Boot process ends up as shown at attached jpg.I use Biostar motherboard P35D2-A7 When I tried to use the kernel on the installation dvd I got working system. But no succes with huge or generic (with initrd) kernels.
I've got 13.1 x86_64 installed on /dev/sda2, and I would like to have 13.1 x86 installed on /dev/sdb2. How do I setup lilo.conf to handle this? While installing 13.1 x86 on /dev/sdb2 I skipped the LILO step, so what I currently have is a full 32 bit Slackware 13.1 install on /dev/sdb2, but no way to boot it.
I am running Ubuntu 9.10 on an HP dc5100MT workstation. Sound works nearly all the time, but once in a while, the sound stops and I have no idea why. The channel is not muted, the volume is 100%, and not even rebooting fixes it. It will just start working on its own.Under the Sound Preferences panel, the output volume is 100%. The channel is not muted. I can get sound out of the internal speaker by changing the connector to "Analog Output (LFE) / No Amplifier", but not out of the "Analog Output / Amplifier" which is the green sound cable plugged into the sound card.I only use this machine as a video player using VLCNothing else.I would like to know some tricks to isolate and troubleshoot this when it happens.
My PS2 keyboard randomly stops working. Sometimes instead of this it get stuck on a letter/number (for example, it starts writing "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa" non stop) and it stays that way until i reboot my computer. Even the leds (num lock, caps lock, scroll lock) stop responding. Yes, i have tried to unplug and plug in the keyboard but nothing really happens.
I have a WD Caviar Green 2TB drive installed into a NAS server. Without any explanation, randomly, usually after several days of uptime, the drive stops responding completely to the SATA bus.The syslog shows:
My organization has been using PASV FTP via VSFTPD for some time now. We have defined the port range between 30000 and 33333 and as I mentioned, it has worked up to 20100108 (last Friday). It appears that VSFTPD is not negotiating the defined PASV port range, which we can see with both netstat and tcpdump. Has anyone here run into this before? Are there any VSFTPD hackers out there who know what mechanism VSFTPD is using to re-allocate the ports? I would think that it would release the port, and flag it as unused, or something.
Adobe Flash plugin stops suddenly when when playing videos from ...... I am using Fedora 13 on my machine, and have the latest Adobe Flash-player installed.
I have these "out of memory" issues with fedora 13 64bit. previously we had centos5, the same environment in terms of programs used, nevr experienced these problems. the issues are for instance a java application already started stops suddenly, or won't even start. example from tomcat stop:
[code]...
The one thing i don't understand about these numbers is where it goes all that used memory. i only listed the top 40 tasks out of 200 in order of physical ram used, can it be that even if it "sees" 5gb it cannot use it all, just like say windows7 and usable memory? (I recently troubleshooted that one, where out of 12gb w7 reported 8gb usable, I solved that by reverting the cpu overclocking.)
My problem is that my wireless network traffic sometimes just stop.Like when I tries to update my system, update NetBeans or just download using Uget. I have no clue on what's wrong,Here is my system info:
After a while, my connection suddenly drops and I'm no longer able to see any networks or anything. The only way I can regain my connection is to reboot over time this happens, which is a pain. I've searched around and can't find any fix for this card.
(Ubuntu LTS 10.4) I have multiple mail accounts on Thunderbird (TB). All worked fine with no issues whatsoever. A few months ago it suddenly started giving me this alert message related to my yahoo.fr pop3 account
Quote:
The POP3 mail server (pop.mail.yahoo.fr) does not support UIDL or XTND XLST, which are required to implement the ``Leave on Server'', ``Maximum Message Size'' or ``Fetch Headers Only'' options. To download your mail, turn off these options in the Server Settings for your mail server in the Account Settings window.
Obviously I checked if these settings were somehow changed. They weren't. It should leave messages on the server indeed, but I don't use no max message size or fetch headers only options. The original settings are what they used to be and how they have always worked.
The thing is: everything works normal if I start up TB. It downloads the messages, puts them in the folders where I want them to come etc... The problem seems to appear after a while (mostly a few hours, or overnight). It just stops downloading the messages from my yahoo.fr account. When I click the Get Mail for my yahoo account the above alert message pops up.
There is only one solution really. Close TB and restart it after which all works fine again.
It might be that the problem is related to another issue reported as bug # 689453 in launchpad that started around the same time (a few months ago). That bug forces me to have to end the process through the System Monitor where Thunderbird-bin uses almost 100% of the CPU and doesn't shut down.
Obviously it doesn't avoid me from using TB, but it starts to work on my nerves to have to close down TB (sometimes through the End Process in system monitor) and then restart it so frequently.
I am running (K)Ubuntu Lucid 10.04 64bit on a Dell Latitude E6400, WiFi Card Intel 5100. Never had any problems with networking. Up to about 2 weeks ago. I do realize there have been quite a few posts with this network adaptor, but non really described the problem I have here.
What happens is that suddenly the WiFi LED on the computer stops blinking, the WiFi connection gets disrupted, and the device is not recognized anymore when checking ifconfig. Only cold restarting the machine helps then... it will work for a while (between 1 and 20 minutes) and then crash again.
On Windows 7 the card works perfectly fine. With Ubuntu 11.04 in Live CD mode I have the same effects (connection crashes after a while). Also tried booting an older kernel, no success.
My exact hardware:

I notived the following problems in /var/log/kern.log
I have just been forced into upgrading my mother board and cpu so now own a x86 cpu and was thinking i would give the x86_64 Slackware a try. I realize that i need to do a reinstall but can i save my /home partition? Will that save my settings or am i asking for problems? I assume i can just drop all of my config files into the new install as well.
I have slackware 13.37-64 bit with nvidia gforce 210. Since i did the installation and use the default graphic card driver (nouveau) i see that after some hours of using it suddenly freezes. I can't do anything, even use alt_ctl_backspace or alt_ctl_del for reboot, so i use the button of the pc to reboot. The only thing that i have noticed is that it happens that every time it freezes i am using firefox. But i don't know if it has every relation with this. Since i'm not very experienced user and can't understand the log files i have put here the pieces of /var/log/syslog and /var/log/messages related to the time that the freeze happens:
/var/log/syslog:
Code: May 3 01:29:51 slaris udevd[1517]: bind failed: Address already in use May 3 01:29:51 slaris kernel: [ 0.281291] ACPI: PCI Interrupt Link [LN0A] enabled at IRQ 19
I used the fbreader.SlackBuild in a 64bit system to create a package and I got some libraries installed under /usr/lib instead of /usr/lib64. FBReader seems to work fine though, so I'm not sure this is a problem. I guess it could be if some other app looks for those libraries. Just thought I should report it anyway.
The sc spreadsheet app doesn't really work in 64bits. It launches but you're unable to do anything with it, it's not possible to enter any values in the cells or do anything else. It works fine in 32bit though.
To make it work properly in 64bits, you can use this patch, borrowed from debian: http://salix.enialis.net/x86_64/13.1...changes-7.16-3
And there is also this patch to make DESTDIR work properly with the Makefile: http://salix.enialis.net/x86_64/13.1...-destdir.patch
The background to the problem. I was dangerous, not deadly or elite and I want to be that way again. The best representation that I have found is oolite. Now this installs by auto-package but only in 32-bit and I find auto-package a bit of a pain. I have the windows version installed and running under wine but would prefer a compiled 64-bit Slackware package.
Oolite requires gnu-step so I have downloaded the source and some old (12.2) slackbuilds, which I have modified, and made a package for gnustep-make. The next stage is to make a package for gnustep-base however it is failing with the following error
Code:
./configure: line 1390: gnustep-config: command not found configure: error: cannot run /bin/sh /tmp/SBo/gnustep-base-1.18.0/config.sub
I'm mainly asking beforehand so I won't have to shoot myself in the head twenty minutes from now. I suppose I'll find/figure out one way or the other anyway . Can I just source the 32dev.sh and then run sbopkg -i if the source for the package I want to create isn't 64bit capable? I might need to change the $ARCH variable to x86_64 too, right?
I'm trying to install Tk from CPAN in slackware-current x86_64 for perl v5.12.3 and get the following error message
Code: In file included from Xlib_f.c:8:0: Xlib.h:22:15: error: conflicting types for 'XKeycodeToKeysym' /usr/include/X11/Xlib.h:1694:15: note: previous declaration of 'XKeycodeToKeysym' was here
Tue Mar 2 23:31:51 UTC 2010 Here are a few more fixes for the big update. These were mentioned previously, but the packages were missing:
xap/gnuplot-4.2.6-x86_64-1.txz: Upgraded. x/xterm-255-i486-1.txz: Upgraded. x/xf86-video-nv-2.1.16-i486-1.txz: Upgraded. x/fontconfig-2.8.0-i486-1.txz: Upgraded. And this one was present, but not mentioned: x/xf86-video-geode-2.11.7-i486-1.txz: Upgraded.
I have a very frustrating stability problem on my Workstation where I run a Slackware64 Current installation. The problem is, many programs just crashes, after they started, or after a quit short while. Affected are Firefox, Thunderbird, Krusader, Amarok, Konsole, and many other programs. The second problem is, if I downloaded a bzip2 archive, it is corrupt. I downloaded many archives, from other mirrors, and all corrupt. I had installed, the Multilib-packages, thought they would be the reason for the problems, and installed the standard packages of glibc and gcc. No changes. Then I upgraded the kernel from 2.6.33.4, to 2.6.35.6. (Compiled it myself) Nothing better.
I have just started with Slackware and I have a problem with my wifi. I don't know if I should make more changes to any archive but when I try to start my wifi it doesn't work at all. What I should do? take into consideration that I come from Ubunut, where everything is done beforehand.
I would like to report that at time of writing the package pan-0.134-x86_64-1.txz is shipped with -current 32 bit. It's not mislabeled, I think it's the actual x86_64 package:
Code: $ pan bash: /usr/bin/pan: cannot execute binary file
In KDE @ Slackware 13.1, turn on composite, and lock the screen. Then move the mouse. For > 3/4 of the time I can see the screen saver suddenly disappeared and my desktop showed up for about 0.1s, then the screen saver came back and asked for password. This problem can enable unauthorized people to peek into a locked screen. I don't know if this is because of my poor laptop with Intel integrated graphics. Can anyone reproduce it?
I am very new to Slackware and Linux. I was able to install and run Slackware 13.0. But I have no clue to install anything to Slackware. Can some one kindly explain step by step how can I install pidgin-2.5.9-x86_64-1.txz ?. It will be a great help. How can I learn Slackware?
A routine slackpkg upgrade-all on Slackware64 13.1 upgraded xrdb to xrdb-1.0.9-x86_64-1_slack13.1 and resulted in breaking urxvt. The cause was hard to find; it turned out to be a trailing space in ~/.Xresources on custom line
Code: URxvt.keysym.Mod4-v: perl:clipboard:paste which sets up Super+E to call the sub paste in the perl file "clipboard".
IDK whether other X resources or programs would be more tolerant of trailing space(s) and whether this is Slackware-specific (unlikely, given Slackware's philosophy) but it is such a difficult problem to identify I thought it worth this "heads up".
I'm having an issue where the proprietary nvidia driver seems to crash my system. the weird thing is that it only happens if i have already started an X session. here is what i mean. i don't use a display manager so i invoke X by running startx. now if i run it for the first time it starts no problem. but if i kill X with ctrl-alt-backspace and then try to run startx again it just hangs and the machine completely freezes up. this only happens with the proprietary nvidia driver. if i use the vesa driver it works fine. the open-source nvidia driver doesn't seem to support my card: GeForce GT220. i never had this problem with slackware 13 x86. i have tried using the 190.42 version from slackbuilds.org as well as the latest version from nvidia's site 190.53. aside from this problem it seems to work fine otherwise.
