I had installed Ubuntu And Kubuntu Dual-Boot, at the Boot-screen i see the following two OS to enter....but i want to change their title names(Which is displayed at Boot-Screen). My Boot-screen picture is attached herewith. I want to change these names to Ubuntu & Kubuntu Respectively.
I have also checked menu.list but their i am unable to find Following titles(Which i have showed in picture, exceptMemtest 86+)
So when I upgraded to Slack64 13.1 on my asus MB homebrewed desktop and Slack 13.1 on my compaq presario a900 laptop, I started having issues with the xterm title (in Terminal--not Konsole) being too dynamic. By "too dynamic" I mean that I can't actually change the title. The dynamic title (from my .bashrc) is basically just pwd. Whenever I try to set the title (via terminal->set title (menu)), I changes it for a split second, and then reverts back to the dynamic title.
This is merely a petty annoyance, so to get around it, I added an xtitle function that I grabed somewhere online (just echos "�33]0;$*�07"). So for nano-ing some file, I'd type:xtitle some_file.txt; nano some_file.txt
That works just fine (kind of annoying to type though). running xtitle alone won't actually change the name either though (I'm pretty sure it's the same command as what terminal does anyway). That is, running: xtitle some_file.txt
changes the title for a split second, and the reverts back to my old pwd.What I really want is to have it dynamically name it "some_file.txt" whenever I use nano, but that appears to be a functionality of zsh (with the preexec() fxn).I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem, and if you have a fix for it.
i used to have 9.10 but now upgraded to the latest version. Back then I changed the background to full black for both the preboot screen and login screen.Now after upgrading it changed it to the purple color screen. I am wondering how I can change back the background color?

Seems to be a silly question, but does anybody know how to change the title of an pdf document? (even in the console)I searched in Okular, pdfedit, gimp and gnome documentviewer but they dont seem to have a title option.Only open office writer has this option, but this is actually not saved in the pdf title tag.(I need it as Google indexes the title tag and I have there an ugly path name at the moment.)

I'm going to use it basically for development since the kernel bug affects my other systems, still using 9.1. when I loaded firefox - 3.6.x - i noticed the title bar is missing. It appears to be somehow over the top menu bar. (How did that get up there? I usually had it on the bottom.)
I looked and found [URL].. one thread that mentioned this. However, pushing F11 and back does nothing. The menu simply stays at the top. In fact, I can't even expand it. What's with the goofy colors, too?
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to change the color of the (decorated) title bar in LXDE (Mint Linux)? I can't find anything in the system to do this, or advice in google search.
Also when I right click and select "undecorate" I cannot retrieve the title bar unless I close the programme and open it again - is there any way around this?
after upgrading from Karmic Koala 9.10 to Lucid Lynx 10.04, i notice something different with title bar on every window opened.
for example:
"Google - Mozilla Firefox" is not at the middle of the window title. and on Lynx it's on the left.
I've been using Kubuntu for about 6 months now and decided to try something new. So i switched to arch linux, and after much deliberation, I got KDE functional on it. There's just one problem. The icons aren't displaying properly. Here's a picture:

How do I change the turquoise-ish plasma-desktop and title bar things. Also whenever i open something, it asks me basically where i want to position it. How do i stop it from asking me that as well?
Also, how do I login as something other than root? I did adduser, but no login screen shows up for me.
I usually have several xterms open, with each one running a different gnu screen session. It would be useful if--at a glance--I could see the session name in the xterm title bar. That way I would be able to quickly tell which screen sessions are running in which xterms. This would be very useful when alt-tabbing.
I know that there are termcap, terminfo, and termcapinfo commands available, but I don't know how to use these. I also know that there's an $STY environment variable that stores the session name. Also, I do not want to lose my current "hardstatus alwayslastline" bar. It seems like this should be independent from the xterm title, anyways.
I have Ubuntu 9.10, does anyone know how to change the default boot screen (with the Ubuntu name and the light). Also, the sound that comes with this screen?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell dimension 8300 dual booting with windows 7 and ubuntu 10.10. I installed BURG on it since I didnt like the text grub style. Problem is I cant change the splash screen no matter what I do, or changes I make. My screen resolution is 1280x1024 and my video card is an Nvidia card.
Originally the splash screen was a purple screen with ubuntu 10.10 white text and some dots on it. After installing the plymouth themes, now it has changed to a blue screen with Kubuntu(?) on it... Id like to know whats wrong and how can I change the splash screen?
UPDATE: Ok I went to synaptic and saw plymouth.kubuntu-logo and kubuntu-text were installed and enabled (had litle ubuntu logo to the side). So I removed those 2 files then did a reboot. Now im back to the purple screen with ubuntu 10.10 white text and the dots but I still cant change the splash screen...
Using LTS 10.04. How do I change my boot splash and login screen? (in the past I would). It was just system->admin->login screen but all the options are missing! See attached screen shots.

i decided i wanted to change my boot screen and i installed plymouth themes and used solar and now that i dont like any of the Plymouth themes, i want the original purple boot screen back but i dont know how and it would be awesome if somebody could tell me P.S I'm a bit of a linux noob so sorry if i got anything muddled up lol

Changes to xorg.conf file: Firstly, I saved it at 16 color depth with the sudo nvidia-settings and by clicking on the save to xorg.conf file Button. Rebooted computer....... It worked, saved file, and I got the following bugs:
*Cannot move windows by dragging their title bars.
*Cannot see close "X" Button in the title bar.
*Cannot see Minimize Button in the title bar.
*Cannot see Maximize Button in the title bar.
Went back to 24 bits and problem got resolved. Then i tryed: I did sudo gedit xorg.conf I changed all the 24's with 16's ... Rebooted computer....... It works GOOD... BUT: I got the same bugs from before. I will retype them below

I have tried this with many different configurations, however, I believe that the scroll bar that shows the progress of the boot is preventing it from changing successfully. I don't know how to switch it off. X is not installed. No gui, only tui.

For example if you take a look at Oracle Enterprise Linux 6 they have a loading screen that makes an "O" on start up. No.1 I would like to change the HORRIBLE!! YAK!! brown background color behind the word Ubuntu in the start up screen when the machine loads up (before the login). I have located the image file for this which I have found to be: /usr/share/images/xsplash/bg_2560x1600. jpg but the OS says that root is the owner and that I don't have permission to change this. So how can I change this for a color I do like.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed Ubuntu with a partition that was too small for any practical use, so I installed it again, thinking it would simply overwrite the other one as Windows would do. Obviously not. Now I have two Ubunto installations, neither of which work. I get a White Screen after the Ubuntu thing that shows its progress. If I try to boot from the CD, the Ubuntu thing works again, then I get a completely garbled screen which is totally unreadable and unuseable. I should also mention that I originally installed with a 19" square flatscreen from HP, but have upgraded to an Acer H233H. Since I have no clue what to do whatsover Ubuntu is just taking up space. I'd like to be able to use it, and I'd like to be able to get rid of one or other of the installations.

But it hangs in the middle. I am also unable to change my BIOS settings due to which i can"t change my boot preference. My first Boot is the HDD. I want to change it to CD-ROM. Any suggestion? I also have another PC where i can boot through the CD...I tried installing there by booting from the CD but i get this error message after seeing the purple Linux screen with the loading dots. I am using Ubuntu 10.04.1 and I run it 24 hours a day. Recently one morning I went to my laptop and opened the screen but the login screen wouldn't appear. Anytime the cursor appeared, HDD activity would go to 100%. I'm assuming this because the HDD light on my laptop was permanently on. So I made the dumb decision of just holding the power button down and turning it off. When I turned it back on, I noticed it came to a command prompt type screen listing "initramfs" at the bottom apparently wanting me to input a command. I did a lot of research and couldn't find much of anything that would help me. I read about GRUB, superblocks, fsck, e2fsck, etc.. . I tried all of those and nothing has worked so far. Any ideas? I did notice one thing. When I went into the actual install with the livecd, it told me the drive was /dev/sda5, but in Disk Utility on the livecd, it told me it was /dev/sda1
