I'm having a problem updating the cdrom. the error i get is Failed to fetch cdrom://Ubuntu-Netbook 10.04 _Lucid Lynx_ - Release i386 (20100429.4)/dists/lucid/main/binary-i386/Packages.gz Please use apt-cdrom to make this CD-ROM recognized by APT. apt-get update cannot be used to add new CD-ROMs. I tried using apt-cdrom, it tells me the commands and options, which i wrote down for reference, but still that has an error which is, E: Unable to stat the mount point /media/apt/ - stat (2: No such file or directory) W: Failed to mount '/dev/sr0' to '/media/apt/' E: Unable to change to /media/apt/ - chdir (2: No such file or directory) Is there another code to recognize the cdrom? because the help of the command and options list didn't give a code for recognizing the cdrom. Im using ubuntu 10.4lts on my netbook and yes i do have a external rom
I tried to install skype: apt-get install skype but I got the following error: Failed to fetch cdrom:[Debian GNU/Linux 6.0.1a _Squeeze_ - Official i386 DVD Binary-1 20110322-15:11]/pool/main/q/qt4-x11/libqtgui4_4.6.3-4_i386.deb Hash Sum mismatch
when I run synaptic I can open the list of apps. and select but then I apply to download and get "error we failed to fetch etc etc." Seems to be an rpm problem but not sure. ????
Lately when I've tried to update my packages many of them don't update. I get nothing out of the ordinary when using the terminal but when I try to update via the Update manger I get this error message:
Code: Error message: Fetch failed: W:Failed to fetch bzip2:/var/lib/apt/lists/partial/mirror.steadfast.net_debian_dists_testing_main_source_Sources Hash Sum mismatch W:Failed to fetch bzip2:/var/lib/apt/lists/partial/mirror.steadfast.net_debian_dists_testing_main_binary-amd64_Packages Hash Sum mismatch, W:Failed to fetch http://mirror.steadfast.net/debian/dists/testing/updates/main/source/Sources 404 Not Found [IP: 208.100.4.53 80]

I've tried several different mirrors but get the same error with every one. Same result with ftp as well. Yesterday I upgraded to Wheezy and every package successfully upgraded, but today the problem started again.
Right now I'm trying to get MythTV to bring in my channels. I can see all the channels when I use the Watch TV feature on the frontend, but in the backend I can't get it to work.
In the input COnnections>Television section, I am set up for Schedules Direct. My "Scan for Channels" button is disabled, so I can't use that. However, the "Fetch Channels" button, though enabled does nothing. It doesn't depress when I select it or anything. I can't figure out why. I know my username and password are entered correctly, so I'm drawing a blank.
My video source setup is also set with SD.
I have an Analog V4L capture card selected in the capture cards section. It's a AVI TV Wonder Pro (an old card, but free). It seems to be set up correctly since I can "Watch TV" with it.
In the channel editor, I also do not have the option to do a channel scan. It skips right over that button.
Fail to fetch 2 ppa.launchpad.net addresses and another cause the upgrade to terminate. The error messages suggest some type of network error. Should I wait a week and try the upgrade again?
Problem with my upgrade from 10.10 to 11.04. I got the update manager to show the upgrade to 11.04 button - proceeded. It downloaded 1300 files or there abouts then did a failed to fetch http://76.73.4.58/ubuntu/pool/main/g/. I took a screen shot which left the rest out - also did a select all - copy - no paste occurred. - re-obtained. So I'm thinking that the missing files are missing on this server and my current thought is that I will go to another server and try downloading from that one. BTW did the same upgrade from 10.04 to 10.10 to be able to upgrade to 11.04 that one worked well I didn't know there was a 10.10 upgrade since I got here; there are a few problems that went away.. This upgrade only showed after changing my status to normal from long term.

When I recently attempted to install Wine onto my computer from the Software Center, after the download bar had filled completely, I received the following error.

I'm trying to upgrade my 9.10 desktop to 10.04, and it is failing to fetch the following two packages:

I've made sure everything is patched current prior to the upgrade and have tried clearing out the contents of /var/cache/apt/archives/partial first as well to no avail.
I'm trying to upgrade everything on this computer to the release Lucid, and am getting errors retrieving some files, here's a sample of one of the errors, (the rest are very similar)
W: Failed to fetch [URL] 404 Not Found [IP: 91.189.88.31 80]
9.04 has not been updating and is giving these messages. I'm unable to install updates and new packages. I receive messages such as the following:
W: Failed to fetch [URL] 404 Not Found [IP: 91.189.92.161 80] W: Failed to fetch [URL] 404 Not Found [IP: 91.189.92.161 80] W: Failed to fetch [URL] 404 Not Found [IP: 91.189.92.161 80]
I recently had windows vista taken off my hard drive and my partitions realigned to create more storage space on my hard drive. I don't now if this is related. I was able to install upgrades previously.
I'm running 9.04 and trying to use the update manager. On checking for updates, I get the error message:W: Failed to fetch http://mirror.uoregon.edu/ubuntu/arc...ty/Release.gpg Could not connect to 69.219.142.196:21 (69.219.142.196). - connect (111 Connection refused)W: Failed to fetch http://mirror.uoregon.edu/ubuntu/arc...tion-en_US.bz2 Could not connect to 69.219.142.196:21 (69.219.142.196). - connect (111 Connection refused)(more...)This used to work, but now it doesn't. I tried selecting all kinds of different sources in the "Software Sources" GUI. And this seemed to change my /etc/sources.list accordingly. But, whatever the hostname given (above mirror.uoregon...), that same IP address is shown 69.219.... huh? I can browse the web, etc fine from this computer
Currently have 9.04 installed. Wanted to upgrade to 9.10. Down loaded and burned alternate CD. The desktop doesn't have internet access. The upgrade failed and generated an error:

Is it possible edit/alter a script to point to correct file and get by this error?
I am having trouble upgrading and updating. When updating the file downloads to 99% and then stops. The error message is:

I believe this has something to do with a power outage while upgrading a few days ago. Most of the install completed after rebooting, all except the three 'linux kernel image' files and a few others. Also, as a side issue, Flash plugin and Flex builder are no longer working. This may be unrelated. Does any one have any trouble shooting advice for the issue?
I upgraded to natty on release day and everything went fine, but about three days ago when I went to update my sources, I get this: Code: sudo apt-get update Code: W: Failed to fetch [URL] Sources 404 Not Found W: Failed to fetch [URL] Packages 404 Not Found E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
I've looked through the forums, but similar problems are always tied to the mozilla repo, not this one. It seems important, so I'm not sure if I should just delete it or what. My sources.list looks like this: Code: # deb cdrom:[Ubuntu 10.10 _Maverick Meerkat_ - Release i386 (20101007)]/ maverick main restricted # See [URL] for how to upgrade to newer versions of the distribution. deb [URL] natty main restricted deb-src [URL] natty main restricted ## Major bug fix updates produced after the final release of the distribution .....
When I run the command: "sudo apt-get install build essential autconf automake libxmu -dev" I go the following error: "E: Package autoconf has no installation candidate" In the cd-rom there is no any autconf package.
I managed to boot from hard disk, everything works ok. But Gparted has a bug, it works in Live Hard Disk, but not when I click the install icon because it can't umount /cdrom. But I solved that by formatting ext4 and swap area from gnome-panel Live Hard Disk and only put mount point / after click on install. But problem stroked back: install is not possible because it wants to umount itself before installing, wich cannot be possible. I'm installing it in a new place /dev/sda5. Live Hard Disk is booting from /dev/sda3.
I have just had my Ubuntu 10.04.2 Luci installed under my Windows OS. Things seem to be fine until I find out next that my copy of Ubuntu does not detect the presence of the cdROM which installed the software itself on my desktop machine.
I have tried searching high and low for clue in this forum, tried all the recommended tricks to find out at last that there is no cdROM listed under my DISK UTILITY and when I input the following comman,
sudo lshw -class disk -class storage I only happened to see my hard drive and some USD drives being listed.
Also, Brasero Disc Burner does not detect the presence of a cd/ DVD rom devices.
I have brought a virtuell server to get Magento ready. My server is debian with PHP Version 5.2.6-1+lenny3
For that i need Pear. I want to install it global so i tried this command "apt-get install php-pear". Following i get after this:
Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done The following extra packages will be installed: php5-cl Suggested packages: code.... 1+lenny3_all.deb 404 Not Found E: Unable to fetch some archives, maybe run apt-get update or try with --fix-missing?
I'm trying to install Lucid on a computer with windows already present. When I ran trough the install procedure no drives show up at the partitioning stage. So I check some things out and it turns out that /dev/sda1 is mounted to /cdrom and I can't umount it because it says the disk is in use. I'm booting with the live-cd downloaded from ubuntu. Why is this happening? Previously with older live-cd's I always have to mount the HD manually if I wanted to access it for any reason?
I downloaded the Ubuntu Server 10.04 64bit ISO and the universal USB installer, created a USB install disk and booted from it. I started the installation and right after keyboard setup I got an error saying Unable to read from CD-ROM, retry/abort. Looking at the alt-f4 log it was unable to find a file, fs-secondary.udeb I hit alt-f2 and cd'd to /cdrom/pool/main/l/linux (I think, this is all from memory) and found that file, almost. The file there was fs-secondaryblahblahblah.ude, no b on the end. I tried renaming it but the filesystem was mounted read-only.
So, cd back to / Type mount and hit enter. Take note of the cdrom entry, at the beginning of that line it will say /dev/? Mine was like /dev/svd0 or something like that. Remember whatever that is. Then type umount /cdrom Then type mount -t vfat /dev/????? (whatever your device was from earlier) /cdrom That will mount the cdrom rw so you can rename the file to .udeb Then press alt-F1 and press enter to retry and the installation will continue like normal.
I accidentally deleted my mahjongg game from ubuntu 10.04.Now when iam trying to install it from software center or synaptic, half way through it's asking for ubuntu cd.Eventhough i insert the original ubuntu 10.04 cd,it's not taking it.it keeps asking for the cd.It is same whenever i try to install any more game from synaptic or software center.
I have been trying plop floppy to boot a bootable cdrom from a mobile USB cdrom reader, but the usb cdrom are not recognized.I was thinking that with grub or grub2 or syslinux that would be possible, no ?
