Ubuntu Installation :: Can't Find Python-hulahop In 10.04

May 1, 2010

I upgraded to 10.04 and noticed that python-hulahop package is nowhere to be found. This package used to be available in previous versions, and according to google it was supposed to be available in 10.04 too until recently: [URL] (this is the actual page that claims the link is erroneous) [URL](this is google cache for the same link that shows the package for lucid)

I'm trying to run Pyjamas Desktop, which requests the hulahop module (in 9.10, the precompiled python-hulahop did not work, but self-compiled version did. Now in 10.04 I can't find the source to compile the package myself either). Did it get replaced? Did it get included into another package?

Programming :: Python - Find And Replace While Typing In Raw Input

Apr 30, 2010

I'm writing a program in Python that presents a place for the user to input one-line of text (using raw_input). I need, however, as the user types, for certain words to be replaced, even before the user hits enter.

I try to make an animation so you can see what I mean, here the word "pig" gets replaced with "sheep":
>I|
>I |
>I l|
>I li|
>I lik|
>I like|
>I like |
>I like t|
>I like to|
>I like to |
>I like to e|
>I like to ea|
>I like to eat|
>I like to eat |
>I like to eat p|
>I like to eat pi|
>I like to eat pig|
>I like to eat sheep|

Note, the user never typed "sheep", the program replaced "pig" with "sheep" as soon as they finished typing the word "pig". The user did not use "Enter". Is this at all possible in Python?

Ubuntu Installation :: Uninstalled Python - Whole System Disappeared

Jan 29, 2010

Every time I booted in 9.10, Python requested a password. I didn't plan to do any programming very soon (I'm new to Linux, although I know Unix) because I'm just learning the shell, etc, so I decided to uninstall Python through the Package Manager. I selected all of the installed Python modules and when I clicked "Apply" I was informed that there was one module (Python minimum something) that would seriously effect the whole system, so I unchecked that module and then ran the uninstall. When it completed, Firefox was gone, the two music players I had installed where gone, I couldn't log out and when I try to reboot I get a message "Ubuntu is running in low-graphics mode" and I go through several other menus, but I still can't get the system to boot.I assume a reinstall is in order, but should I "clean up" any of the remaining Linux modules/partition? And what's the best way to do that?

Ubuntu Installation :: Python -> Upgrade 9.10 To 10.x From Command Line?

Oct 7, 2010

I had problems with python stuff and so update manager did not work. Also many other problems, PiTiVi was installed but did not start eg... After many trials of this and that I removed python-gtk2 and so also ubuntu desktop. But was unable to get it back. Now I cannot even shut down. While it is not possible to install desktop or anything else, would it be possible to fix this by upgrading the whole system to 10.04 (10.10?)? Would it fix python installation. How could I do it. Some info tells to change sources.list and run apt-get upgrade, but some tell not to do so.

Ubuntu Installation :: When Trying To Run 'python Setup.py Build' Get An Error (Shown At The End)?

May 5, 2010

I would like to install pymedia on my ubuntu 9.10 karmic distribution, but I am having a bit of a hard time doing that.I managed to install all the libraries (lame, libogg, libvorbis etc.) but when trying to run 'python setup.py build' I get an error (Shown at the end).I found on the interwebs that it may have to do with the version of gcc c++ compiler running (currently gcc-4.4) and that it only works with gcc-3.x. Therefore I downloaded gcc-3.4 (from the old jaunty archive), and with this one still no joy.NebelhomP.S. Ubuntu Installation :: Quick Python Script For Updating Machines Without Internet?

(Synaptic does fine on generating download scripts for packages, but it needs an option to handle updates as well)

If anyone else has a use for this, you're welcome to use it. Please let me know what needs to be changed to make it work on your box.

Debian Configuration :: PIP Installation Fails For MySQL Connector Python

Apr 6, 2016

I got assigned to a project, where the installation is done over ansible. As I'm new in linux, python, django, ansible I wanted to try this out on a empty linux debian.

Code: Select alluname -a

Linux DebianABC 3.16.0-4 amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.16.7-ckt20-1+deb8u4 (2016-02-29) x86 64 Gnu/Linux

When I now run my ansible playbook it tries to install mysql and suddenly I get an error:

Code: Select all:stderr: DEPRECATION: --allow-external has been deprecated and will be removed in the future. Due to changes in the repository protocol, it no longer has any effect.

DEPRECATION: --allow-unverified has been deprecated and will be removed in the future. Due to changes in the repository protocol, it no longer has any effect.

Could not find a version that satisfies the requirement mysql-connector-python==1.0.12 (from -r /home/abc/abcTest/requirements.pip (line 36)) (from versions: )

No matching distribution found for mysql-connector-python==1.0.12 (from -r /home/abc/abcTest/requirements.pip (line 36))

FATAL: all hosts have already failed -- aborting

So I checked the target machine and tried to run

pip install -vvv -r requirement.txt mysql-connector-python

As version 1.0.12 is an old version, I was searching and tried the following: [URL] ....

But also if I run the installation by direct download I have the same error message:

Code: Select allabc@DebianABC:/home/abc/abcTest$ pip install -r requirements.pip -vvv mysql-connector-python
Collecting http://cdn.mysql.com//Downloads/Connector-Python/mysql-connector-python-1.0.12.tar.gz (from -r requirements.pip (line 36))
Starting new HTTP connection (1): cdn.mysql.com
  "GET //Downloads/Connector-Python/mysql-connector-python-1.0.12.tar.gz HTTP/1.1" 200 230923

[Code] ....

I was reading about the version requirements from PEP: [URL] .... but as the version looks ok, this should not be the problem.

Fedora Installation :: Test An Application GUI With Python 2.4, 2.5 And 2.6. Python2.6 Is Native In F12?

I am driving Fedora 12 and need to test an application GUI with Python 2.4, 2.5 and 2.6. Python2.6 is native in F12 at /usr/lib... and I have alt-installed 2.4 and 2.5 at /usr/local/lib... My latest trial was to download Fedora 7 live and copy from its python2.5 gtk-2.0 and pygtk.* to F12:/usr/local/lib/python2.5/site-packages. Results were as follows:
