstall KDE and it's components after installing it.By the way, I am completely open to dual booting into a different distro in order to see my embedded movies, so if anyone has embedded movies working in some other distro, I'm open to installing it!

May 6, 2010I'm experiencing the following problem with latex. A tex file using using the beamer documentclass and the pstricks package will not compile properly. To be more precise, latex-ing results in a dvi file but the pspictures are missing. When using pdflatex I'm repeatedly prompted with a?. Replying with enter all the time gives a pdf file without the pictures again. I'm running 11.2 with KDE and the normal preinstalled texlive. Version 2008-13-15.1-x86_64 from the Update repo that is. Jul 14, 2011I am using Kile, to edit LaTeX documents and every time I click on build button Kile opens Okular which shows my .pdf. Problem begins, when I do this multiple times, as Kile opens another Okular for same document everytime I click build button. I end up having 1 pdf opened multiple times and it is getting on my nerves. Is there any way I can make Kile open only 1 Okular window and updates it when I click on build button?

Jan 28, 2010I am using emacs 23.1.1 on Ubuntu 9.04, kernel 2.6.28-17-generic. When I scroll up and down in a file, occasionally some of the lines are not refreshed properly. i.e. if a line with a lot of text is replaced with a line that has little text, some of the old text that used to be on the line remains (see attached screenshot,near the bottom).
I have the same problem in Kile, so it must not be a bug with either program directly (I think?). I do not have the problem with gedit.

May 4, 2011For some reason, from time to time on login, as my normal theme starts to load, it changes to some sort of silver theme (a very basic one), and I am unable to change it over to any other theme. Checking the theme being used, it still says my desired one is set, but it is not. Also, no matter what theme I change it to, that basic silver theme is the one being used. This includes a default icon theme, not the one I prefer.
The only option that seems to fix things is a restart, and the hope that on this login it won't mess up like before.I am using Natty, from a fresh install, with Ubuntu Classic as my desktop, and have reinstalled things more than once to try and fix a few of the Natty-related issues, but this one keeps coming back.

Twice in the past couple of days I've had the bizarre experience that, upon a sudden burst of typing my text has appeared in Kile in reverse order.

Feb 21, 2011I updated my laptop from F12 to F14 via preupgrade. After doing so, the standard mouse theme was active. So I installed the one I like again and set it as mouse theme. For some reason it is now a mixture of the one I installed and the standard theme. If I open a place in nautilus the displayed symbol is the right one while waiting, if I open something in control center I get the standard icon. Same problem with drag and drop, I always get the hand from the standard theme. I also tried the former standard theme Bluecurve and it was the same problem.Can anyone tell me what goes wrong with the theme? What has changed in F14, that the older themes won't work?

Aug 4, 2011I enjoy using vim from lxterminal with the black background, as well as awesome with its dark theme. I configured xfe manually to be darkish, and i use darklooks as a GTK theme to suit it as well. I could say all my desktop looks pretty dark, which my eyes thank me for. I also use redshift.But problems come along when surfing the web. Most web pages (including this one) have very bright styles. They are not the problem themselves, but switching from my windows hurts my eyes since it's a quick change to a much brighter screen.What would you do, either:
1. Use everything with a brighter background and putting the screen brightness a bit lower. (changing the GTK theme to clearlooks, using lxterminal with a white background, etc.)
2. Use some color theme with uzbl so that pages would look much darker. (like when you set manually the text and background colors in Firefox/Iceweasel)
I would myself go with the second one if most pages wouldn't look that bad when modified that way. For example, many pages use non-transparent images with white backgrounds on white pages, so if you change the background to black not only it looks horrible but it too is a mess.
Fedora :: Index.theme Does Not Appear To Be Valid Theme
Jun 27, 2009I'm running Fedora 11 x86_64 (GNOME) and I'm having a problem installing ANY themes from http://art.gnome.org. Any time I try to install a theme I get an error that it's "appears to not be a valid theme" When I first click the install button and navigate to my theme packages, I don't see the [dot] theme file, which is a red-flag. I change to "All files" and I tend to see an "index.theme". Is this the correct file?
