How can I change the Ubuntu icon to the default GNOME icon, on the main GNOME menu, using an official or 'clean' way of doing it
I'm running Lucid Lynx 10.04 x64 here and the following issues:
1. How do I change the icon text for applications?
2. I can't seem to burn DVDs successfully (CDs burn ok though). I've tried burning with K3b, Nero and Brasero - all fail to produce a readable DVD. My burner seems to produce readable DVDs when running WinXP with Nero though.
I run ubuntu karmic 64 bit and have 2 displays (Working just about perfectly ). One problem i do have is by default all desktop icons appear on my secondary display. Is there any way to change it so they appear on my primary display?

I have (Preferences -> Preferred Applications) in the menu and that lets me set Web Browser and Mail client. I have that set to Chromium, however any links I click open in Opera. I want these to open in Chromium, but I'm not sure how to set that.
How do i get the default mail icon and the default chat icon to popup on my launcher?

I would like to change the default blue oxygen icon, I went to system settings (now is configure desktop), file association, select inode and directory, click on the icon and change it to the one I like. Click ok, reboot but the blue folder icon is also there, how can I change this icon to one I like better?
I recently upgraded to Fedora 15 and am super-happy with it. Unfortunately, I have a minor issue that I haven't yet figured out how to fix: I can't change the default applications or the file type associations. For instance, I'd like to set Chromium as my default browser. When I first login, I tell it to set itself as default. But after I end my session and log back it, Firefox is back to being the default browser.
I have the same issues when trying to change what applications open filetypes. .rtf files have been opening in Wordpad in Wine. When I try to change it to Writer through the "Open with" dialog, it retains the change for that session but resets after I log out. I actually ended up having to uninstall Calibre because it was opening .odt files instead of LibreOffice and I couldn't change it permanently.
how to do this via command-line? I cant seem to get it to change I'm in a chroot and need to know how-to via console?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to figure out how to change the default settings for my printer under Firefox. I'm mainly interested in changing the default print resolution and the pages-per-side layout setting I can change the settings for all KDE applications through [URL], but I can't seem to be able to find the respective dialog for Firefox / GTK applications.
Firefox itself doesn't seem to have a dialog for the printer default settings; I've looked into about:config but all the value names are rather confusing.
My system environment:
openSUSE 11.3
KDE 4.4.4
Printer: Brother MFC-7420
Where is preferred applications in the Gnome menu. I want to change the default Banshee to Totem.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've installed Office 2007 under wine, and would like to add launchers for Word, Excel, etc to the Unity launcher bar.
So, I've created a launcher on the Desktop that will run Word with wine. I've changed the icon to the Word Icon and everything works great from the desktop. If I drag that launcher to the Unity bar, it adds it, but changes the icon to the springboard default icon that new launchers use. Please see attached picture.
As a side note, I am really starting to like Unity (puts on flamesuit), but it seems very easy to break the install of 11.04. I've had to reinstall 4 times now.
Is anyone else seeing the default icon in GNOME Shell instead of the usual Firefox icon? I am talking about the default icon that looks like a purple diamond.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having an issue with my AWN dock where I have enabled it to'group similarapplications', i.e multiple windows of the the same applicationIn 9.10, AWN distinguished between different WINE applications and used their native icons. In 10.04 AWN doesn't distinguish, see the pic belowScreenshot-2.jpgs you can see AWN groups my WINE applications under one icon, the spotify icon and you can see the MS Word logo to the right. This is very irritating since I would like to have separate WINE shortcuts on my taskbar! I'm sure this will affect some other users too.Anyone know how to sort this out?N.B I can't use cairodock as I have issues with freezing and icons not appearing, and i feel docky isn't up to speed with the same functionality as the others for the time being.
View 3 Replies View RelatedUbuntu 11.04. I would like to move the Applications Icon, the one that launches a window where I can view and launch all my applications. I want to move it up near the top of the Launcher Bar, where it would be more readily accessed. I've tried "clicking and dragging but the only thing I can do is switch places with the "Files & Folders" Icon.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'd imagine I sound like a complete clown but I am completely new to ubunto and linux in general. Having "fiddled around with it" for a matter of weeks I am finding generally I am quite pleased and am taking my time sorting through the chaff. Talking of chaff I have a problem from downloading a program previously which turned out to be unnecessary. Avast, I have removed the program and associated files but for some reason an Icon remains in the applications box at the bottom, not in a grouped file. I have tried various terminal commands taken from forums etc but none of these appear to have done the trick. A simple right click doesnt give me a remove to waste basket option and the drag and drop to waste basket doesn't work either. Amongst terminal efforts force remove etc etc., don't have any affect and the lines about the avast file does not exist.

When I run my Gnome desktop all my KDE applications are missing their usr/share/icons/hicolor/48*48/apps/nameofapplication.png picture. The KDE applications work, and when I go to that destination file the png. picture is present. View 3 Replies View RelatedI am using Faenza Icons, which is reflected in the icons on the throughout the system except in the windows list applet for certain applications like Firefox and Chrome in the gnome panel. The indicator applet and the menu do show Faenza icons for all the items (including firefox and chrome). I am yet to check for other applications which do not follow the icon theme. I want the windows list to be consistent with the menu and it feels strange that certain applications follow their own icons disregarding the theme I have selected.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI know how to install icons but i do not want to do it that way because almost all of the icons pack out there are incomplete leaving some of my programs with no icons if i install it.
Now i want to use ubuntu icon but i just want to change the icons of the folders only. Can anybody direct me to the folder where the default ubuntu "Humanity" icons are stored?
I only want to replace the humanity folder with the new folder icon which i found.
Because Remastersys has a size limit for its backups, I exclude the Pictures folder. Therefore, when I do a restore, there is no pictures folder; when I create one, it gets the generic folder icon, rather than the folder icon that is normally associated with the Pictures folder. I know that through properties I can replace the folder icon with anything, but I have not been able to find where the generic pictures folder icon is stored. If I choose a specific icon, and change the icon theme, the custom icon remains. Further, when I make a bookmark for the new Pictures folder, it gets the generic folder icon, no matter what icon is assigned to the Pictures folder. There must be a way to restore the generic Pictures folder icon, so that it changes with the icon theme.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've recently started using burg (a modification of grub that shows pictures instead of/with text), and I really like it for booting into Ubuntu and Vista. After many failed attempts of trying to get OSX on my PC, I'd like to try Macbuntu (a theme for Ubuntu that makes it look like a Mac). Unfortunately (fortunately?) my parents have taking a liking to Ubuntu and hate when I change anything, so installing Macbuntu would be a big no-no. I made a copy of Ubuntu and will put it on another partition of my hard drive, but I don't want to have two Ubuntu pictures when burg boots up. Are there any bootup lines I can put inside burg.cfg to fool it into loading an osx picture, then loading Ubuntu?
