View 4 RepliesI have upgraded my laptop to 10.04 while having my usb-keyboard plugged in.f I boot the laptop without a plugged in keyboard, the laptop keyboard is not working. It starts working as soon as I plug a usb-keyboard in though.Quite annoying if I take my laptop with me and the first thing after booting is to find a usb-keyboard to plug in Does anyone know where can I reconfigure this? [edit]I just found out, that the laptop keyboar seems to be in numlock mode... meaning that the keys [j,k,l] is mapped to [1,2,3] etc
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was trying to install Ubuntu 10.04 (desktop) on my old PC. But it keeps stopping after I selected keyboard(never leaves this screen).
What can I do? The PC is able to run XP, but I hoped that I could speed up things a bit by using Ubuntu.
I have an AMD Athlon 3200+ 64 and I want to install a dual boot Win7/Xubuntu system. When I try to install Xubuntu 64 bit, but the also the 32 bit version and both Kubuntu versions, the installation stops after the keyboard layout screen. The install completely hangs (no cd or other noticeable activity on the computer) and I have to do a hard reboot to get out of it. I've been looking for a solution and found that the options noapic and/or nolapic in the installer F6 menu might solve this problem, unfortunately they didn't work for me. I've done the CD integrety and memory checks, but no errors were found. I'm pretty lost from here.
I also read installing from the alternative CD might work, but I'm not sure what to expect from this textual installation. If it's only a command-line installer I don't think I will be able to do much with it as I haven't yet been able to find a tutorial on how to use it. Does anyone konw where I can find instructions?
Actually, thats a lie. It works on the initial screen (where you can select how you want to install via command line or text based etc etc). But whatever option i select from there it loses the keyboard. The first screen (asking for keyboard layout) just sits there on english but i am unable to advance. Its as if my keyboard is unplugged (has LED backlights and they turn off as soon as it hits this screen so im guessing its USB driver related).I wanted the alternate to do drive encryption but it doesnt seem to want to know. Normal CD works fine btw.

Computer: Toshiba Satellite Pro L510 laptop, 10.10.This has always happened but I have gotten around it by time-out and putting my menu.list in order. When I first boot the machine (switch on for the day from computer being off) I get to the grub options to select a kernel and I have no keyboard. No up/down arrows so have to go with the kernel on top of the list (not always desirable).
When I get to the log-in screen if I hit restart and go back to the grub screen I have a keyboard and can select any kernel. If I login to the kernel I have full keyboard, no problem. If I then restart, I have keyboard at the grub list.
Nutshell: It is only when starting the computer fresh that the keyboard is dead at grub menu (and then only). Any time after that, once the computer has been switched on, if I restart I have keyboard at grub menu and can select different kernels. (Of course, if I switch the computer off and back on again, no keyboard ...)
I just upgraded my 9.10 x64 Server to 10.04 using the standard Update Manager (I have the GNOME desktop installed). The installation went very smoothly, no errors or problems that I noticed. However, after reboot I get the main log in screen, but I can't enter my password because the keyboard seems to be ignored. The mouse is fine, no problems there. I looked at the various keyboard possibilities, and it has choosen the basic "USA" keyboard. It doesn't matter which keyboard type I choose though, it still fails to respond to any keyboard keypress. To be clear, there were no issues with the keyboard before the upgrade. I don't know where to start.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have solved with this forums help most of my problems after upgrade. I have one that seems to remain and I am unable to solve. My function and main qwerty keys work on my wireless usb logitech keyboard. My number pad does not. I have gone thru the keyboard on the system menu. I have chosen my keyboard as it was listed. I have tried most suggestions but nothing will bring it back.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have done a clean install of Ubuntu 10.04 on my laptop. However I don't like Evolution mail client and installed Thunderbird from the repositories. It installed fine and comes up with the wizard to fill account details in but for some reason you can't input anything from the keyboard - it seems greyed out. I tried uninstalling and re-installing but it's still the same. Everything else is fine and working.
View 9 Replies View RelatedAfter upgrading to 10.4 from 9.8, my keyboard wouldn't work on the startup menu, I then went to the console and it worked perfectly. I'm new to Linux so don't know a lot about it. I also tried to reinstall it using:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh -a
But it always stops and return "This page is not dpkg-info anymore, but GNU install info
See the main page for ginstall-info for command line arguments:
install-info:No dir file specified; try --help for more information."
I just upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04 and my wireless USB keyboard stopped working. Any ideas how to fix/debug this? I get no response at all (at GRUB or login, or after login). Previously in 9.10 I could use it from the login screen but not at GRUB. It's a Logicool Wireless USB keyboard. I CAN use a wireless USB mouse.

When I type the name using this keyboard nothing happens. The mouse (connected through USB) works fine however. Does Xubuntu (or other Ubuntu) based computers have a known issue with this type of keyboards? I am sure the keyboard works fine and infact the problem happened when using two different keyboards.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently updated from 8.10 to 10.4 by updating to 9.04 & 9.10 first. My problem is, everything seems to be booting normally but once the splash screen loads, it freezes and the keyboard and mouse both stop working. After the splash screen hangs for several minutes, the screen goes black. I am wondering if there is something I can do during the boot sequence to affect the process or if I could do something with a burnt copy of 10.4.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using a Toshiba Tecra Laptop through a dock station with attached keyboard, mouse and display. I mainly use windows but also practice with ubuntu. After update to 11.04 I cannot select which system starts with the external keyboard and I must open the laptop and use its keyboard only for this task, once started everything works as usual.
As a partial solution I've tried to edit /boot/grub/menu.lst and force windows as default system. But on boot grub still shows Linux (the first line) as preferred system. Do you now what's wrong?
By the way, now I find a lot of files in /boot/grub. If I'm not wrong they weren't there with 10.10, do you know their purpose?
After upgrading to 11.04 everything went fine for almost 6 weeks. Now the keyboard is no longer detected. It happened overnight, without any updates or changes. Mouse is working. (Partial upgrade from 10.10, desktop computer)

My mouse is also wired. Do I need to install drivers for them? They're both plug and play.My system is... View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install slackware 32 bit 13.1.After loading kernel it asks for keyboard configuration, but keyboard (usb wireless) doesn't work.
Keyboard works on the old 13.0 installation, on bios and also in the boot options of 13.1 installation cd.
I've tried removing legacy usb support and changing usb2.0 speed from high to full. Nothing changed.
Anybody with this strange problem? (kernel of setup seems also to detect it correctly as a trust keyboard).
When I use the down arrow on my new keyboard it also does and enter key as well. When I use the left and right arrow keys and hold them it doesn't keep going. It just clicks once and I have to pressing it over and over again. Any one know the correct settings to setup my keyboard? It's a Logitech Illuminated Keyboard.
