Ubuntu :: Delete Button Not Working?

Feb 26, 2011

I an running Ubuntu 10.04 and for some very strange reason, everything works just fine except for the delete button. Usually I wouldn't be concerned about this, but lately, I've taken to programming in vi so the delete button is pretty useful.

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Intel PRO 2100 Not Working - RF Killswitch Button Not Working At All?

Feb 18, 2010

I followed the sticky about setting up wireless and I have come to an issue where the WLAN switch which is on this computer can be pressed, the light comes on, but no WLAN. When I looked in dmesg, this is what I get:

ipw2100: Detected Intel PRO/Wireless 2100 Network Connection
firmware: requesting ipw2100-1.3.fw
eth0: Radio is disabled by RF switch.

When running iwconfig wlan0 heres what I get:

home/j-dub # iwconfig eth0
wlan0 unassociated ESSID off/any Nickname:"ipw2100"
Mode:Managed Channel=0 Access Point: Not-Associated

[code]....

Notice it says that the 'Radio is disabled by switch' in dmesg. I can press that switch until the end of the world comes and it does absolutely nothing but make the WLAN light put on a light show. And it shows the wlan to be unassociated with any clients. So, what are my options to get this Wireless up and working?

Computer/OS info:

Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo M7400
1.4GHz Intel Centrino R

Ubuntu :: Mouse Button No Longer Working

May 19, 2010

I have a 'Microsoft Comfort Optical Mouse 3000'. In addition to the regular left/right click and scroll wheel it has an extra button on the side. In previous versions of Ubuntu I was able to remap this button to act as double-click using 'xbindkeys'. However, in Lucid this no longer seems to work. X seems to know about all of the buttons on the mouse since 'xinput' lists the device as having 13 buttons and labels button 8 as 'Button Side'. However, 'xev' does not show a button event when I press the button. Instead it shows:

Ubuntu :: Power Button Not Working In Lubuntu?

Sep 25, 2010

Recently i've switched from ubuntu 8.04 to Lubuntu 10.04, since that time the powerbutton does not work anymore.I've tried to find out how powermanagement is implemented in ubuntu to be able to debug this problem. But most documentation about this topic seems dated.I've already tried a few thing, most important stuff I did is:

- tested the scripts in /etc/acpi/ and added a line to write something to a textfile when its called. But this file is not called when pressing the powerbutton.

- checked bios settings, seems alright (and these settings worked on 8.04 to).

Ubuntu :: Visual Effects Preferences Button Not Working

May 4, 2010

I just installed Ubuntu 10.04. I added the simple-ccsm package through apt-get. I like the new option I now have under the Visual Effects tab in Appearance Preferences. I can now choose None, Normal, Extra, or Custom. The problem is when I click the "Preferences" button beside custom nothing happens. It should open simple-ccsm. In fact if I try to run simple-ccsm from the terminal I get this;

/usr/bin/simple-ccsm:40: DeprecationWarning: Use the new widget gtk.Tooltip
Tooltips = gtk.Tooltips()
/usr/bin/simple-ccsm:182: DeprecationWarning: Use the new widget gtk.Tooltip
Tooltips = gtk.Tooltips()
/usr/bin/simple-ccsm:545: DeprecationWarning: Use the new widget gtk.Tooltip
Tooltips.set_tip(widget, _(("Can't find the animation plugin.")))
/usr/bin/simple-ccsm:415: DeprecationWarning: Use the new widget gtk.Tooltip
[Code]....

The regular compizconfig-settings-manager works fine and I actually prefer it. So my question is; can I bind the "Preferences" button to open ccsm instead of simple-ccsm? If not, how can I fix the simple-ccsm package?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Mute Button Stopped Working?

Jul 15, 2010

In the last week, I noticed that my compaq 6710b physical controls for volume control/mute stopped working correctly. The volume control is not working anymore and the mute "unmutes" itself after precisely 1 minute.

I was wondering:

1/ did an update modify anything

2/ is there a way for me to know if the problem is physical? like a physical signal sniffer of some sort, or a log that indicates that I pressed mute

3/ Am I alone? and if not, does anyone know of a workaround?

Am running 10.4 Linux vaucher-laptop 2.6.32-23-generic #37-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jun 11 08:03:28 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Ubuntu :: Left Mouse Button Stops Working In 10.10?

Sep 15, 2010

I'm having a problem with gnome. When I press a multimedia key on my keyboard (or obstensibly other hotkeys although I haven't figured out exactly what). My left-mouse button stops responding. The right mouse button works fine and the mouse tracks fine. I can go into the mouse control panel and switch it to a left handed mouse and the left mouse button works, but not the right. I ran 'xinput test "HP Mouse"', and I can see the left mouse clicks coming through. So X11 at least thinks it's coming through. I've got nothing interesting that I can find in /var/log. This is really generic USB hardware. HP Mouse and Microsoft Digital Media Keyboard.

Ubuntu :: Left Mouse Button Has Stopped Working?

Oct 1, 2010

After upgrading from 10.04 to 10.10 I have a big problem that makes ubuntu unusable. It seems like my left mouse button has stopped working. Left mouse clicks are not registered (although right clicks are). I've tested with 3 mouses (all USB, 1 wireless, 2 wired) and all show the same problem. All three mouses work fine under Windows 7 on the same computer and under ubuntu on different computers.

Right now I can't do anything, does anyone have a good suggestion how I might go and start troubleshooting this?

Ubuntu :: Minimize/Restore Button Not Working Properly?

Jun 29, 2010

I have just recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 on a desktop machine (Dell Dimension 4600) and am in the process of becoming familiar with it. So far, I like it. Especially the boot-up speed. I like the users manual also. I notice one thing, though, that doesn't seem to be working right the three buttons on the right side of the titlebar that close, minimize and maximize the window. The minimize button is supposed to remove the window from the desktop and indicate the minimized window on the bottom panel so that you can click it and restore it. It doesn't work that way in my install. In fact, I cannot minimize and restore the window at all. The three buttons, from left to right, close, reduce/enlarge, and close. I don't think that is normal, is it? And how can I get it to work correctly?

Hardware :: Media Button Not Working?

Jan 19, 2010

I think this goes in this subforum, but I'm not sure. I am using Mandriva 2010 KDE 4.3 I have a Toshiba Satellite with 7 "special" buttons: power, home page, media, play/pause, stop, back, next. This is the best pic I could find of them (on top of the keyboard there). I was able to set it so that all of those keys preform their correct functions, except the media key. For some reason whenever I try to set it as a shortcut the key input simply isn't registered. I know that this key used to work under Windows, I guess there is something wrong with the mapping. What can I do to find out where the problem is and fix it?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Mic Mute Button Present On Laptop Is Not Working?

May 29, 2010

I have a lenovo thinkpad and my internal microphone works only when i connect another mic through the jack. Even the mic mute button present on my laptop is not working.(There is no such problem on windows se7en) Earlier, even an external mic never used to work. After some searching i added "options snd-hda-intel model = thinkpad" to my alsa-base.conf file. And then the internal mic started working only when an external mic was connected.

when i type "cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#* | grep Codec" i get:
Codec: Realtek ALC269
Codec: Intel G45 DEVCTG

I looked into the HD-Audio-Models.txt but couldn't locate the exact model for ALC269 so i searched online and decided to put model = thinkpad as i'd mentioned earlier. But The alsa-mixer shows card to be HDA Intel and chp as intel g45 devctg. Moreover, even this partial working of mic(s) is when i choose the input source in the alsamixer to be front mic and not int mic.

Slackware :: Oracle VM Console Button Not Working (VNC)?

May 30, 2011

I need to be able to install new virtual machines with Oracle VM. There's console button in the web interface which opens VNC connection to specified Virtual guest but it haven't been able to get it to work yet. [URL] I converted the rpm to tgz package and installed it. It installs the packages to /opt. I also tried info in the following link: [URL] Firefox's about:config lists the ovm-console plugin active and when I press the console button in the web page it opens up a new window. The window doesn't prompt for missing plugin but it won't open the VNC display either. As an alternative I installed tigervnc from Aliens repo but it has problems with the mouse cursor. My laptop mouse cursor goes at different pace than the vnc client cursor so it makes its use very hard.

Edit, forgot to mention that I checked and tightvnc-java package is installed on the Oracle VM manager and the console button works on Windows and on Fedora when I tried it. So the issue seems to be limited to my Slackware64 setup.

It is most likely caused of the missing " Firmware " / Driver for my WLAN Card ( Internal ) . Currently I use Ubuntu 10.10 but I tested 10.04 too before 10.10 and it found my Card but not the Button .

So I want to know if there is any solution for my problem .

Debian Hardware :: How To Get Power Button Working On X1Carbon

Jun 3, 2015

I have a new Thinkpad X1 Carbon (3rd) and i am very pleased with this machine so far.

Linux support is very good and i only have a few issues remaining.

I am running Debian Jessie and tried this with 2 kernels:

linux-3.16.7-ckt11-1
linux-4.0.4 (vanilla)

Main Problem at the time is really cannot get the power button to work.

thinkpad_acpi module is loaded.

I am not very familiar what possibilities are available to catch input devices. Some search in the internet brought me to the following commands. I tried evtest with no result

Code: Select allroot@x1carbon:~# evtest /dev/input/event3
Input driver version is 1.0.1
Input device ID: bus 0x19 vendor 0x0 product 0x1 version 0x0
Input device name: "Power Button"
Supported events:
  Event type 0 (EV_SYN)
  Event type 1 (EV_KEY)
    Event code 116 (KEY_POWER)
Properties:
Testing ... (interrupt to exit)

I tried acpi_listen also with no result

What else could i try? All other keys like lid event and all fn keys work flawlessly.

Just learned that the event needs about 1 second of pressing time to trigger

OpenSUSE :: Mouse Middle Button Paste Is Not Working?

Mar 4, 2010

Suddenly the mouse middle button paste feature does not work in Bluefish and OpenOffice. It is driving me crazy. I have become so used to this feature I am constantly forgetting to ctl c/v to cut and paste.

It works everywhere else. ( For example, I can use it in this text box that I am typing this message in. ) and when I select text in either Bluefish or OpenOffice it shows up in Klipper. Strangely, if I select that text in Klipper I can paste it into either application with the middle button.

This just started a few days ago. I have no idea what changed on my system. It is a KDE4 desktop, if that is relevant.
