General :: Apply Kernel Patch - Couldn't Find File To Patch

Apr 8, 2011

I just want to upgrade my Slackware 13.1 kernel (2.6.33.4) to the latest stable kernel from kernel.org (2.6.38.2). I have never done anything like this and I am a Linux newbie, so I would appreciate a "Kernel Patching for Dummies" version if possible. I did do a search on this forum and most of what I read was over my head. I found an FAQ on kernelnewbies.org on "How To Apply A Patch" but when I attempted what they suggested, it said it couldn't find the file to patch at line 5 and asked me which file to patch. So I CTRL-Z'd out of there and came here. Here's what I tried:

Slackware :: Mousepad Patch Available For Find Button?

May 19, 2010

Mousepad in xfce seems to have a problem when compiled with the latest libraries. In Slackware Current (13.1 RC1?) the "Find" button stays disabled the SECOND time you try to do a "find". Because of this, you can only do one "find" without closing Mousepad and opening it again.I found a bug report for this problem in a forumr a different distribution:[URL]I have applied this patch to the current xfce source code on my local machine and it seemed to solve the problem. It would be nice if this patch could make its way into the 13.1 release.

Ubuntu Installation :: Cannot Find Boot File / Won't Load Anything

Aug 21, 2010

My internal hard drive developed a problem (probably from a fall) and needs to be replaced. In the meantime I've decided to use my external hard drive to hold a version of Linux (ubuntu 10.04) until I am able to replace the internal hard drive. For some reason I am unable to get the external drive to accept the recovery disks I have for Windows 7.

What I'm having issues with is that after installing the Ubuntu OS on to the external, I reboot the PC and it tells me it cannot find a boot file, and won't load anything. I have to run the live cd version of the OS to get anything to work right.

It is obviously booting from the CDROM. I'm guessing it does not like the unformatted disk. Why doesn't it offer to format the disk of start the installation prcess? Is it something else?

Ubuntu :: Installation - Unable To Find A Medium Containing A Live File System

Aug 9, 2011

Background info: So I installed 11.04 32 bit and it messed my computer up therefore after trying everything I got rid of it, now I've been trying to install the 10.04 long support version from the official ubuntu website and it doesn't seem to be working. Neither the 32 bit version or the 64 bit. To convert the iso etc. etc. I used "Universal-USB-Installer-1.8.6.0" which is reccommended from the ubuntu website and it didn't work. So I tried "unetbootin-win-549" which a friend recommended to me - didn't work either.

Main problem: The menu loads up when I turn on the computer and whether I click on the install ubuntu, or try ubuntu from usb option - both go to the ubuntu screen where the dot's under "ubuntu" flash for about 2 minutes before taking me to a screen where the following message appears: Code: (initframs) unable to find a medium containing a live file system And after about 5 seconds intervals, messages similar to this appear for about 7 or 8 times:

Code: usb 1-3: device not accepting address 7. error -110 new high speed usb device using ehci_hcd and address 8 Each time they appear the parts which differ is the numbers from the text above i.e. usb 2-3....
