Ubuntu :: How To Rescue / Remove Broken MySQL Server

Jun 10, 2010

I believe that 10.04 & MYSQL Server are not compatible. My problem is that I have not been able to remove MYSQL from the system. Every thing I've tried says I have to reinstall before removing and I can NOT get anything to update. What can I do short of a hammer & chisel?

Ubuntu :: Remove Everything Related To Mysql / Mysql-server?

May 23, 2011

How can I really, really remove everything related to mysql / mysql-server. I read and tried all kinds of things, but on every reinstall there is still old mysql stuff there, for example an existing password. Even resetting the password does not help.

Reason of removal: it looks like the mysql setup is really corrupt, so I want to remove, and then do a fresh install. Running Ubuntu 11.04 64-bit

sander@R540:~$ sudo apt-get purge mysql-server

I think this goes here, but I'm not sure. I decided that XAMPP had been troublesome enough. MySQL never worked. So I decided to instal the LAMP stack offered by YaST. I went about installing it thinking that it would all work. But it seems that I was wrong. So I try to start mysql, and here's what I get:

Debian Multimedia :: Stuck At Grub Rescue When Remove Systemd

Jan 10, 2015

I thought I'd have a go at putting back sysvinit to run the start up daemons, after I discovered that upgrading to jessie removed it and slapped on systemd.

I didn't have any problems at all with systemd, infact it was pure speed at start-up, but after some reading I thought I'd like to go back to usual start-up scripts.

What I did was to boot a Live Debian and mount and chroot into my Debian system, then I ran

Code: Select allsudo apt-get remove --purge --auto-remove systemd
sudo apt-get install sysvinit-core sysvinit sysvinit-utils

On reboot, I hit a grub rescue prompt which says error: file not found.

Trying the methods to get that sorted out gets stuck with "unknown file system" after I use ls and ls(hd1,msdos2) -as well as other combinations - it only seems to work for a plugged in flash drive.

Then I chroot again and run update-grub and grub-install /dev/sdb but reboot still stops at grub rescue.

So I wonder, firstly, why replacing systemd mucked up grub. Then, besides re-install of systemd, how do I get a booting system?

General :: Broken Dual Boot - Xp / Ub - Error: Error File Not Found - Grub Rescue

May 21, 2011

Ubuntu 9.10 was set up to handle the booting selection - previously I thought it was xp but Ubuntu 9.10 "did" it. The system started out as a xp / ubuntu 9.10 dual boot on a 400gb drive. xp has 210gb, ub has 80 and their is a 100gb shared storage. Xp was installed first and then I followed a guide over at linuxconfig.org to get ub installed so that I could select which OS was wanted at boot. Ubuntu manages the boot up menu (Went back to look at my notes from the original setup) The owner tried to update to ub 11.04 and afterall was said and done the machine now boots to the message

error file not found grub rescue I can't say if 11.04 was properly installed or not. Ask whatever you like and I'll give the best answer I can. I think the xp install is okay but I can't say for certain as I don't know how to boot it outside the bootmanager at startup. Data has been saved so if I have to blow it all away and start over I can but I'm hoping I won't have to.

Ubuntu :: Cannot Remove Broken Packages / Fix It?

Jul 6, 2010

Last night I was installing gbrainy and while it was installing I started a fullscreen game on accident. Fullscreen games cause crashes on my intel integrated graphics (an unrelated issue) and while gbrainy was in the process of installing my computer crashed. So I had to restart. When I restarted I knew I would see broken packages so I did code...

I've tried just about everything to resolve the broken packages but I can't fix them. Does anyone have any idea what I can do to fix this?

Ubuntu :: How To Find And Remove Broken Package References

Oct 14, 2010

A while back a disk error caused /var/lib/dpkg/status to go south - completely corrupted. I managed to rebuild it with the help of a script i found online, but now there's a package called libghc6-edison in limbo on my install. It has no sources, as it was custom built, and i cant seem to find the references to this thing. Apt cache shows that it exists, synaptic gives me an error in CLI every time i launch it referring to this package -Traceback (most recent call last):

I've tried grepping all the files in /var/lib/dpkg to no avail. Any ideas where else this information could be stored? i need to find all the references to the package and purge them. It seems to preven me from successfully pulling off a do-release-upgrade (in a VM for testing) as well as doing a remastersys dist (have to do remastersys backup instead).

The package was never available in Lucid, if i remember correctly, i had to compile it myself and debianize it, but i cant seem to find the sources on my build VM or anywhere in the installed end-product OS.

Ubuntu Installation :: Remove Broken Packages Only Without Affecting Others?

Jun 3, 2011

I was installing some packages using the generate download script in synaptic and 'sudo dpkg -i -R ...' because I don't have my own internet connection at home but somewhere else. I think I got carried away a little and installed some packages that have some dependency issues. Now I have three broken packages that need to be removed, but I don't want them to affect (remove) other packages which would be marked whenever I try to mark them for removal, for fear that their removal might affect other functions. I think my machine was just fine before I started to fumble with individual dependencies; that's why I don't what the other dependencies removed. My question is how do I remove those dependencies only using the terminal without removing the others?

Ubuntu :: Unable To Remove Broken TeamViewer Menu Link?

Jan 18, 2011

Ubuntu 10.04 32 bit

Background...

I was working with TeamViewer 5 just fine and then saw that TeamViewer 6 was available. I performed a complete removal of TeamViewer 5 via the Synaptic Package Manager and then did a clean install of TeamViewer 6 by executing the new deb file.

TeamViewer 6 was added to the Main Menu just fine, but after rebooting my laptop, the TeamViewer 6 Main Menu launcher was gone and a broken link was there in its place.

I have since followed the solution in the below thread to get a valid TeamViewer 6 launcher back in the Main Menu, but I cannot get rid of the broken link.

[URL]

In the System->Preferences->Main Menu window, the broken link is basically frozen. I can't hide it or delete it. Is there some file I'm just going to have to update to get rid of it?

Fedora :: MYSQL Error 2002 (HY000): Can't Connect To Local MySQL Server Through Socket?

Feb 22, 2011

I've been attempting to set up a LAMP for local web development, which meant installing mysql-server. But now have a problem when trying to run mysql, I get:-

ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)

When trying to downgrade mysql-server I saw that there are dependency problems between the various modules (but can't recall which). But whichever route I truied the results are always the same.

Thought about trying XAMPP but I note that even has it's problems, is there any way I can get a lamp set up on FC14, or must I give it up as a bad job.

Howver, just been trying to again to fix the problems with downgrading mysql and get:-

Ubuntu :: Remove Mysql From Startup?

May 22, 2010

I have installed mysql server on my Ubuntu Lucid AMD64 desktop. I need to run this service only on need. So I prefer not to have this in startup. So I did the following -

1. Deactivated the row entry by name "mysql" from application BootUp-Manager.

2. Run the application sysv-rc-conf and unchecked the checkboxes for all run levels.

3. Run the command "sudo update-rc.d -f mysql remove". Execution completed successfully.

4. Run the command - "sudo service mysql stop". In return I got a message "mysql stop/waiting".

5. Restarted the desktop.

Now when I read through the task manager, I still see a process by name "mysqld" running. I ran the command as mentioned in # 4 above and got the same response. I wanted to know how do I turn off mysql service running from startup permanently. But I still need to run it as and when required.

Server :: Recover MySQL Innodb From /var/lib/mysql/ Backup?

Jan 30, 2011

I installed mediawiki the other day and went with the default innodb option. However a week later something went wrong. And since I have scripts that nightly backup /var/ I just copied the backup of /var/lib/mysql/wikidb/ (as I've done with MyISAM). Then when I connect the wikidb database. I can see the tables (via "show tables"), but when I do any query with them (check table X, select * from X) I get:

Code:

Table 'wikidb.X' doesn't exist I've since read that can can't just copy the database directory like MyISAM, and there appears to be no way that I can find to restore or fix Innodb, without a dump of the data. And I never got a chance to do a mysqldump of the data. So has anybody got any idea how I can at least view the "page" table from the files I've backed up in /var/lib/mysql/wikidb/ ?
