Ubuntu Networking :: Internet Input Wouldn't Work
Jan 20, 2011I'm running 10.10 on two different laptops at home, via an Apple Airport Express. I wanted to use audiopulse to stream my music, o I installed that, and the Airport express utility for windows using Wine.I got everything working swimmingly, then my internet input wouldn't work. I can, say, upload from Transmission, but not use browsers or download anything. In a stupid fit of panic, I uninstalled everything I had set up, to see if that would help, and reset all I could. Still nothing, and now my sound is gone.

Nov 4, 2010- Im using 3 different USB keys, a 1gb, another 1gb, and a 4gb, the 4gb being the newest, and one of the 1gb might be early usb2.0.
- My motherboard has options in the bios for both USB HDD and FDD, and even USB ZIP drives. I set the boot order to USB FDD, then USB HDD, then HDD.
- I am trying to get Damn Small Linux 4.4.9 to work.
- When the screen after the motherboard logo is loading, it recognizes both my USB HDD and the FDD, displaying both names for each, and their capacity. But it just then skips to the dual boot options for my 160GB OS HDD.
- Legacy USB is enabled
- I'm using the actual ports on the mother board, not the front pannel ports.

Ubuntu Installation :: Installing 10.10 From USB - Can't Connect To Internet
Feb 16, 2011Trying to install 10.10 from USB onto my Dell Inspiron mini 10. I am able to boot into the USB, but I cannot connect to the internet - wireslessly or otherwise. When I plug the internet cable directly into the computer that does not work. I had to fidget with some drives to get the Network Manager to work, which it finally did, but it won't connect either - just keeps asking for the password.

1. How do I access SystemTools?
2. Using network manager, I added a connection for Mobile Broadband, and the connection seems to work, but I still cannot connect to the Internet. Note that previously the USB modem works fine in Windows.
Modem: Huawei E1556 from Claro (Caribbean) Machine: Panasonic Toughbook CF30, dual processor. Harddisk has 5 partitions. Windows is on C:, Ubuntu on G: as a wubi file. If anyone can help, I would geatly appreciate it. Please note that currently, I can only access the internet via the Windows partition, which means if I have to download install new package(s) in Ubuntu to get this working, I'm stuck.

Feb 5, 2011I've just installed Ubuntu. My house isn't wired so I use wireless on all my machines to connect to the internet. When I start up Ubuntu, I can connect to my wireless router. After about 3 minutes, I get disconnected. It refuses to reconnect for several minutes. If I disable and reenable networking, I can establish a connection again, but the process is repeated. I'm not really sure what the issue is here. Any guesses? This is a desktop and I'm using a Belkin wireless adapter.

Oct 24, 2009I recently installed Fedora 11 on Sony Vaio laptop and I cannot connect to the internet. I used many different kind of browsers and no luck. I am using wireless it is Broadcom 2200 card and i can tell the driver is installed correctly and it says I am connected to the wireless fine. Strange thing is that when i use software update it downloads them fine which means the internet is there. But I cannot goto any webpage with my browser. I run ifconfig and i can even ping websites without problem. I checked my firewall to see if its blocking my port 80 but it was not blocking.

Jul 11, 2010I've spent a frustrating afternoon trying to install Xubuntu 10.04 x64. I had already installed Win7 Pro 64, and have been attempting to install on a separate hard drive. It wouldn't even boot into Xubuntu install. Figured a bad burn on the Cd so I reburned the image I had down loaded using Ktorrent. It wouldn't boot either. I swapped out the DVD burner. Still no go. Redownloaded using Ktorrent including the torrent. Wouldn't boot into the installer.
I did a fresh burn. Still it wouldn't boot to the installer. I then downloaded Xubuntu again but from a mirror and not using Ktorrent. Good MD5SUM. Burned it again on another computer. Still wouldn't boot into the installer. I burned a copy of Kubuntu 10.04 x64 and it installed with no difficulty. I've installed Xubuntu 10.04 x86 several times on other computers win no difficulty. But I have 8 Gb of RAM on this machine and want to use Xubuntu 64.

Feb 1, 2010I started out with a RAID 0 of 3x 500GB drives. Partitioned to a 200gb Windows 7 install (plus the 100mb partition), a 50gb partition I was going to use for Ubuntu 9.10, and the around 1081GB NTFS storage partition. It wouldn't work, I tried a bunch of things, EasyBCD, ect, rebuilding grub, and everything else... wouldn't work for me. So I gave up, backed up everything and then rebuilt my RAID into to "separate" drives so that I could just change the booting drive depending on the flavour of frustration I was looking for at the time. Installed W7 back, installed Ub9.10 back. Windows loaded through it's drive fine. Ubuntu will not freaking load. So I ran a script I found laying around on one of the many.... MANY posts I read and will attach the outcome.

Feb 18, 2010I tried to boot from CD for demo mode (9.10) but my XP machine wouldn't do it. I opened CD from My Computer and a selection window opened. Choices were to reboot to demo, Install to Windows or Help with Boot. I selected Help with Boot and a boot program was downloaded and installed (I think to drive C: (XP)). When I restarted, a new boot window opened giving me a choice to boot to XP or Ubuntu (9.10) and I chose Ubuntu. Instead of opening for demo it went to full install and I aborted the procedure, went to add/remove programs and uninstalled Ubuntu. Now when I restart I still get the boot selection window, Any suggestions as how to remove the boot program? Can't find it.

Apr 26, 2011I downloaded Ubuntu 10.10 onto my external hard drive yesterday for use in an dead laptop. Hard drive on the laptop is dead and has no operating system. Downloaded the iso for 10.10, as well as the Universal USB Installer. Everything went well, and Ubuntu started up and loaded onto the laptop. I was so thrilled to have my old laptop working again! (it's much better than the netbook I'm on right now)
Restarted Ubuntu after creating a partition on my external hard drive, and it wouldn't restart. So, I went back to my netbook and reformatted the hard drive to factory specs, and started the process over again. Now, when I try to boot the old laptop from the hard drive I get a message that says, "Multiple Active Partitions" and it won't boot from the external hard drive.

Jan 1, 2016During the installation of Debian ( debian-8.2.0-amd64-CD-1.iso ) I couldn't connect to any mirror probably because the internet wasn't configured.
Thus, after the basic installation I wasn't able to install any packages ( trying to install sudo as root prompted me to insert the media disc - the USB drive I used wasn't detected going in an infinite loop ). Judging by the fact that I don't have a window manager installed.

Dec 13, 2010I've been looking through the Debian wiki, searching past topics in the forum, and generally googling, but all to no avail. I'm unable to connect to the internet through any wireless connections, nor through an ethernet cable. I installed the latest weekly image of Debian squeeze. After installation, I found myself on the command line. I installed gnome with
apt-get install gnome-desktop-environment I also tried installing gnome-applets, gnome-netstatus-applet, and gnome-nettool, but I guess they were already installed. When I open System > Administration > Network in Gnome, there's no connections tab in the Network Settings application.

I'm one of those people migrating from Ubuntu and in Ubuntu I had to add a 'rfkill -unblock all' command to my rc.local file for this laptop. Not sure if that's relevant, but thought more info couldn't hurt.

Aug 4, 2011Just curious if there is any sort of issues with Ubuntu and JBOD assignments. I had my 2 500GB hdd's as JBOD through my mobo BIOS/RAID Config and it didn't like it. It installed just fine and showed the hard drives separately. I really didn't think anything of it so I continued on.After the install completed successfully, and I rebooted the system, it came to a blank screen with a blinking cursor and wouldn't continue on. So I tried restarting a few times, no luck. Finally I was like "okay screw this, going to install with no RAID setup or JBOD setup." (had RAID issues last night. rabble rabble) Removed RAID configurations and BAM started right up..S. Semi-new to Linux/Ubuntu. Know the basics and what not, just not some of the more advanced stuff.Edit: Okay, so I restarted my computer and removed my USB drive (which I had installed Ubuntu from) and it didn't boot. So it was NOT an issue with JBOD. Guess I'll look for a resolution for that, though.

I initially can connect to the internet as per normal and use any internet application. But after a period of time, sometimes just minutes, sometimes hours, even though the icon says connected, I cant update pages or send emails etc because there is no actual connection. My Physical connection is good I know - My Ubuntu laptop and Windows gamming PC connect fine during this period. So
Does this suggest an intermittent hardware fault or is there some thing in Ubuntu I can check to make sure that it is setup correctly and nothing has been corrupted? I am a lay PC person - I dont really want to be command prompting - Plug & Play and Point & Click is my limit.
