There seems to be a common solution to get the webcam working with Skype - rather than launching with Skype you launch with LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib32/libv4l/v4l2convert.so skype - so far so good. When I do this I get the error There was an error launching the application. Details: Failed to execute child process "LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib32/libv4l/v4l2convert.so" (No such file or directory). Now I am using Live CD.
I just updated from 9.04 to 9.10 (it's a long story, and I still can't go beyond 2.30).The update got rid of WICD, which is what I used and installed network-manager. Network-manager was not working at all, so I uninstalled it again and installed WICD. I could connect perfectly and had no problems.However, now the computer hangs during boot, saying that init can't start network-manager. I assume that something went wrong during the uninstalling process, since it wasn't updated.
This is the message: init: Failed to spawn network-manager main process: unable to execute: No such file or directory.
So how do I update it or manually change it so it stops requesting network-manager?
My machine is dual booted with Fedora 14 and RHEL 6. (I have only installed Red Hat because I am studying for RHCE). Just now I tried to install the Banshee player on my Red Hat OS. I ran various scripts inside the directory to see what really happens and after I ran the 'Makefile.in' file my terminal froze. It displayed '/bin/ not found'Then i restarted my computer and I got the following messages:

View 10 Replies View RelatedI am running F11 and I want to mount an FTP, but when I try to connect to an ftp server using Places -> Connect to Server, or the bookmarks I made I get an error that says 'Failed to execute child process "/usr/lib/firefox-3.5/firefox" (No such file or directory)' and sometimes it mounts anyway, but most the time it doesn't, and it never connects to the folder I asked it to, I just have to open the mount and navigate to it. I figure this happened because Firefox upgraded to 3.5.1 and the folder is now /usr/lib/firefox-3.5.1/firefox, but I don't know how to update this so that it looks in the right location.

I have not downloaded it yet, I wanted to know how to execute it ? I've never seen a .run file before ! Does this mean this file is supposed to run on all distributions ?
I've just installed subversion.I need to create a script /etc/init.d/svnserve that will start at boot time.I want to use start-stop-daemon --start so I can track my process and eventually kill it using start-stop-daemon --stop.My problem is that I can't get it to work and the documentation shows no exemple.
I've replaced $DAEMON by the whole line: svnserve -d -R -r $REPO_ROOT and got -d is not an option.I'm not quite sure what to do at that point. If someone has some experience with start-stop-daemon it would be great.
Just figured this one out and thought I'd post it here in case it helped someone else. Skype just upgraded itself from 2.1 to 2.2. After upgrading it didn't start, and I got the message
"failed to execute child process skype-wrapper" First test out if skype runs from the command line, by running this in a terminal
Code: skype & If it runs, you're good to go: simply right click on the menu, locate your entry for skype and change the command to launch it from skype-wrapper to skype. The reason for this is that in the 2.1 version, skype needed a script called skype-wrapper to set some varibles before start up. Upgrading removes the script, but failed to update the menu entry.
I have a computation going which takes a long, but uncertain, amount of time. I have another computation which needs to be run, but _after_ the first one is done. I won't be at the computer at that time to manually start the new process. I've done some Googling, and I found how to delay execution by a specific amount of time (e.g. "start process x in exactly 8 minutes from now), but that isn't quite what I want to do. Essentially, I'd like to tell the shell, "When process #nnnn finishes running, then start process x". Is there a way to do this?

I want something very simple, something I will leave running on a terminal and close it whenever I'm finished working with that file. Currently, I'm using this: while read; do ./myfile.py ; done And then I need to go to that terminal and press Enter, whenever I save that file on my editor. What I want is something like this: while sleep_until_file_has_changed myfile.py ; do ./myfile.py ; done
Or any other solution as easy as that. BTW: I'm using Vim, and I know I can add an autocommand to run something on BufWrite, but this is not the kind of solution I want now. Update: I want something simple, discardable if possible. What's more, I want something to run in a terminal because I want to see the program output (I want to see error messages).
For example, I write the file like in vi or something. I wanna execute but no one read , write and execute but one more thing no one to view the file like encrypt the file.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI want to execute a program at the very last step of Linux boot process. For Debian based Linux distro that uses BSD boot process, I came up with 2 solutions:
1) I should somehow call my program from the /etc/rc.local script (although is this the last step of the boot process?)
2) Use the "multi_end" and "sysinit_end" hooks for executing it at the end of rc.multi rc.sysinit respectively (I don't know how to do it though).
Is there any use if a file has only write and execute permission and not read permission?

What options do I need to add to the ssh invocation so that the batch file executes the lines following the ssh invocation over the connection?
e.g., with sftp it's simply adding a -b /dev/stdin and then << EOF at the end; how do I do this with SSH?
