View 1 RepliesI am brand new to Linux (Ubuntu 10.10 is what I use), and always used Yahoo Messenger back when I had Windows. Why are there no programs that allow for Voice calls to individual users? (not chat rooms, as I greatly despise them, but calls from one user to another) I was told Gyachi has that, but everything I tried does not work. Pidgin doesn't allow for voice chatting either, and the only version of Yahoo messenger that is available for Unix is extremely old and outdated.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI want to install Debian but I'd like to keep my Skype chat history.
I don't know if it's possible to just copy from %appdata% the skype folder and put it into the Debian's one.
How could I do? I read one post but it's quite old, so maybe there's something new now.
I have tried to migrate my empathy settings and chat history to another machine.I copied .config/apps/empathy .local/share/empathy .mission-control .gconfig/app/empathy...But the new empathy do not recognize these settings. What am I missing?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am using skype in fedora 9. I am searching how can I delete skype call/chat history. I have searched some .dbb files in /home/<username>/.Skype/<skyID> directory like chatmsg2048.dbb. Can I safely remove these files in order to delete my chat history. Also, I cannot view these .dbb files in gedit. If I can read these files, I can better decide which history I need to delete.
View 3 Replies View Relatedi've recently installed pidgin via the Ubuntu Software Center. Unfortunnately it is lacking a "chat history" just like for example "Trillian" on Windows. Is there any IM-prog on Ubuntu which saves all conversations with any contact into files? (Just like Trillian on windows)

View 6 Replies View RelatedAfter upgrading to 10.10, the newer Empathy (or possibly telepathy-butterfly) doesn't seem to be allowing me to create a group chat over the MSN network.
It has always been a little cumbersome compared to other clients (open a chat window with one participant, select Coversation | Invite Participant, type in their name, add...repeat for each participant). But now the "Invite Participant" menu item is always disabled. I've tried removing/re-adding my account, rebooting, and a few other things, but no dice. Lots of googling doesn't turn up anything current.
Is anyone else having this issue, or is this isolated to my setup somehow?
I have got facebook chat to work in pidgin but I am having problems connecting it. When I first open pidgin it gives me an error it says at the bottom "You require encryption, but it is not available on this server." if I keep clicking on reconnect it will usually connect me at some point but it can take a long time I'm wondering on how to fix this. So that it will connect automatically
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've got a Toshiba Satellite a505s6020 that's been running ubuntu 10.10 flawlessly for some time now. However I've come across something I can't figure out. My laptop has an internal web camera, but I'd like to use the Microsoft HD lifecam here > [URL]. The microsoft usb cam works just fine in skype, and what gets me is the chat rooms "options" let's me select the usb cam, but still runs the internal. Other than disabling the internal? I'm all for disabling the internal if It'll make the USB one work in the chat.

All of the explanations I'm finding are telling me to put stuff in the terminal window with the assumption that I know what they're talking about it. I don't know what a kernel is or does or how to find out which one I have. I don't know what a tar is or does or how to find one. I'm looking for a simple 'for dummies' type of explanation on how I can get my webcam to work. Any suggestions?
