Apr 20, 20109.04 Dell Inspiron 1525. Update Manager fails to retrieve database info for Medibuntu. Is this a phase error with Adobe swf or reader? What should I do?

Ubuntu Installation :: Update Manager Not Restart 10.4 Update After Broken Download
May 2, 2010I started the upgrade to 10.4 from 9.10 through the update manager. It started the update to 10.4. After downloading almost 95% of the update, it gave an error message of "could not download certain components. downloaded files will not be erased" and stopped the update. I restarted the PC, and started the update manager again. But now it does not show any option of update to 10.4. how do I continue or resume the update process? I just started using ubuntu about 15 days back. So, I am relatively new to this.

Dec 24, 2010I am wanting to upgrade over the holidays.I am using 9.04, and want to upgrade to the latest .I have had a problem with my upgrade manager for a while, but just ignored it.
I think I tried a game emulator a while ago, and the upgrade link is now broken .. but it could be more (I think a lot more) than that.

Jan 2, 2010Error messege: sudo dpkg configure a' to correct the problem. I used synaptic package manager to install WIne....It stalls on"ttf-mscorefonts-installer (3.0". So, I try update manager and it asked me to restart computer which I do. When I try to re-run synaptic manager I get the above error.

(In fact, graph-tool_xxx.deb asks for libcgal4. squeeze only has libcgal5, so I am betting this is not an issue, as far as graph-tool is concerned.)

Sep 30, 2010It started with Update Manager constantly recycling and not updating. When it starts it shows 295 files and 308MB waiting to download. When I click on 'Install Updates' it appears to go through the process, and then presents me with the same 'waiting to install' window again - and again, and again - in fact as many times as I care to click the 'Install Updates' button. No error messages appear. The 'Settings' button produces the same apparent process as the 'Install Updates' button, but doesn't present me with any other screen.
I've tried all the solutions I could find on these forums and nothing works. The sudo suggestions for Terminal usually produce error codes. adjusting a line in the 'hosts' file. When I tried this I was presented with the obstacle of not having access to the read-only file, and no matter how much I searched I couldn't find how to gain access . While investigating all these possible solutions, I was directed in turn to the Software Sources and Synaptic Package Manager applications, but when I attempted to start them, 'Starting Administrative Application' appeared briefly on the taskbar - and then disappeared!

Ubuntu Installation :: Missing Network Manager Applet And Broken Kde After Upgrade To 10.04
May 1, 2010I was running Ubuntu 9.10 on my HP G70 laptop and did an upgrade using upgrade manager to Ubuntu 10.04.
Since I haven't been able to get wifi connection or wired working. The Network Manager applet is missing from the notification area and if I try to run nm-applet manually it says it is already running. I tried killing the process and then running it manually in the terminal and although the process appears to be running it is missing from the panel.
Booting into the live cd has the applet working fine so something in the upgrade process must have failed.
I tried changing the theme to see if it displays in other themes but had no luck.
I also tried to log into kde but kde seems to be broken. When I log into it after the splash screen all I get is a black screen with only my mouse pointer.

I have looked elsewhere for an answer and some others have had similar problems, but I have not found a reason for it happening, nor an answer. I wonder if anyone can help me please. I have been using Ubuntu for several months, can use the Terminal if I have the right commands to issue, but beyond that have limited knowledge of the system.
