Ubuntu :: Dream Studio: Bar Not Shown At The Bottom Of Screen In GDM

Jul 9, 2010

I've installed KDE 4 in Dream Studio 10.10, as I'd like to switch over to KDE 4 like I've done in my netbook. The problem I'm having is even with the user name selected with a password box displayed, there's no bar at the bottom of the screen in GDM. I prefer GDM instead of KDM because I like the fact that I can select a user even though I'm the only user, but I do like the behavior of Windows XP/Vista/7 (select a user, hit enter, enter the password, and hit enter to login, but that's not as close to how KDM works if there's only a single user in the system -- no big deal).how do I get the bar appear in the bottom of the screen after I select the user in GDM?

Ubuntu :: Monitor Off Center - Bottom Of Tool-bar On The Bottom Of The Screen Is Cut Off

May 22, 2010

So about an hour ago I put my computer on standby. For whatever reason I couldn't bring it back so I restarted it. It works fine except now Ubuntu has pushed my display down. This means that the bottom of my tool-bar on the bottom of the screen is cut off, and there's a black bar on the top. I'm using a T.V. screen so there is no way I can manually adjust it. I also plugged my desktop back into an old monitor and it was off-center downward too.

General :: Dell Studio 1535 Screen Resolution - System Won't Get Past The Loading Screen Anymore

Aug 4, 2010

Unfortunately my experience in the Unix* based world up to this point has only been using web servers and administrating them, no GUI experience of any kind so I am completely unfamiliar with the setup and entire usage of Xorg or any other Window manager at this point. The issue I am having is with the screen resolutions I am being allowed to chose for my Dell Studio 1535 running Fedora Core 13 and the KDE 4 desktop GUI, thus my issue since I am not really familiar with how to run a Unix* based GUI in the first place.

The basic information, if there is more needed just advise what and what command gathers that info (or what conf/log I should look into in order to find it). Laptop is a Dell Studio 1535 Video is the Mobile Intel GMA X3100 ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics. LCD interface is the LVDS.

So far it seems to give me modes for 1024x768 and on down, nothing above this. I believe I am supposed to use the radeon driver being that is the type of card it is but every time I change the xorg.conf file to use this instead of vesa the system wont get past the loading screen anymore upon reboot and nor can I seem to find a way to bring up a command line so I can hit up the Xorg.0.log to see what is wrong or change the xorg.conf file back to the original driver it had listed.

I am going to assume this is a missing driver or something else it hangs on but without being able to get access back to the system and having to rebuild it again (re-install via live CD) I am basically out of luck at this time. Sorry for the rather poor post but I do hope to receive some basic directions on where to go from here with this issue

Ubuntu :: Pointer Drifts To Top Of Screen (10.04 Studio)

Aug 14, 2010

I did a clean install of Ubuntu Studio 10.04 (64bit) a few days ago. Everything has been running fine for a few days. Yesterday, while working in an html editor (Kompozer) and Firefox, the cursur stareted drifting to the top of the screen. It still responds to the mouse, but I am working against this pull and as soon as I stop moving the mouse, the cursor goes to the top again. It doesn't go left or right, just straight up. I had 8.01 on this before and never had nay issues like this. I have a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse, but there is no trackpad on the keyboard.

I've tried shutting off the mouse power and rebooting with a regular wired mouse, and I get the same behavior. I don't have another keyboard right now, so I haven't tried disconnecting the wireless transceiver all together.

Ubuntu Installation :: Upgrade Studio Lucid Directly To Studio Maverick?

Jan 9, 2011

I'm currently using Ubuntu Studio Lucid and would like to use Ubuntu Studio Maverick, but I'm unsure how to go about the upgrade. Should I upgrade to generic ubuntu maverick then upgrade to ubuntu studio? Or install ubuntu studio maverick from a DVD?? Or something else?? I should say that I have a separate /home partition.

[Edited because what I first wrote was confusing:] when I started the process of upgrading with Update Manager it said that quite a lot of things would be removed (it would be upgrading only to generic Ubuntu for one thing)---I aborted that by the way. I was wondering if anybody knew of a way to avoid having to first sort of note everything that I have installed, then do the upgrade to generic Ubuntu, then do an upgrade to Ubuntu Studio, then reinstall all of the apps in their newer versions. Might there be a way to upgrade the OS itself first and then just directly update the apps without having to reinstall them, figuring out what to install all over again too?

Happens pretty regularly, but for example, a moment ago, I was trying to switch to Google Public DNS, in the network preferences, have to click apply/ok but cannot do so as the menu box is larger than the screen. Is there a way to scroll down or make the window smaller so that I can click buttons outside standard screen.

Fedora :: Cursor Always Goes To Bottom Right Of Screen

Jul 26, 2009

I booted up to Fedora today (kernel 2.6.29.5-191.fc11.x86_64) and found that after logging in, my cursor was in the bottom right hand part of the monitor. When I moved the mouse the cursor moved in the right direction but then immediately returned to the bottom right of the screen. When I click the mouse I get the options I would expect to have if the mouse was in the corner and the keyboard also works fine. So right now I can't do anything that requires a mouse since the cursor doesn't like leaving the corner of the screen. I can't even get the updates installed (hoping they might resolve they issue somehow) since I can't click anything.

The only thing that I did before this happened was installed a whole mess of updates and installed nvidia drivers.
