Ubuntu :: Emulate Windows Version Of Skype?
Nov 17, 2010
I need to have a skype version which supports conference call. The linux version only supports if i call and not if someone call me, (at least as far as i know.)
And as the windows version of skype does not work in wine, i have to find another solution.
I heard Cedega Emulates? (does it only support games?)
I guess i can use virtual box and have skype in that but, wouldn't it be really slow to start skype then? (First start windows from virtualbox then start skype?

I would really like to configure compiz to emulate the Windows 7 edge actions. In case you haven't used Windows 7, the actions I'm interested in are: Drag window to top of the screen - maximize Drag window to left side of screen - take up the left half of the screen Drag window to right side of screen - take up the right half of the screen
Those are really the only ones I care about. I know I used to be able to do this in Karmic, but I forgot to back up my compiz settings when installing Lucid, and I can't remember how I had it configured before.

These are 2 cool shortcuts in Windows 7:
[Windows+Left] - Dock window to the left side
[Windows+Right] - Dock window to the right side
When you press Windows + left arrow the active window occupies 50% of the screen (on the left), and when you press Windows + right arrow the active window occupies 50% of the screen on the right. I have tried to set this up with gnome on Ubuntu but have't managed it so far. I am sure this can be setup in gnome. How can it be done? In summary this splits two windows on the screen so one window occupies 50% of screen on left and the other on the right, how can this be setup and executed pronto on ubuntu?

I predominantly use Ubuntu at home, which means I am used to "highlight 'copies' and center click 'pastes'" (I believe this is true for all X-windows-sever machines, but I don't know). Unfortunately, that is not the behavior on the machines I use at work (I have a Mac and Win 7.). Is there an application which would let me imitate this mouse behavior for either of those OS's?

Does anyone have an rpm or a link to an rpm of Skype 2.0.27 or prior? This latest (2.1) beta version just isn't working for me and skype seems to have taken all other releases off their website.

I am still fairly new at using Ubuntu however I have Ubuntu 9.04 64b installed on my newly constructed Intel dual core PC. Everything is working fine however I have just installed the Skype beta deb package for Ubuntu 8.10+ 64b and it won't let me sign on. The installation as far as I know went fine however when I go to enter my UN and PW the "Sign In" button will not light up.

Code:
/opt/skype_static-2.0.0.72/skype
My System:I use the mic of headphone connected to talk ,while uses the System Speakers for incoming audio. This is FWIW ,works for me:
First:
Code:
yum -y install alsa-plugins-pulseaudio padevchooser.x86_64 paman.x86_64 paprefs.x86_64 pavucontrol.x86_64 pavumeter.x86_64 pulseaudio-utils.x86_64 Configure your pulseaudio volume control using Pulseaudio Device Chooser(menu Applications>Sound and Video) to have comfortable level of volume in your headphone/mic . Also ,go to Gnome Volume Control and enable channel sources for mic volume input etc accordingly.
My Policy is to install the minimum no. of 32-bit dependencies.still skype v2 32-bit asks for. :

I need help in getting Skype to work with Debian Squeeze. The problem is that there's no 64 bit version of Skype for Debian Squeeze and the other versions (Skype static and Skype Ubuntu 64 bit) makes Skype crash after login. Is it possible to get the 32bit version of Skype working with Debian Squeeze and how about other solutions?

I would like to assign right-mouse-click behaviour to a hardware button. I can associate a keypress, or a combination of keypresses with an "xdotool click 3" command via the Gnome keyboard shortcuts.
I have the scancode of the hardware button so can use
setkeycodes scancode keycode
to mimic any key of my keyboard. However, I don't want the hardware button to mimic a single key of my keyboard that is already in use, since then the keyboard key will also activate xdotool.
So I think I need:
- either a way to associate that particular scancode with an (outlandish) keypress combo rather than a single keypress;
- or a keycode which is not currently in use, to bind to the scancode. Are there any like that and how would I find out? In the Gnome Keyboard Shortcuts list there is stuff like "XF86AudioMedia" which I'm not using -- but does that correspond to a numerical keycode value which setkeycodes understands?

I have an international skype interview planned in 10 minutes, and my flatmates computer is now opening up using Windows, and Skype is not there! I know he changes back and forth from Windows to Linux on this computer, he lets me use it often. And when I use Linux, it has Skpye! Question: Is there a simple way to reboot the computer back into Linux???

I'm replacing an ancient Netware server with a new Ubuntu 8.04 box running samba and LDAP. I want to see if there's a way to get Samba to emulate the way permissions propagate through Netware. Namely, if I see a directory structure like this:
[User Cant See]
--- [User Cant See]
------- User Can Edit.txt
------- User CANT Edit.txt
With Netware I can give permission to User to edit "User Can Edit.txt" and the permissions will propagate in reverse to allow User to see the two [User Cant See] directories and edit the text file. "User CANT Edit.txt" will still be invisible to User. This is very convenient as I can simply give user access to one file, they can navigate to it through the directory structure, and all files not explicitly given access to will still be invisible.
With Samba the only way I've been seeing to get this would be to explicitly give User access to both [User Cant See] directories, give him access to the "User Can Edit.txt" and remove any access to "User CANT Edit.txt" and every other file in the latter two nested directories.

I want to install Debian but I'd like to keep my Skype chat history.
I don't know if it's possible to just copy from %appdata% the skype folder and put it into the Debian's one.
How could I do? I read one post but it's quite old, so maybe there's something new now.

We are using a program who connect to other server using xterm over telnet. Our programmer needs to migrate t vt100 over ssh (why... I don't know cleary, but we prefer ssh because is more secure). But we have problems with some keys. If we press F8 program use another convination of keys and we can't find the way to modificate it.
Actually we are using something like that:
Down: (byte)0x1B, (byte)0x4F, (byte)0x42
PageDown: (byte)0x1B, (byte)0x5B, (byte)0x36, (byte)0x7E

I am running Linux Ubuntu on a Dell Inspiron laptop that I bought at a garage sale for 50 cents. After spending quite a few hours resurrecting it, it works just fine except for the left and right mouse buttons on the touch pad. They do not function. Is there a way to emulate the left and right mouse buttons from the keyboard?(I know that I can just plug in a mouse, but I would rather just use the keyboard if possible.)
