I have the Ubuntu Netbook CD. I tried installing Ubuntu by launching Wubi.exe. But nothing seems to be happening. I opened task manager and checked whether the process wubi.exe is starting. It is indeed starting up, but goes off in a few seconds.
I downloaded the wubi.exe again and tried, but without any success.
Any clues?
After clicking on wubi.exe nothing happens. Wubi does not start at all.Windows XP, SP3.

I have moved the folder c: ubuntu (to saved my data) uninstall Ubuntu and reinstall it still nothing. I have the grub but when I select Ubuntu I have the following error message:

View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed Ubuntu 10.04 with WUBI. In the setup wizard in windows, I selected the D partition to install Ubuntu on. It extracted the files, and after a reboot, and selecting Ubuntu, the Ubuntu setup wizzard appeared. After it was done, it rebooted. I selected Ubuntu, and this appeared on my screen:

And there it stucks! I tried editing C:oot.ini, to let it select the ubuntu files.

I have very little space on my system partition (C:) So, I installed it on D:. I'm using Windows XP Professional SP2.

If not, is there a resource that will assist me in moving my data, settings, keyring (and programs if possible) from the Wubi install to a clean install on a new partition?
I'm planning for a transition from Lucid 10.04 Wubi to a dedicated partition for Lucid Studio 10.04, but have been using Wubi for emails, XAMPP web development, etc.
I switched to Ubuntu about a month ago and have been loving every bit of it so far Today, I decided it was time to switch from having ubuntu installed within windows (through wubi) into creating a separate partition for itself.
I tried UN-installing using the wubi-uninstaller file but that did not work. Tried removing from the Add/Remove box in Windows 7 but neither wubi nor ubuntu were listed. SO I ended up manually deleting ubuntu from the C: and then using EasyBCD to remove Ubuntu from the boot menu. It may all sound great but I noticed that my hard disk is missing around 25GB of space. I even re-installed windows 7 but that hasn't changed this. It may well be that my hard disk is just old (~2 years) but I think it maybe because of an incorrect UN-install of wubi. Having read through forum posts around the interwebs all evening, this seems to be a problem that a few people share.
ps: I intend on installing Ubuntu again once this hard disk issue is resolved!
I want to upgrade Ubuntu 10.10 installed through Wubi to 11.04. Now, Windows doesn't work. I can't upgrade Ubuntu by it because it is impossible to download files. Can I upgrade it without connecting Ubuntu to the Internet and starting Windows?
View 5 Replies View Relatedi installed ubuntu desktop 11.04 on my acer aspire one 751h and found that the wifi didnt work. the netbook remix was the same so i went through all the previous releases up until 8.0.4.4 which worked fine on the live cd. so i tried to install but the installer didnt see my main hard drives only the usb i was using to install. so i tried using wubi installer which only left me with this screen when i tried to load up ubuntu.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI installed the 10.04 64 bit beta after 9.10 went down on me AGAIN, and when I booted up and got to the login screen I got the ubuntu chimes then the screen went black, the three lights on my keyboard, numlock etc, started flashing every second, and the chimes continued every second. Machine was completely unresponsive, cntrl+alt+del or cntrl+alt+backspace did nothing. Any ideas or how do I report this officially like?

I use the host for simple things such as web browsing, skype, chat, etc. All things that are fantastically available on Ubuntu which I in many ways prefer. So this has been begging the question for a while: why even use Windows on the host, seems like a Linux host would use less resources (untested) and allow my Windows VMs to run better while allowing me to do my non-development stuff in an interface I prefer.
So easiest way to do this - I downloaded wubi and installed Ubuntu. I installed in it Virtualbox, and then start add and start my VM to get this message: Failed to open a session for the virtual machine VS2010, Could not open the medium '/host/Users/George Mauer/Virtualbox VMs/VS2010/C:/Users/George Mauer/.VirtualBox/HardDisks/VS2010.vdi; VD: error VERR_FILE_NOT_FOUND opening image file '/host/Users/George Mauer/Virtualbox VMs/VS2010/C:/Users/George Mauer/.VirtualBox/HardDisks/VS2010.vdi; (VERR_FILE_NOT_FOUND).
You see what's going on? With wubi, the windows drive gets mounted at /host/ but virtualbox is for some reason appending an absolute path! I would very much like to use the same exact VM file since it would retain Snapshots and I would be able to use it in either windows or Ubuntu mode. However, even if I try to simply mount the drives into a new VM I get an error: Failed to open the hard disk /host/Users/George Mauer/.VirtualBox/HardDisks/VS2010.vdi. Cannot register the hard disk '/host/Users/George Mauer/.VirtualBox/HardDisks/VS2010.vdi' {guid...} because a hard disk '/host/Users/George Mauer/VirtualBox VMs/VS2010/C:/Users/George Mauer.VirtualBox/HardDisks/VS2010.vdi with UUID {guid...} already exists.
This is especially odd since this worked fine with my recently created Android VM, though this might have something to do with the fact that VirtualBox recently changed their default VM storage locations. Any idea how to fix this? My Linux-fu is weak but I seem to remember from CS class something about symbolic links that might be relevant here?
I just installed fedora on an old laptop. After restarting, the computer just shows me a black screen, it doesn't even show the BIOS screen. If I put a CD with the fedora installation program, it sounds like its reading it, but the screen keeps being black.
Just as background, i thought this laptop had died 4 months ago when I tried to start it and then nothing happened (black screen). Today, I decided to check if it was working before throwing it to the garbage, with the fedora 13 live cd in it, and voila, in entered and I was able to install fedora. But then upon installation of fedora it just shows again the same black screen...can this be a hardware problem?
Will ubuntu studio work with wubi if i download the iso?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm running a P4 system with Dual ATI Radeon 2900HD Graphics cards. When I try to install F11, the graphical interface fails to start and I end up in a text install. I've seen plenty of information on how to fix the problem post install, however I'm not nearly advanced enough to then continue the installation (the text install does not install much, particularly doesn't install the graphical interface). Is there a way to work around this (IE a more complete text install, or somehow getting it to install in graphical user interface?)
View 2 Replies View Relatedrecently i tried to install for the first time and everything booted up fine but when i got to the post install configuration my mouse and keyboard don't work! after that one time whenever i try to load linux it just sits at the boot screen where the colored bar goes left to right and has fedora text in the bottom right corner. i don't know if this matters or not but i'm dual booting with windows XP also i tried using a live cd of fedora 11 it always boots up to the login however just like above i can't use my mouse or keyboard for that one either.

View 4 Replies View RelatedWubi doesn't let me set the swap file size, so on installation it only creates a swap file of a few hundred megabytes. Because of this, i cannot hibernate my netbook (eeePC 1005HA), which has 2 GB of RAM.
Creating a 2 GB swap file alongside of the original one using the tutorial here did work, but hibernate doesn't seem to work with it. For this reason i thought increasing the original swap's size instead of creating more would be a way to solve my problem.
So yeah I want to transfer my system to the real Ubuntu. Problem is I can't boot into my Wubi Ubuntu cause I lost boot.
View 5 Replies View Relatedi just tried to install Ubuntu 11.04 (x86) on my Dell Inspiron 1520 Laptop (with a Nvidia 8600M GT graphics card) with Wubi. A normal installation try resulted in an unreadable screen after boot (see attachment). I then managed to get the installation going by modifiing the boot options like shown in this HowTo: [URL] After the installation Wubi automatically rebooted the system without any prompt, so that i couldn't install the proper Nvidia drivers (is there a way to prevent wubi from doing that?) like described in the HowTo. After the reboot the graphics were messed up again.
Boot parameters like "text" "single" or vga=xxx didn't work, adding nomodest and nouveau.modset again didn't help either (I think "text" acutally brings up the console, but i just see an unreadable "blacker" screen than normal). Is there an boot option for grub to disable all nvidia related drivers and the graphical login manager and just show a text based console? Or force the gfx driver to be the same as in the installation process (which was perfect...native resolution, no graphical errors until the reboot) (i tried xforcevesa without any luck; nosplash and removing quiet/splash does work - the bootup process is readable, but as soon as the login manager starts its messed up again)
I installed Ubuntu using wubi, But I didnt assign much space, probably like 17 gigs or something. My geting a pop up everytime my ubuntu starts up saying i got low disk space, very low disk space, Im runing ubuntu 10.10. How do I add more disk space? How do i make the partition bigger.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm very new to Linux and Ubuntu (about 2 days) and am having a hard time getting Ubuntu to work. I'm not completely sure that I'm posting in the right forum since I have several issues. I can't tell what's causing what.
I'm using the wubi installer for version 10.10 (i386 - 32 bit). I have an AMD 64-bit, but the wubi installer for that only crashes when I try to boot it the very first time. I get a blank screen and my tower is silent. Version 10.04 does the same. Version 10.10 is the only one that gets me somewhere.
So, I installed ndiswrapper and the proper driver for my USB adapter. Now I have 2 main problems:
1). the most relevant to this board is that when I use the update manager to get all 135 updates, I'm prompted to reboot to complete the installation. When I do that, i get the same blank screen and silent tower treatment. Oddly enough however, when I went back to windows, uninstalled ubuntu, then reinstalled it again using wubi, the update manager said that I already updated an hour ago (!?!?.. I assume it's still reading the old files from the previous install attempt). Unfortunately I messed it up anyway trying to fix my second problem...
2). my internet connection fails here and there. I don't know if it's ndiswrapper or the driver or what. Once it fails, it won't reconnect. I have to go into ndiswrapper, delete the current driver and reinstall it. This has happened to me while on the internet (scouring these forums) and while downloading the updates and whenever it feels like it.
Also, the system does freeze up on me here and there as well. Sometimes when I'm using ndiswrapper. Sometimes when I'm authenticating myself. Sometimes in update manager and sometimes in synaptic. Right now it's working. But I haven't updated yet and I'm afraid to try.
I want to put ubuntu on it for daily use and keep windows for games. Have done the wubi process but desktop ubuntu takes forever to boot. Ubuntu Netbook Remix seems like the best idea but I want to do it via wubi so as not to loose windows.
