Ubuntu :: Freetalk USB Headset Profile In Pulseaudio
Apr 24, 2010
I've been using a Freetalk USB Headset for a while on my Sony Vaio. It worked fine. Did a bit of travelling and used a different USB headset. Returned home, plugged in the Freetalk headset and find that Pulseaudio only sees the microphone part and not the speaker part. Using PAV Volume Control Configuration, against the Freetalk headset I only get the profile options of "Analog Mono Input" or "Off". When I first set it up, ages ago, I remember getting a load of options here and set the one for input and output. How to I get more options to set up the headset properly?

I have a bluetooth headset with both support of HSP/HFP and A2DP. My goal is to connect this headset to my cell phone (over HSP/HFP) and to the PC (over A2DP) simultaneously, but ubuntu always connects both profiles.
I've tried to set following values in /etc/bluetooth/audio.conf:

Having trouble with pulseaudio (0.9.21, Debian Squeeze) failing to properly recognize a Turtle Beach X-ray headset?
My tv connects fine, playing Dolby Digital through it without issue, but my computer doesn't. (A possible side effect: Flash videos play in slow-mo when the headset is connected to the computer's bluetooth adapter, but not when the headset is disconnected.)
Is there a way to tell Pulseaudio to give the headset 6 channels?
Some info:
Code: Select all~ » pulseaudio --dump-modules
module-alsa-card ALSA Card
module-alsa-sink ALSA Sink
module-alsa-source ALSA Source
module-always-sink Always keeps at least one sink loaded even if it's a null one
module-augment-properties Arugment the property sets of streams with additional static information
module-bluetooth-device Bluetooth audio sink and source

I've had nothing but trouble with Pulseaudio in Fedora 14. I had managed to get rid of it in Fedora 10 with the command: su -c "yum remove alsa-plugins-pulseaudio pulseaudio" I just don't want to have to deal with Pulseaudio anymore. It does not like my sound card and gets in the way. Is there a Linux distribution that does not use Pulseaudio ?

I've already gotten into the .mozilla folder and found the profiles.ini file. My windows XP system has it's Documents and Settings folder on a seperate drive (D:Documents and settings) And I've located the profile (application datamozillafirefoxprofiles) Now all I need to do is put the path into the profiles.ini file in the .mozilla folder in Ubuntu. The problem is I don't know exactly how to format it.
In windows the path is:
How would I translate this into something ubuntu "follows?" I already have the profile name changed as well.

short version: My bluetooth headset keeps disconnecting.Full version:I'm using a 64-bit distro of 9.10 on a 1.6 GHz AMD Turion 64 laptop, with an external bluetooth dongle and a bluetooth headset. The dongle is recognized right off, the headset pairs perfectly through the bluetooth preferences panel, and sound redirects through the soundpreferences panel... For about 2 minutes. I know, it's odd, but every 2 minutes or so bluetooth disconnects from the headset. Sound shifts to the speakers, the applications don't miss a beat, and when I reconnect the headset through the bluetooth control it shifts right back to the headset. This happens regardless of other programs running. I tried it with no other applications running, and with a fairly heavy load, and it reoccurs. Here's the odd part: I had the CPU set on "Ondemand," to save battery power, but when I plugged in and shifted it to "Performance," it started happening ever 4 minutes or so...I've Googled around and found plenty about getting my headset to connect, but nothing about KEEPING it connected

I gotta say that Ubuntu 9.10 is a fantastic OS. I've been dual booting for about 4 years with Ubuntu and I want to scream to the world that Linux is finally a better OS than Mac or Windows. Having said that, I have an issue that I can't get around...
For some reason my USB headset is not being detected. I'm using the 32 bit version of Ubuntu 9.10 on a run-of-the-mill Intel-based desktop rig that I built myself. One of the mass-market programs that I still use is Skype so I can voice chat with friends and family - however, since the upgrade to 9.10 I can't get the mic to work (Plantronics USB headset - headset speakers work fine). The reason I can't get it to work is because the headset is not detected. The audio setting is set to "Analog Stereo Output" by default which does work perfectly in every other way.

So I'm trying to get my usb headset to work. Right now I can adjust the volume and mute using the buttons on the headset, but I can't get sound toplay through it or the microphone to work. When I go to System --> Preferences --> Sound I can see that there is a driver "USB PnP Sound Device" under the "Hardware" tab. When I go to the output tab and click on the "USB PnP Sound Device" then I just can't hear anything at all. I can adjust the volume with my headset regardless of whether I have "Internal Audio Analog Stereo" or "USB PnP Sound Device

So I picked up a really cheap BT USB dongle (~$2) and can use the mic just fine but audio won't work. code...
I figure that I'm just overlooking something (I checked all the volume sliders and "mute" checkboxes I could find) or that I need to get a better BT dongle. Any thoughts?

I have Ubuntu 9.10, and am trying to get my headset to work with it. It's a USB headset, not a bluetooth headset. Anyway, the input is working. I switched my input from my internal mic to my USB one in my sound settings, and that fixed that. However, even if I set my output device to the USB, it still doesn't work. Does anyone have any advice? It works on Windows.
The headset is: Planet UP-100, Genius G-Talk

I just upgraded to ubuntu 10.04 and everything is ok except my USB Logitech Headset. The problem is that volume of the device is very low and I can't hear the music or any sound like I use to heard. Even if I increase the volume up to 100%, I still hearing the sound with a very low volume. But if I use the analog output of my sound card I can hear very well. I remember that i used to have this problem in ubuntu 9.10 but I fixed with a script that I found it in this forum, but I can't find it again.

Hi, I have a Creative HS-1200 headset. When I am listening to sound through it, and something makes a motion on screen(compiz, movie...really anything) then the sound is distorted. Like it takes a nanosecond pauses to redraw. This does not happen with my normal soundcard. Can anyone tell me how can I fix this?

I just bought a USB gigaware headset, and I have been trying to get them to work on my laptop, which has Ubuntu 9.10.
Unfortunately, they do not appear to be recognized almost anywhere, the only place where I have been able to find a reference to them was by using dmesg.

I have a Microsoft LX-3000 USB headset that has been working fine for me on all of my Ubuntu machines... until today. I accidentally clicked on "Hibernate" instead of "Shut Down" on my Lucid laptop this morning, and something seemed a little off about the hibernation process, although I don't remember exactly what happened. Anyway, since I woke this machine up, I can't get sound out of the headset. I've plugged it into multiple USB ports and can still use the microphone and the volume controls just fine, but there's no output. (Yes, I've made sure the device is enabled for output in my sound preferences).

I have a bluetooth headset that I hope I can get to work with Ubuntu 10.10 so that I can use it with Skype.I am using these instructions to get it to work. However, there are some differences between my experience and what I expect from the instructions, ultimately leading to some errors.First, I should mention that according to Blueman device manager, it would seem I have successfully paired my device. It has a MAC address. I have attached a screen shot of the interface:It sure looks like the device is recognized by my system. However, when I get to step 5, the MAC address of the one device I see is not the same as the one in the interface above:

I have a Sony Ericsson HBH-PV700 bluetooth headset that came packaged with a Sony Ericsson K510i phone.I was hoping to be able to use it under Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat as a headset and POSSIBLY as a microphone...I don't think it supports a2dp, so maybe this is a waste of effort. The Bluetooth adapter I'm using is Bluetooth 2.0 compilant, as far as I know. (It may be 1.2, but there's no way it's 1.1 compilant).
I have paired it with my PC and tried finding it as output and input in the Sound Preferences...no option. There's nothing in [System > Preferences > Multimedia Systems Selector] either! I have also tried the instructions at the Ubuntu Community Help Pages for Bluetooth Headset. However, my system fails to initialise the module-alsa-sink and module-alsa-source via the pactl command .I don't even know if it is possible with this device, but I'm willing to give anything a try! P.S. I'm not comfortable with installing a ton of packages just for one thing, but if there's no other option it's fine, I guess.

I can get my Plantronics USB headset to work with Skype. So far so good.
However if I plug the headset in to use with skype, I have to go to sound preferences to get the usb headset to be the selected audio device. It is automatically detected but is not selected.
Is there a way to have ubuntu netbook remix automatically select the usb headset as soon as it is detected after being plugged in?
Win7 behaves this way and my wife is used to it. Visiting the sound preferences every time the headset is plugged in won't do. Answering a call in Skype requires that the headset be selected straight away. Leaving it plugged in all the time isn't convenient either.
ASUS EeePC 900
Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.10, recently updated.
Don't want to have to resort to installing Win7 again.
