Fedora :: Error Saving The Document <filename>: Write Error. The File Could Not Be Written

Jun 5, 2010

I open an ODS file and edit it and save, fine. But sometimes and for no readily apparent reason it refuses to save the document with the error message:"Error saving the document <filename>: Write error. The file could not be written". I have upgraded my version of OpenOffice but the issue remains. Once it starts with that error the only way to save the file is to actually abandon my change and restart OOffice. Today I lost an hours stuff as the auto save was also failing but not giving me any warning it was failing. I'm not sure if this is an OpenOffice, file system, Fedora or permissions issue though I've not noticed anything similar with other applications. Have set permissions to 777 but still get the error.

Debian :: File Chooser Displays Dot Files?

Jan 28, 2011

I'm sure this is just a simple configuration issue, but not sure what to configure:

When I try to open a file from within an application (eg Open Office) and I choose "Open", a file browser pops up that allows navigation of the file system. Rather annoyingly, it shows all the dot files (and directories). There was a time when it did not, and I'm not sure what changed to make it do this.

Where do I configure this behaviour? I don't know what the file browsing thing is called. If I get a listing from ps before and after calling up the file opening tool, there is nothing extra showing.

Software :: GTK File Chooser Dialog Box Side Panel Behavior

May 10, 2011

In both Slackware 12.2 (gtk 2.12.12) and Slackware 13.1 (gtk 2.18.9), the left-hand side panel of the GTK file chooser (File Open and Save) dialog box displays three sections. The first section contains two options: Search and Recently Used. The second section contains several options. The third section are personal bookmarks I have created and stored in $HOME/.gtk-bookmarks.

Modifying the bookmarks section is straightforward, but I am searching for ways to modify the first and second sections.

1. In both 12.2 and 13.1, the second section shows the following: $HOME directory, Desktop, File System. In 13.1, several mount points now appear. I think the criterion being used is the mount point being outside the main root tree. Several of these mount points are configured in fstab with the noauto option and are user mounted only as necessary. I do not want any of these volumes appearing in that section nor the Desktop option. Is there a way to exclude those volumes and options?

2. In that same second section are two mounted volumes from a second internal drive. Those two partitions are part of my bookmarks. In 12.2 those two partitions appeared in the bookmarks section. In 13.1 those two bookmarks are ignored and instead appear in the second section. I prefer those two points appear in my bookmarks section because I prefer my own labels rather than mount point names. Is there a way to do that?

3. Is there an option in $HOME/.config/gtk-2.0/filechooser.ini to control the width of the side panel?

Debian Multimedia :: Remove Unwanted Shortcuts In GTK3 File Chooser?

Nov 22, 2015

There are these shortcuts in the GTK3 file chooser: [URL] ....

With the exception of "desktop" which I included in the red box by mistake, I don't want those shorcuts to be there. I've even deleted most of those folders from my home directory because I have no use for them, but the shortcuts remain even after the folders are gone.

How to remove/disable these shortcuts? And while I'm at it, I notice that it's not using my selected icon theme for those icons. Any way to make it use my choice of icon theme?

Programming :: Sed - Save Output To File With Filename From Content Of Another File?

Feb 28, 2011

My employer issues pdf files with everyones work schedules. I copy the content and save it as plain text in a file called unformatted (hope to be able to automate this step someday). Im working on a SED script that reduces unformatted to only display what I want to see and saves the result in a file Iïve named formatted. After that I have to manually copy formatted and save it with that days date as a filename e.g. 2011-02-25 or whatever day is scheduled in the pdf, for use on a mobile device (Nokia N900). I noticed that the date occurs on certain lines in the file so I added a line like:

sed -n 's/^Date: (201[1-9])/([0-1][0-9])/([0-3][0-9]).*/1-2-3/p' < unformatted >theDate
That creates a file theDate with the date in it that I wish to use as the filename for this particular instance. So I would like to skip the file formatted all together and have the sed- script write to a new file using the content of the Date as a filename, but how do I make that happen? And of course it would be more elegant if I could skip the intermediate theDate file as well.

Ubuntu :: Cannot Delete File With Backslash In Filename

Feb 6, 2011

Ubuntu 10.04 Guest in VirtualBox

I'm trying to delete a file called

Code:
springlobby_config.h

I've tried:

Code:
rm -i *

which gives me:

Code:
rm: cannot remove `springlobby_config\.h': No such file or directory

Tried to rename it:

Code:
mv * abc

which gives me:

Code:
mv: cannot stat `springlobby_config\.h': No such file or directory

I don't think it's a permissions issue because usually the terminal would say permission denied, but perhaps I'm wrong.

Ubuntu :: Nautilus Doesn't Focus On The File When Keystroke Of Filename

Dec 1, 2010

When you open up a file browser, if there are tons of files in some directory, it will be tedious to locate the desired one mannually. For most of the file browsers, the desired file will be located automatically by obtaining the focus when you type the filename. I don't believe that Nautilus doesn't have this feature. So, there must be something I can configure with. Note that I'm just using the default Nautilus with fresh Ubuntu installation.

Programming :: Check That The Same File Exists Within Two Different Directories Using A Filename As A Variable?

Apr 30, 2010

I am in need of a way to check that the same file exists within two different directories using a filename as a variable. Here is the process which requires it: The script is reaches out (via ftp) and pulls down a file(s) and delete it afterwards. This is halfhazard because in the instance it doesnt pull down the file, yet still deletes it, we are up a creek. I am looking to pull it down to a temp location and then verify that file exists in the location in which it needs to be present to process before deleting it, adding a little extra layer for security. The script itself is finished. If I put a file name in manually it works perfect. I just need a way to pump the filename into the variable.

General :: Filename Beginning With Left Bracket: File Cannot Be Erased

Nov 28, 2010

Kernel 2.6.21.5, Slackware 12.0

I saved a page from Linuxquestions. It was saved under a filename beginning with '[' (left square bracket). And I now can't delete the file. Unfortunately I cannot send you a screenshot because opening a terminal in the GUI makes ls behave differently. I shall try to describe, assuming the file is in dir '.'. Also let '[SOLVED]foo.html' be the file in question:

Code:
$ ls
<the file is listed>
$ ls [*
/bin/ls: cannot access [*: No such file or directory
$

If I want the hdd to get rid of this file, what should I do? Any hint will be welcome.

I added a printk command in the driver in the ioctl function, however looking at kern.log I can see that this function is never being called.
