General :: Apply Kernel Patch - Couldn't Find File To Patch
Apr 8, 2011I just want to upgrade my Slackware 13.1 kernel (2.6.33.4) to the latest stable kernel from kernel.org (2.6.38.2). I have never done anything like this and I am a Linux newbie, so I would appreciate a "Kernel Patching for Dummies" version if possible. I did do a search on this forum and most of what I read was over my head. I found an FAQ on kernelnewbies.org on "How To Apply A Patch" but when I attempted what they suggested, it said it couldn't find the file to patch at line 5 and asked me which file to patch. So I CTRL-Z'd out of there and came here. Here's what I tried:

Because of this, you can only do one "find" without closing Mousepad and opening it again.I found a bug report for this problem in a forumr a different distribution:[URL]I have applied this patch to the current xfce source code on my local machine and it seemed to solve the problem.It would be nice if this patch could make its way into the 13.1 release.

(So i can create the link and download all of them in new server with download manager).I tried rsync but its too slow...After we created the links of whole files we will deny all ip address exclude new server IP address in nginx then we can transfer them all fast. (The servers are in 1 datacenter.)

Nov 23, 2010I've got an atheros ar9287 based card with the ath9k driver from the base install of lucid and I installed a compat wireless patch via this thread: [URL]... to fix the issue of the card being stuck on a given channel when using aircrack. Now, my system freezes up after about a minute or two. If I leave the wireless card off, everything runs fine no problem. I uninstalled the compat wireless driver via the readme just make uninstall in the compat-wireless folder, but I still get the freezes. So I assume it has something to do with the patches. I have no idea how to remove the patches. Can anyone help me with this or is there a way to get everything up and running so the original problem of being stuck on a channel is fixed?

Jan 21, 2011I moved my UBUNTU workstation from basement to second floor and it did not connect to my home network. When moved back to basement level, it connects. Cat5 cable to second floor is 3 time longer than one used to connect in basement, almost 100feet. My Windows XP laptop has no problem in connecting to the network on the second floor using the sane cable that was used with UBUNTU.

Mar 10, 2010We are seeing some strange behavior on a Set top Box with the scheduling of tasks. We use 2.6.12 kernel. The issue is when we create a Task, say task1 with a priority of 46.But,this task is not Scheduled to run by the scheduler right away. It gets chance to run only after sometime. What we see here is that I create many other tasks with lower priority than task1,but they are immediately scheduled. Ideally, the task1 should have got scheduled before certain other low priority tasks as it has higher priority. Any patch is available wrt this?

Jun 21, 2010So I've been looking around and some people say that the IPW2200 driver doesn't need Ieee80211 to work properly. What I'm trying to do is compile my own driver with the Jamx patch for version 1.2.2 but then it says that I do in fact need Ieee80211 to be installed. Even though I don't have it installed, my wireless works great. I just need the patch to work with the driver. I've also tried configuring some of the files in the Ieee80211 folder but it doesn't seem to help at all. When I try to use the make command for Ieee80211 I get this:

As you can see, It looks like it got rid of the proc_net errors but I still can't get it to install properly. Also, if I try to do the make SHELL=/bin/bash, it ends up being the exact same thing. This is really starting to get frustrating. Is there any way I can bypass this or do I need to install Ieee80211? If so, how can I do it without all these errors in Ubuntu 10.04.

May 5, 2010I am wondering about scheduling audio playback under Ubuntu. The background is this: My birthday is fast approaching, and I always try to do something to remember the best birthday gift I ever received, that being the Apollo 11 mission; Neil and Buzz landed on my 12th birthday.
Anyway, I have a wagonload of audio from nasa.gov and would like to schedule the MP3s to play in real time. 'at' won't do it, at least with 'mplayer'; I've tried. I suspect that because there is no controlling terminal for jobs run under 'at', the audio has no place to go. Is there some way to get a controlling terminal for these audio playback jobs, or specify a destination to some player?

May 24, 2011I was searching for many time but haven't found any solution. Cron would be great, but it allows only steps in range 1-59 minutes. Is there any mode to run something exactly every 73 minutes?
The second i need (the same problem) to run program little more than every 12 hours, it might be in steps of 12 hours and 4 minutes (but 13 hours is much too much).

Feb 10, 2010i think we can simulate preemption by using 2 different priority thread, am i true? I just try these scenario :
1. Create Thread A with priority 99 , SCHED_FIFO..
2. Create Thread B with priority 4 , SCHED_FIFO
Thread A started and doing some busy work.. I guess that Thread B wouldn't start until thread A finished, but I get thread B can run before Thread A finished (It just like a common task switching).. I'm sure my 2 thread has right priority. and if thread B is doing some work and if i yield it to thread A, it should preempt it but this doesnt happen, do someone kno wats happening?

Mar 23, 2010I have a program which is uses sigaction to register for a SIGIO signal (for incoming data on a fd) with an appropriate event handler. I also create a new detached thread 'B' that does some work with the received data. Normally the thread B runs properly. But when my event handler is called (because a there is new incoming data), after the event is handled, the thread B is not called immediately. There is a noticeable delay of the order of many seconds before it is scheduled again .During this delay, my program is doing nothing.
What am i doing wrong? Is there someway i can run thread B as soon as the event is handled (and assuming no other work is to be carried out)?
