When I boot, after startup and before I log on, an error icon appears. I click - it shows a summary of the material that normally rolls by on a unix startup. One item is checked. It says:
Code: Enabling /etc/fstab swaps: swapon: /dev/mapping/vg_knox-lv_swap: read swap header failed: invalid argument I have 1 disk - it has 2 partitions - one an 83 type with a file system in it, holds the kernel, mounts at /boot.
The second partition is an 8e type contains a volume group logically split between lv_root and lv_swap and physically located on sda2. As I understand it, the system is having trouble processing the commands for lv_swap. I am tempted to mess with these commands, but don't have enough know how to do so and am short on the time required to learn enough to master this subject.
When I click on the software centre and Synaptic package manager will not launch and gives me the below error message or the dial spins and then nothing happens.
E: Type 'src' is not known on line 1 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ubuntu-wine-ppa-maverick.list E: The list of sources could not be read. Go to the repository dialog to correct the problem. E: _cache->open() failed, please report.
I need to know the header file used at 'c' to support openoffice writter at REDHAT4. I plan to write a c++ program for something like spellbee game. so instead of giving a txtfile which has a list of words as a source for the game I decided to use some header file. My assumptions are: Since the redhat4 is written through the "C" language and as well as the openoffice writter which is a supporting package at this os too might have the linker right. At openoffice writter we have the spellcheck feature which might had a source from where it checks the words whenever we type something at openoffice writer. So is it possible to use those header file or linkage source at my c++ spellbee game program instead off creating the list about few bunch of words.
whenever I tried to boot into V1 in the following, it hang.
# uname -a Linux tadpole 2.6.32.12-0.7.1.1381.1.PTF-default #1 SMP 2010-05-20 11:14:20 +0200 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux # cat /etc/*release*

After using yast2 and install "xen" hypervisor, the bootloader show "V1" as label for Xen kernel, if I choose to boot into V1, it will just hang with very little message on screen:

I'm trying to track down a problem with the Ubuntu Software Centre. How do I launch it from the command line? or is there any command which would list any errors in the software centre package?
When ever i try to open a document or even just a blank page with openoffice I get this message from the automatic bug reporting tool

I installed Debian 5.03 Lenny successfully on my machine. I got this error during boot: ACPI : invalid PBLK length [5]. After that the Operating System boots properly and starts normally. What does this error statement mean? Is it safe to work with this installation despite this error?
Trying simply to insert into table. Have succeeded in doing this but now want to correct user use of invalid characters. If I'm understanding correctly, Real-escape-string seems to correct these, so I've been trying to figure out how to use it. A short, test code version gives me a syntax error at INSERT VALUES, which--because it still has the single quotes in the text--tells me the real-escape-string didn't work. The code below gives me a parseing error with invalid $END at </body>.
Insert Error: You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ' VALUES (UTC_TIMESTAMP,'What's happen' bra?')' at line 1 Parse error: syntax error, unexpected $end in /home/powere15/public_html/DB/exercises_insert_record.php on line 94 <html><head><title>Exercise Catalog Insert Record</title></head> <body> <? /* Change db and connect values if using online */ [Code]....
I'm trying to install a language-pack for my OpenOffice, but there seems to be a dependency-problem. Maybe someone has a suggestion. FC12, x64 OOo.x64 3.1.1
I have an nfs share that mounts automatically when kde starts.
Code:
wendy@DellNB:~$ cat .kde/Autostart/mountNAS.sh #!/bin/bash mount ~/TestShare #echo "NAS Mounted"
[code]...
Gimp works fine editing and saving photos from/to the nfs share. kWrite can do its thing and read/create files on the NAS. Files I create with vim are visible and editable under windows. OpenOffice however, when I try an open a file I get "file is locked by unknown user." I open as copy and try saving to the share with a different name... No Dice, error saving to share the file is created on the share but it is empty. I did some reading and found a post that said to comment a line from a file called soffice, which I cannot find.
Bottom Line: Dvd Drive died in my toshiba laptop and it was replaced (not before tech for some reason reformatted the Win7 partition... which was 100% un-needed, but thats beside the point now. I redid win7 (the tech installed vista) and am TRYING to "redo grub". Facts: The Slackware AND Ubuntu Partitions ARE STILL THERE and when i use SuperGrub Boot CD (which doesn't restore my grub by itself) to boot into slackware, i can see ALL THE CONTENT of both Linuxes still there including grub on ubuntu partition
(Tri-Boot: Ubuntu, Slackware, and WIn7) I had it working for two years or so, SO i know this "setup" works fine. I am A) Trying to do this as simply as possible. B) Trying to avoid the need to download a 800MB ISO (as seen for this issue on this forum) and trying not to have to reformat Ubuntu Partition (though I have the .Debs I have downloaded for it backed up ... all 1.7GB of them) I have /dev/sda1 as win7, /dev/sda2 as Slack and /dev/sda3 as Ubuntu (which contains Grub Legacy).. Every command I do seems to result in an error like "invalid command" or "invalid Execution format " (i think that second one is right) type errors. I compiled (awhile back) a few kernels for Slackware, but feel goofy that I cant figure what i this out (what i thought was going to be a "2 minute" fix)
I tried to update the header files manually in the include folder, because I thought that I needed to have windows.h etc, but now nothing compiles and I get a good 80 errors for even hello world. I have tried removing g++ and all related packages, deleting the header files folder and reinstalling, but it reinstalls the broken files. Any way of restoring the originals without reinstalling ubuntu?
10.10 x64> Trying to hibernate my notebook using a swap file i get "swap header not found". Is hibernation incompatible with a swap file? or is something else going on here? why would hibernation be incompatible with a swap file?
I am new to linux. I want to use a header file asm/msr.h. But the /usr/include does not contain the header file that I want. Can I just copy the whole asm directory into the directory /usr/include, and overwrite the old one?
So today 2.6.31.17 came. to the b1tch of a cat sleeping on the keyboard, I was forced to a restart before I wanted.
Anyway why does each have have entries for : linux-headers-2.6.31.17 linux-headers-2.6.31.17-generic

How do I know which one I should use from the choice of 3 for the current kernelAnd if I understand which one to use, can I delete the others from the same imageAlso, in start-up manager I have choice of 4 from the drop down list?
I want to make g++ find a bunch of header files in a very specific folder, that is not in any path without having to type out the -I command over and over each time I use a new command. any idea to make it automatically look for the headers in that folder. (please don't respond "move them to another folder where it already looks").
The latest update installed a new linux header 2.6.35-23. The older version 2.6.35-22 also appears in grub. What would be the sense in keeping them both? And if not required how do I remove the older version from grub? I tried: "sudo update-grub" which changed nothing.
I'm runing UBUNTU 11.04 and new to UBUNTU and LINUX. Everything was working fine for me, but somehow Synaptic Pakage Manager and Software Center are now messed up.When I try to open Synaptic I get this error message:
Code:
E: Encountered a section with no Package: header E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/downloadue.info_repo_dists_natty_all_binary-amd64_Packages E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.

I can open the Software Center but it hangs when I click on any of the options or try to do a search.
After getting everything running nicely on 10.10 (after dozens of installs - long story, partially raid problem, partially noob, partially partitioning and Windows), I'm stuck with an unbootable 10.10.I selected all the "important security updates" when the update manager told me I needed to update everything. Upon rebooting, and picking ubuntu in grub, I get:
Error: unknown command 'record fail'Error: cannot read the Linux header Error: you need to load the kernel first Not exactly sure why at this point. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I can probably get in either through a 10.04 version that I have on another HDD, or through the livecd.
Note: if it's important, I did not elect to install the ATI proprietary drivers, and this is also the first update that I've done after installing medibuntu - a few boot cycles in between, so I don't think it's related.
When I select Ubuntu from the booting option. A black screen appears with a cursor at the top left of the screen. It appears for few seconds. How canI remove this to make my booting fast?
I just configured alpine to read newsgroups, and I subscribed to comp.lang.c. Upon opening the folder, alpine downloaded 89,463 messages and it seems like I have no control over this. Does anyone know of a maximum header download option in alpine?
I am running VMware inside windows 7 64bit.I have installed ubuntu 2.8 ultimate edition on a 20gb partition and used 1gb of ram....everything is updated etc and running good. I checked in the VMware tools bar the entity tab,and says tools is not installed.
So when i run the install everything goes well untill it reaches the point where it says "What is the location of the directory of C header files that match your running kernel?
I have tried everything, different tutorials, installed a build package etc and it still asks for the directory. here is the uname r output : uname r : 2.6.35-24-generic
I have an error message that I do not understand nor know how to resolve:
E: encountered a section with no Package:header E: Problem with MergeList/var/lib/apt/lists/archive.canonical.com_ubuntu_dists_natty_partner_b inary-i386_Packages E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened. E: _cache>open() failed, please report.
I hope this is simple for some of you!!! I do not have a clue what this means, I'm pathetic.
