Ubuntu Multimedia :: Launch Application In Specific Monitor?

Aug 24, 2010

I have a laptop running Ubuntu hooked up to a TV via a VGA to S-Video converter with the VGA-out through an external monitor, and I am trying to find a way to set vlc or mplayer to open fullscreen in the external monitor by default. Eventually I want to be able to hit enter on a video file and have it play on the TV without any dragging to the external monitor. I have googled around a bit, checked the monitor settings options, and looked through the media player options but so far can't find anything.

Ubuntu :: Select An Application To Open A (specific) File?

Mar 16, 2011

I have this problem, that I want a specific .exe file to open in Mono, but all other .exe files to open in Wine.

However, the only option there is, are 'Select an application to open XXXX.exe and other files of type "DOS/Windows executable"'

but I just want to open THIS .exe file in mono, and the rest in WINE.

I have been in similar situations before, in that I opened a folder containing music with VLC, and it worked fine, but after that, it assumed that I wanted to open all folders in VLC.

I assume that there must be an option for this, and I can not see why it ain't an option by default.

(I'm using Ubuntu 10.10)

General :: Set Specific Application To Always Reside In Ram?

Jun 12, 2010

how can you set specific application's data to always reside in ram, so it runs and launches super fast all the time?

i recall reading about how you could put all your libs folders into ramfs once, but it took up a lot of ram, so i never bothered, and it was really just for faster (instant) launching times.

i just want to be able to set that for specific things, like for example, the GIMP and Inkscape.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Application Specific Audio Output To Headphones Only?

Jan 22, 2010

I currently have my desktop setup with two displays, one of them being my living room tv that I run Boxee on. My problem is that all the audio runs through the same speakers preventing me from listening to music or gaming at the same time as when Boxee is in use.

I would like to know if it's possible to split the audio so that an application of my choosing only outputs sound through my headphones. I was thinking it would be possible with some of the controls in pulse, but if it is I cannot figure it out.

How can I force a Wine application (or Wine itself) to use a specific network interface? I have installed hamachi and am trying to play starcraft over virtual LAN. However, when I run Starcraft with hamachi running, it does not work. I have now determined that hamachi creates a network interface called "ham0". How do I force Wine/Starcraft to use the "ham0" network connection? I have looked into forcebindip but it crashes on wine.

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Specific Sound Car Per Application?

Oct 28, 2010

I have two sound cards in my computer. OpenSuSE 11.3 recognizes them both without a problem, and I can play sound through each of them. Is it possible to set one application to use one sound card simultaneously with another sound card routing to a different application? That would be sweet. For example, I have my surround speakers plugged into one sound card, so I can provide music for the whole room, and have my PC speakers next to the monitor playing a movie.

I want to make specific keymaps for application, that working only in it and doesn't affect other apps.

Looks like xmodmap doesn't have any options related to that.

Ubuntu Networking :: 2+ Internet Interfaces - Control Application Specific Usage?

Mar 24, 2010

I currently have two internet interfaces installed, one is ethernet (eth0) and the second is wireless (wlan0). Many command line applications allow you to specify which interface should be used, but many gui apps don't provide this option or at least I haven't found it. I have some questions:

1. How would I tell Firefox to use only my wlan0 interface? If it's possible in Firefox, is this also possible with Google Chrome?

2. If a program doesn't provide a command line argument to support this, is there a standalone application that could help manage preferences for multiple applications?

Debian :: Set Default Application For Specific File Extensions

Dec 17, 2015

How to properly set some entries in:

$HOME/.config/mimeapps.list

so that:
*.odb files are opened by default with libreoffice base
*.org files (just org files not plain text files) are opened by default with emacs

For some reason I can not figure out how to proceed.

As far as I know - i.e. for what I have been reading in the documentation - the default application for a given MIME-type is specified by writing into the group [Default Applications] in the mimeapps.list file

My configuration is the following:

- 3.16.0-4-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.16.7-ckt11-1+deb8u6 (2015-11-09) x86_64 GNU/Linux
- gnome desktop

Ubuntu :: Allow A Specific User To Mount Or Remount A Specific Partition?

Jun 9, 2010

my system I want user1 and only user1 to be able to mount and unmount a specific partition, this partition contains backups and is usually mounted read only, needs to be temporarily mounted read/write by user1 while doing the backup.user1 is an unprivileged user. I've read that the user option will let any user mount the file-system (and only that user can then subsequently unmount it) and that the users option allows any user to mount or unmount the file-system.I also found this in mount's man pageQuote:The owner option is similar to the user option, with the restriction that the user must be the owner of the special file. This may be useful e.g. for /dev/fd if a login script makes the console user owner of this device. The group option is similar, with the restriction that the user must be member of the group of the special file.So it looks like I'd need a login script for that user to make the user owner of the device file (/dev/voiceserv/backup in this case)

I'm trying to configure our mail server to block email from a specific sender reaching a specific recipient. In other words, if one of our employees is getting harassed by a 'stalker', how would one go about blocking, at the MTA (Sendmail) level, a specific sender email address from reaching a particular users inbox? We do not want to capture the email - simply block it before it consumes server resources. The Sendmail server (MTA) is a front end to our Exchange server so no user accounts exist on the Linux server. We simply use it as a SPAM and Virus scanner then forward clean email to the Exchange server.
