I have very basic info about Linux. I'm using Linux server 11.04 . I'm using the server as a web server to send SMS messages. I have a php page: read data from mysql and then send SMS (according to retrieved data) , this page is already done and store in www dir. I want this page is execute in the background each 10 sec. is that possible in crontab?
i created a /tmp partition amd mounted it like this:" mount -o loop, noexec, nosuid,rw /usr/tmpDSK /tmp" I know i can't execute things in /tmp now but is there a way to execute only one file and no more???
I'm trying to execute some actions when there's no keyboard action in "x" seconds or minutes (after "x" seconds or minutes of keyboard inactivity), but is hard to find something about this...
and i don't know if this will make a lot of cpu usage
Sometimes while using Open Office, trying to open a file the dialog box takes 15 to 30 seconds of spinning balls until it shows me anything. Then changing a directory takes another 15 to 30 seconds. Visual feedback on selections take several seconds, and often I find myself a couple of subdirectories down from where I wanted to go due to caching of unacknowledged clicks.
My system is usually very, very fast, as one would expect from the specs. This problem happened, well, almost all the time with kernel 2.6.32-21-generic, now it just started happening again with 2.6.32-22-generic.During these slowdowns, opening Dolphin reveals the same problem, exceedingly slow response. While this is happening, top shows the system is not busy, and the hard disk light is not flashing. Idle is over 90% and user and sys are basically nothing. The system is basically doing nothing while making me wait.
I was doing a tutorial on scripting in bash. I saved my file on the desktop and I cannot seem to get to that file to execute it. Here is what I have been using:
I try cd Desktop says that there is no such directory.
AMD64, Ubuntu 10.10 64bit os, with onboard video.Works really well all the way to 1680X1050 resolution, but I get this error every 10 seconds added to my syslog.
Suppose I have a binary program with only execute permission enabled for the current user. How (in general) would I be able to obtain a core dump of the file? I think I have read it somewhere but I want to know if there are more ways of doing it.
Movie and translation are 32 seconds out of sync. There are 2 ways to resolve:
1. edit all zillion lines of translation (daunting, I couldnt find tool)
2. add 32 seconds of nothing or whatever to the beginning of a video file
No2 may be quicker, but I do not know how.. I am not good with ffmpeg... also, if I want to join some 32 seconds, lets say of my XVid recording, I need to prepare it to be the same as film, so it is also complicated. how to add 32 sec? I tried openShot (couldnt find option). Cinellera is giving me strange errors, about audio codec and something I dont understand... I am confused in using both tools
What are the possible problem when Windows access the file from Ubuntu got Read Only even though have a full permission to read, write and execute the file? Ubuntu to Ubuntu accessing the file there is no problem only Windows got a problem.
Ubuntu version 10.10File location inside a folder on DesktopFile extn : .shI need to run this file in terminal console, but what path to be given is the question.
I'm trying to install this app called genBlast. It's a bioinformatics tool that does some cool stuff (I guess the actual use doesn't matter that much). Anyway, it comes as a .tar.gz folder with about a dozen executables in it; no compiling necessary. I extracted it to the desktop so I didn't have to worry about permissions, and then just tried to run it from inside the directory (it's a command line app).
All of the executables work with a ./ except one, and it's the most important one for that matter. When I go to run it, I get the error message Code: bash: ./genblast: cannot execute binary file I've checked permissions with ls -l, run a chmod 'u+x' just to make sure, and everything else I can think of. But it just won't work. Also, I just installed it on another computer and it works fine, so I'm pretty sure it's on my end.
I am using Karmic. I just downloaded Cinelerra from sourceforge. Apparently there is no installation, you just run the binary (according to the Readme). The binary is set to be executable (-rwxr-xr-x), but when I double click it in nautilus nothing happens. When I go to the app directory in the terminal and do:
im trying to execute a file. When I try i get the message:
The file ...Installer.exe is not marked as executable. If this was downloaded or copied from an untrusted source, it may be dangerous to run...
So when I right click on the file and select properties>permissions and check the 'allow executing file as program' it instantly unchecks the box. I can't check the box.
so i followed the directions on the MagicQ website, but when I try to execute the magicq file in the terminal it says that it is not a command. I figured this when i unpacked it, but i think that i am missing something..
Means I want to execute two executables one by one at the same time as shown below:execute1 execute2these are two executables. but the second one is executed after 1st one is closed is there any way two execute both. One way isgnome-terminal -e execute1execute2but here i want to hide the terminal window..........
Downloading Virtual box, I saw a link with title All distributions on its home page:
VirtualBox-3.2.8-64453-Linux_x86.run
I have not downloaded it yet, I wanted to know how to execute it ? I've never seen a .run file before ! Does this mean this file is supposed to run on all distributions ?
I am using RHEL 5 and i have configured a daemon that starts automatically when system boots, i have written its startup script on /etc/rc.d/rc.local file and it executes successfully but the problem is that if that daemon stops running (due to any reason) i have to restart/reboot the whole server so that the daemon runs, i need to know that is there a way that we can just re-executes the /etc/rc.d/rc.local file while the whole sytem remains as it is.
started setting up my 3rd ubuntu server under the OS of Ubuntu Linux 9.04 64 bit. I have configured the server to allow root access and am using this to execute this file. As you can see from the screenshot of PuTTy, the file exists but is refusing to load up. I am also able to nano the file. I have tried moving the file to /root/ and still had no luck.
I'm new to Fedora, and haven't used any flavor of Linux in years. I'm attempting to run a few benchmarks that were given to me by my instructor, but every one I try to run gives an error "Cannot execute binary file". For instance,.inp.inThis command gives an error:bash: ./Mcf: cannot execute binary fileIt is not a permission problem, I have confirmed the file has execute permissions (one of the things I still remembered after all these years). I suspect all the benchmarks I have been given were compiled on Ubuntu. Would this be causing the problem? I do not have access to the source code, so I cannot recompile. If that is the problem, is there a way around it that doesn't involve throwing away a weekend and starting fresh on Ubuntu?
I found a Linux .x86 binary file that I've been looking for, but not sure what to do with it. Does this (*.x86) binary file format seem like something that could simply be run by command, or something that would need to be compiled first? There is not much information that I could find regarding the particularly file.
I want a quick and simple way to execute a command whenever a file changes. I want something very simple, something I will leave running on a terminal and close it whenever I'm finished working with that file. Currently, I'm using this: while read; do ./myfile.py ; done And then I need to go to that terminal and press Enter, whenever I save that file on my editor. What I want is something like this: while sleep_until_file_has_changed myfile.py ; do ./myfile.py ; done
Or any other solution as easy as that. BTW: I'm using Vim, and I know I can add an autocommand to run something on BufWrite, but this is not the kind of solution I want now. Update: I want something simple, discardable if possible. What's more, I want something to run in a terminal because I want to see the program output (I want to see error messages).
there i searched 100 of pages but cant find answer to this simple stuff why i'm not able to install qt on my fedora 64 I'm running fedora 64 on virtual box on win 7 host want to install [qt-sdk-linux-x86_64-opensource-2010.04.bin] tried chmod 777 qt and ./qt but every time i do that is gives me bash: ./qt cannot execute bin file i'm logged in as route checked permission using ls -asl and looks fine also sorry to forum moderators as i posted same question in article submission section. sorry as this is my first post.
I tried to restart my httpd service.cannot execute binary file seems like the HTTPD wasnt stopped while it should be stopped. it skipped the 'stop' and just right away jump into 'start' command. my case is i just changed some php.ini configuration, and to have it changed i need to restart after changes.am i correct if i say my '/bin/rm' and '/bin/touch' files are corrupted?
