I have installed Dansguardian on my little brothers laptop (using Tinyproxy and Firehol too) and I have it mostly configured the way I like it. The only problem now is that I can't seem to block secure (https://www...) websites, and he knows a few proxies that use secure domains. I was wondering if anyone has been able to make Dansguardian block these websites or is it just not doable?

I've been running dansguardan for some time now and have managed to make rules to allow and disallow sites, but I've now hit a brick wall on the latest request from staff here. which config file i need to edit.I've tried adding *essex*.* to the exceptionsitelist, but these sites are still blocked. View 1 Replies View RelatedI have installed Fedora 10 and centos 5.3 on 30 system in my home office. everything works fine except accessing https websites. the problem persists in both centos and fedora even after changing firefox versions. what's worse is the problem is not resolved after changing other browsers. so the problem is not browser-centric. i think it has something to do deeper in fedora and centos. also note that i have disabled firewall and selinux but in vain. the problem is still there across all the systems. it's really a show-stopper for me.

We have an exisiting website written in Python and was developed by other entities and now being maintained by us. We want to run the website using secure connection (HTTPS), I tried reading this article and successfully executed every instructions but still failed to run the website using HTTPS.

The way we run the website is using port 8080, e.g. [URL] I am sure I am missing something here, first, I am still looking on where does the port 8080 comes from since I've checked the httpd.config and it wasn't there.

The issue is not there on Windows using Chrome and Firefox so I believe this is a problem with how linux manages secure connections. I can access all the google secure websites too. There a few other websites apart from facebook.com that I know which I am unable to access.

For example, if blocking [url], [url] would also be blocked. This implies that simply blocking a single IP using iptables would not work well.
The names to block will be somewhat dynamic, so a list specification would be ideal.
In my case, the LAN has a mix of linux and ms machines, and they all use a linux gateway currently running dnsmasq.
I find suggestions from using /etc/hosts (might work with yp, but not ideal) on the gateway machine, through to using squid on the gateway machine.
i was tasked to setup a proxy server to block access to some websites. i'm using centOS 5 and Squid 7:2.6 STABLE21-6.e15...i appended the following and tested the configuration with the supposed server i am using and the it does seem to work but now i'm wondering how i can test it with a client computer..i have 2 LAN cards and i just connected the other to one PC (can a direct connection work or does it need to pass thru a switch or hub)...i just can't figure out how it should be... how do i configure the 2nd LAN card to use this computer as its proxy server?

I'm an Oracle DBA and started working for my current employer about 4 months ago. This past weekend an alert re: FS space brought my attention to /var/spool/clientmqueue (full of mail re: cron jobs) and the fact that sendmail is not running on our Linux servers.I'm told that the IT security team deemed sendmail too vulnerable so we don't run it.Aside from FS filling up and missing notification of issues with crontab entries, I'm concerned that we may be missing notification of potential issues. In other Unix/Linux environments I've seen emails from the print daemon when it experienced problems with specific jobs.
Are there other Linux facilities aside from cron and lpd that use email to advise the users of possible issues? Are there ways to secure sendmail or secure alternatives to sendmail? My primary need/desire is to make sure that emails regarding issues on the server get to the appropriate users. Secondary goal would be to have the ability to use mailx to send mail out. There is No need/desire to receive mail from outside.

I have installed squid and Dansguardian on Ubuntu Server 10.04. I have also installed webmin. I see that there is a Dansguardian module for Webmin, and I have downloaded it to the server, but I am not sure how to install it. The file was downloaded from [URL]I don't know what to do with the .wbm file.

Is it possible to run Polipo together with Privoxy? Yes. In order to get the privacy enhancements of Privoxy and much (but not all) of the performance of Polipo, you should put Polipo upstream of Privoxy.
In other words, you should:
point your web browser at Privoxy (localhost:8118);
point Privoxy at Polipo (put forward / localhost:8123 in the Privoxy config file);
use no parent proxy in Polipo.
Now i tried to use Dansguardian togather with Privoxy and Dansguardian with the same configuration but fail.

The system:
Ubuntu 10.10 - all updates as of today
Dansguardian - 2.10.1.1-2ubuntu0.1 (latest update)
Squid3 - latest update (not squid 2.7)
Webmin - 1.530 (all updates)
Webmin dansguardian module - 0.7.1
Ok - I have all of the above installed. When I go to the DG module page in Webmin, I get the following:
Warning - the version of DansGuardian you have is not supported by this Webmin module version
Webmin Module Version 0.7.1 supports DG version 2.10 (& 2.9)
Currently installed DG version
This obviously makes no sense, since I am running DG version 2.10.1...
PS. I have squid installed, but not configured (still tinkering) - could this be the problem? That squid needs to be running for DG to work?
