I been trying to update, but seems to open then close rally fast the same for package manager. So I try to update in terminal and the on'y thing comes up is ree... 50%. I have never seen that the many years using Ubuntu.
View 2 RepliesThis happened completely randomly. One day, my synaptic and update manager is working fine and the next day, I open one of them and get a error window that doesn't say anything (no details on the error). So, i tried the terminal, sudo apt-get update, and this message shows:

I just installed brother DCP-350c drivers from here
When I finished I tried to install a scanner driver from brother.
My package manager is broken.

I run Ubuntu 10.04 and everything worked fine until I downloaded bunch of games and programs using synaptic and it stopped working. When I try to install anything it tells me to check my internet connetction which i know works just fine, it says that cannot connect to [my_ip]:8080 and I manually opened the port and nothing, i disabled the firewall and have no proxy running, it also gives me the info that connection(111:refused) What do I do?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm using 'Adobe Flash plug-in 10.3.183.4ubuntu0.11.04.1', installed from the package repos on kubuntu, and since the last update, it has broken all flash functionality in both rekonq and firefox.I have tried removing and reinstalling the package multiple times, both with and without the browsers open. Can anyone suggest a way to restoring functionality?

When I click on 'Install Updates' it appears to go through the process, and then presents me with the same 'waiting to install' window again - and again, and again - in fact as many times as I care to click the 'Install Updates' button. No error messages appear. The 'Settings' button produces the same apparent process as the 'Install Updates' button, but doesn't present me with any other screen.
I've tried all the solutions I could find on these forums and nothing works. The sudo suggestions for Terminal usually produce error codes. adjusting a line in the 'hosts' file. When I tried this I was presented with the obstacle of not having access to the read-only file, and no matter how much I searched I couldn't find how to gain access . While investigating all these possible solutions, I was directed in turn to the Software Sources and Synaptic Package Manager applications, but when I attempted to start them, 'Starting Administrative Application' appeared briefly on the taskbar - and then disappeared!

I am just starting to use fedora as I'm on compsoc committee at my uni, and need to be able to use the server which runs it. Am trying to get a mumble server running (just on my laptop with a fedora 14 install) And am really struggling, can't get the stuff manually and do it, as it says it depends on some other packages which I can't find in the package manager, and if I just use the murmur package in the manager, then it doesn't seem to install, and even if it does, if I try to run it, it says the database is not writeable

I've been a Gentoo user for several years now, but the maintenance costs (time) of keeping a Gentoo system up-to-date are getting to be a bit much. I've heard good things about Fedora.I have some questions:
1. How does the package manager work? Do I need repository URLs?
2. How does support for patented codecs work?
3. Is this a rolling release system?
When I try to open Synaptic Package Manager and update-manager it gives me the following error message:

How to solve this error because my system cannot update or install any new application.
My awn manager for the awn dock does not seem to want to open. I have tried to open it so I can configure my awn dock to work properly but it does not seem to want to co-operate. Should I uninstall and reinstall it or what?

I've installed the GNOME Update Manager (0.68-debian.7) from the official Debian package archive. However, after checking for new packages and clicking "Install the updates", the update manager asks for rights and then just checks for new updates again. Selecting different packages didn't help either, it just checks for updates again and doesn't update anything. Has anyone experienced the same problem

View 6 Replies View RelatedI added a repo from launchpad to install latest Network Manager and then installed it (version 0.8). Then I decided to rollback to Karmic's version (since 0.8 doesn't work) but failed: I removed the repo from sources.list
Then apt-get udpate
Then apt-get clean
Then apt-get install network-manager...
But still 0.8 version is downloaded and installed! How can I restore Karmic's version?

Ive been using linux for a few months now and every now and again i come accross a program that doesnt have a rpm package but says that it can be installed on Fedora using source. I'm familiar with build essentials and the following commands:-
tar xzvf package.tar.gz
cd package
./configure
make
make install
but from what i have read fedora uses a differnet compiler. I'm trying to install Buddi budget manager and the ./configure command doesnt work, which im guessing is because it doesnt have a configure file? Can anyone confirm how to compile from source and whether there are any tutorials specific to fedora.
Have a new Dell Vostro A90 that came with 8.04 and I have installed 9.10 from a CD that was mailed to me. I can connect to the internet with a wired connection, but I cannot connect wirelessly. When I've tried to install the broadcom driver by going to Synaptic Package Manager and hitting reload, I get a message that 1 of 15 packages is downloading, but nothing downloads and I get a failed message for each of the jobs. Any clues as to how to proceed from here? I am very new to Ubuntu.
