Ubuntu :: Installing Windows XP - NTSRP Missing
Mar 26, 2010
I have run into another situation where I need windows to run a program, The software that I am trying to use is Taxact. I have used this software for many years "BUT" I guess it just doesn't like my ubuntu 9.04. I have a 500gb hard drive installed that is empty and I thought I could just load the windows program onto that drive but I am getting a message NTSRP missing? I think thats what it said. What do I need to do to load this program onto this hard drive?

So I have a single hard drive with two partitions, and I am trying to install a dual boot of Windows XP and Ubuntu. However, I am having an issue installing the Windows XP component.
I keep getting an error along the lines of a missing/corrupt hal.dll after the first restart in the install. This has happened every time I tried to install windows XP, from several different discs, all of which I have confirmed to work on another computer.
I have tried several things for fixing this, from repairing the MBR and boot.ini to replacing hal.dll from hal.dl_, and nothing works. However, Ubuntu 10.04 installs and boots properly.
What I can do to get Windows to install properly?

Installing from sources was always complicated to me, but biggest problem is installing when some strange dependencies are "missing". Let's do it on example - I am sure it will benefit lots of users.I have a unmodified ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic) on 64 bir architecture. I download latest Grisbi sources from official web page.I didn't modify any paths to system variables...and it's usually problem with glib or gtk with all other sources I try to install.
1) Could someone help me in this particular case with missing dependencies please?
2) What every User should do when trying to install from source and some libraries are missing? How to find them? How to install them ?

I backed everything up and did a complete re-install of the system to 10.10. I had a widget layer with compiz before I did this and now it is not even an option in the preferences. Am I missing something?
I was running 10.10 before as well and it was there.

Ive been trying to install gparted (from source) but configure fails with the error
Code:
Which is odd because it looks like libuuid is installed, i think its installed as part of e2fsprogs which is installed (according to synaptic). Does anyone know how i might resolve this? or is it safe to compile anyway?
As a side question, i was going to install with synaptic, but the version of gparted there was 0.6.2 while the version on the website was 0.8.0. i tried apt-get update and apt-get upgrade but the package manager version was always 0.6.2. is it usual for the package manager version to be out of step like this, or is there something else i could have done to update it?

When I write the command "sudo apt-get install dialog". I get this:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package dialog is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
E: Package dialog has no installation candidate

I am running Lucid 64bit on my laptop and been trying to install a canon printer driver LBP3200 on it. There are some comprehensive tutorials that I have been following and they worked on my desktop. However the last thing I have to do is
Code:
sudo update-rc.d ccpd defaults 50
which gives me the error
Code:
update-rc.d: warning: /etc/init.d/ccpd missing LSB information
update-rc.d: see [URL]
System start/stop links for /etc/init.d/ccpd already exist.
I checked in /etc and I do not have the rc.d dir! I have rc0.d through to rc6.d and rcS.d dir, but no rc.d one. Is this normal? and if so how can I get the correct file to start/stop the ccpd daemon for the printer? At the moment the print command brings up the printer icon for about ten seconds and then it disappears and nothing happens.

I am keen to start using Ubuntu and have installed it on one of 4 partitions on my new 1 TB external HD. I got to the reboot stage where I was expecting a new boot screen where I could decide to use either XP or Ubuntu. But there is no mention of Ubuntu just XP and the volume I installed Ubuntu on has disappeared. I can find the other 3 volumes on My Computer.

When trying to get wine I do got this error.
Missing Dependency: kernel >= 2.6.29.1-52.fc11 is needed by package libdrm-2.4.11-2.fc11.i586 (updates)
As I understand I must update my kernel before I can move on. How do I do that? I would want a RPM package if that's available.

I recently switched from Windows to Linux (using Fedora 13 at the moment). I managed to get most things working, but there is one last thing that I'd love to get working: amBX (more info: here). After some searching I found a few guides on how to install it (like this guide: link) I know that one is for Ubuntu, but I can't find any for Fedora, so I used that one as a general guideline. This guide (and the others that I found) require installing Boblight (website here). Compiling Boblight requires several dependencies, but I can only get two of the required dependencies. I used the following code to install the dependencies:
Code:
sudo yum install gcc libusb-dev ruby ruby-dev libportaudio-dev libavdevice-dev libswscale-dev libavformat-dev libavcodec-dev libxrender-dev libsdl1.2-dev libc6-dev-i386 libx11-dev
This returned the following:
Code:
Loaded plugins: presto, refresh-packagekit
code....

I'm trying to install the nautilus-dropbox plugin for dropbox on my CentOS 5.5; while configuring, there is the following error message:
checking pkg-config is at least version 0.9.0... yes
checking for NAUTILUS... yes
checking for GLIB... yes
checking for python... /usr/bin/python
[code]....
But I think I have already installed pygtk2, as shown by yum:
Installed Packages
pygtk2.x86_64 2.10.1-12.el5 installed
pygtk2-codegen.x86_64 2.10.1-12.el5 installed
[code]....
So does the error message means that it requires pygtk rather than pygtk2?

As a premise let me say I'm a debian guy so I'm not really an expert on every aspect of how Centos work and if the following questioms seem dumb, I'm sorry :D What I have to for a school project is to use Xen. After two days of cursing I've managed to install it correctly and so I've installed a domU Centos 5.5.
Now I need to install sysbench on this domU and run some tests. I've found this guide: [URL].. But I can't find some commands. Basically this is what I have to do
# tar -xvzf sysbench-0.4.12.tar.gz
# cd sysbench-0.4.12
# libtoolize --force --copy
# ./autogen.sh
# ./configure
# make
# make install
the problem is it doens't find libtoolize. I've tried to search it with 'yum search" but with no luck.Where can I find this package? Or is it a command include in some other package? In that case how can I solve this problem? Next problem is autogen.sh. It says I don't have aclocal but automake in installed as a package.

I was trying to follow this guide [url] and the only library that installed correctly was the last one, the 64 bit one.
When i type yum install (one of the above libraries) it comes back and says that it is already present which cannot be correct since the install program asks for them.

Second problem is that I have no root access so I cannot install rpm package with libavutil50.so. Does anybody knows how can I manage this? Is it possible to install somehow libavutil50.so in my /home folder, that Blender will have an access to this library ?

I just installed Ubuntu 11.04 (gnome flavor ) on my notebook.Everything installed fine except that I'm seeing three problems I'm hoping someone can help me with (or point me in the right direction).
1. When I open any window (gcalc or Firefox for example), the 3 little buttons which are used to maximize, close, etc...) are missing. So basically in order to exit any app, I have to do it through the application rather than clicking the close button. If you go to Themes, you can see what I'm talking about. For example, the theme 'ClearLook' show's the buttons. If I choose this, these buttons are not there.Any ideas why this is happening or how I can fix it?
2. When I open any application, it positions itself in the upper left hand corner of my screen. The menu of the application is tucked under the Gnome menu bar, so basically to use any application requires me to move it first.so I can get to the app menu.
3. When I open any application, I'm unable to position the mouse such that I can resize the window. Its like the mouse cursor can't find the the fine line where it changes so that I can grab the screen to increase or decrease it.

In virtualBox I'm running Edubuntu 11.04. Everything worked fine until a couple of days ago, when the top section, containing the close, minimise and maximise buttons, of all windows vanished and don't appear when I re-open them . At the recommendation of TL I ran
Code:
metacity --replace
Which restored the tops while I ran the command but the command never finished and if I stopped the command I lost the tops. Also at TL's recommendation I also ran
Code:
compiz --replace
but that didn't do anything. How to restore bar permanently.

The problem is that its now telling me there's not enough space on the hard drive.why does the program not remove everything when I try to uninstall?if I install a program and then remove it , I should and up with the same amount of free hard drive space shouldn't I?
