When I go out of town I normally take my Acer Netbook to travel light. I ran into a problem over the weekend which I have seen before and couldn't find the cause. I used the wifi at the house I was staying at and could connect to the router via Wicd and ping outside IP addresses, however, I could not connect to any websites with Iceweasel or Midori. I receive the generic error that the browser is unable to connect. Now that I am back at my house I cannot repeat the problem, but have found a couple threads about disabling ipv6 protocol. The symptoms sound like a browser setting, but I couldn't find any settings that looked unusual.

I am working as a system administrator, i got challenging work from my team leader i.e., configuring network printer in redhat 4.2/centos 5. Initially i started with redhat linux 4.2. Unfortunately i didn't get any default man pages. I downloaded the rpm package mit-lprng.3.8.27-10-rhe4.i386.rpm and ran it. I got man pages of lpd but i couldn't able to start lpd services. then i downloaded the lpd daemon startup script from this site :Now i could able start lpd services. In server system i have configured the printer locally (shared and used LPD protocol). In client system i am unable to take test page even though it is connected to desired print server.Even some times it shows "remote host cannot accept control file(data file) 32

I have installed Ubuntu Server x64 in a VM (VMWare workstation) but have limited knowledge. Does anyone have steps on installing and configuring NDMP (Network Data Management Protocol) on an Ubuntu server? I would like to set this VM up like a NAS box so I can do some NDMP backup testing.

I used to play with gw6c ( a client for tunnel broker ) It works well with fedora9 , fedora 10, but not with leonidas. my rpm is gw6c-6.0-0.4.beta4.fc9.i386.rpm ( a little old!) when I tried to install i have got this: libcrypto.so.7 est ncessaire pou w6c-6.0-0.4.beta4.fc9.i386 I try to make a soft link to libcrypto.so.0.9.8k, but nothing; The question :-Is there a solution for that pb - did you know a better client for non native ipv6 connectivity?

I have been struggling to get FC15 to act as an IPv6 router for a while now, am sure I am missing something trivial.. The idea is that I have a ppp / adsl connection (this works fine), use the wireless card on my pc with hostapd and dhcpd to provide connections to other pcs (works fine), and radvd to delegate ipv6 addresses.
The issue seem to be that as soon as I turn on ipv6 forwarding (net.ipv6.conf.all.forwarding =1), the ppp connection no longer gets an IPv6 address. This means the router cannot ping any ipv6 address outside my network.
If I disable ipv6 routing, my router gets an IPv6 address on its ppp connection, and can ping things such as ipv6.google.com just fine, however (of course) no packets are forwarded from my network and radvd complains that forwarding is disabled.

Is there any curl API to configure only the required protocol. If I have proper openssl installed, the installed curl will have all the protocols (like HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, File etc...) supported by default. Is there any way to allow or disallow only some of the protocol at the runtime. Say I need to support only HTTPS, FILE and I dont want to allow HTTP. Is there any way to do this?

I installed ubuntu server 10.04 32-bit and I installed XRDP so I can connect to it using RDP sessions. I was wondering if there is a better alternative to it. I have the following issues with it: 1. When I connect to the server locally using rdp it works just fine the first time. Then when I close the session I cannot connect to it again (it says connection timed out). Then if I uninstall then reinstall it will work again for another time then do the same thing. 2. I receive a protocol error when using Windows 7 or RDP version 6.1.7600 (Newest RDP version)

I need to download a WMV video from RTSP protocol. I tried mplayer ; It doesn't work. According to this: [URL] I tried VLC but it doesn't work too (The link has two videos - first is intro and company logo and the second is the main video and VLC just shows first in low resolution!) In Windows "NetTransport" Can get the stream (Both Videos separately) with high resolution. I googled for a linux application and found these: [URL]
First & Second Ones dont work! Third works and gets stream with high resolution. but it just get the main video and doesn't download Intro video. It also has several bugs (Download percent ,Estimated Time,... and the most important its resume feature that writes bytes in the first of file instead of its end)
Do you know better application for downloading RTSP streaming videos (with full protocol support)?

I have a small home/office network, which currently consists of a very old mac running osx10.4, a windoze 7 laptop and an ubuntu 10.04/windoze vista laptop, along with a homebrew setup on a wii which understands smb. I'm in the process of setting up an additional ubuntu PC which will, among other things act as a file and web server, mainly for web development and for sharing files, music and videos.
Up until now I've just run everything on SMB, and I will have to set samba up on the new server, but I would prefer to use a different protocol for the ubuntu and mac systems, as SMB doesn't recognise/create file permissions properly and it takes a while sometimes to notice new files in folders it's recently looked in.

I have Ubuntu 10.10 installed on my laptop. My ISP natively supports ipv6, but since last weekend, I do not get an ipv6 ip. When I use a live cd however, I do get an ipv6 ip. For as far as I can see, all settings (/etc/network/interface and the settings in network manager) are exactly the same.
Output of ifconfig:
Code:
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX
inet addr:XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX Bcast:XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX Mask:XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX
inet6 addr: XXXX::XXXX:XXXX:XXXX:XXXX/64 Scope:Link
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
[Code].....
EDIT: is there a way to let the netwerk be automatically configured as happens during installation? It would be nice to start with a clean and new set of network config files as there were just after I installed Ubuntu on my system, without a full reinstall of my system.

I'm run 10.10 desktop x64 and when I start setting up an account in thunerbird and enter name, email address and password in the first window and go on to the next next that window flashes pop and imap very quickly before stopping with a showing of imap. There is no edit button and I have not been able to find out how to set the protocol to pop3. Is there and error? Or am I missing something. I like thunderbird and would like to continue using it but my email providers only support pop3. I'm writing to this list because I'm thinking the problem may be specific to my version of ubuntu but I'm not sure.

I just installed the latest pidgin and pidgin-facebook-chat packages on Ubuntu 11.04 and I noticed that Facebook contacts are now treated as Jabber/XMPP contacts. Before today, I could easily distinguish which protocol my contacts were on, but this is no longer the case.Does anyone have any idea on how to set the protocol icon back to Facebook's logo?

Using CentOS 5.5. I have ssh setup to use a radius server for authentication. When I use filezilla to test sftp I can successfully authenticate and get directory listings, but every time I try to download or upload a file filezilla attempts to re-authenticate which fails because the radius server uses token auth with one time passwords, so the original password used to authenticate is no longer valid. However I can browse directories all I want and it never tries to re-authenticate.
1. is this re-auth just how sftp protocol was designed? like re-auth anytime a user tries a different action, like browse vs download vs upload?
2. or am I just missing something? (very likely, I'm not real experienced with linux)

Okay so on WebUpd8 website, (url), I found a way to disable IPv6 and I was hoping to get a little more of an understanding of if I should or not from comments there, but unfortunately I haven't gotten enough to say let's do that. So I figured I might get a better understanding on here.
I am not very familiar with IPv6, but to my understanding its a newer thing that's rarely found currently with ISPs, but can be a security issue now.
