The only problem now is that I can't seem to block secure (https://www...) websites, and he knows a few proxies that use secure domains. I was wondering if anyone has been able to make Dansguardian block these websites or is it just not doable?

For example, if blocking [url], [url] would also be blocked. This implies that simply blocking a single IP using iptables would not work well.
The names to block will be somewhat dynamic, so a list specification would be ideal.
In my case, the LAN has a mix of linux and ms machines, and they all use a linux gateway currently running dnsmasq.
I find suggestions from using /etc/hosts (might work with yp, but not ideal) on the gateway machine, through to using squid on the gateway machine.
i was tasked to setup a proxy server to block access to some websites. i'm using centOS 5 and Squid 7:2.6 STABLE21-6.e15...i appended the following and tested the configuration with the supposed server i am using and the it does seem to work but now i'm wondering how i can test it with a client computer..i have 2 LAN cards and i just connected the other to one PC (can a direct connection work or does it need to pass thru a switch or hub)...i just can't figure out how it should be... how do i configure the 2nd LAN card to use this computer as its proxy server?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am using my netbook with Squeeze when I travel. I recently started getting a msg "Network discovery service has been disabled" or something to that effect. And many websites have been blocked as well. I discovered that I could remove avahi-daemon to fix it and I have done so. Unfortunately, the websites are still blocked even though I no longer get the msg. I could not even post this msg here with Linux and had to boot with Windows to do it. It is a shame. Can someone please tell me how to unblock those websites.

View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I go out of town I normally take my Acer Netbook to travel light. I ran into a problem over the weekend which I have seen before and couldn't find the cause. I used the wifi at the house I was staying at and could connect to the router via Wicd and ping outside IP addresses, however, I could not connect to any websites with Iceweasel or Midori. I receive the generic error that the browser is unable to connect. Now that I am back at my house I cannot repeat the problem, but have found a couple threads about disabling ipv6 protocol. The symptoms sound like a browser setting, but I couldn't find any settings that looked unusual.

I'm using a Dell SC440 server for this effort. I started with Debian 6.0.7 32 bit i386 version in mid April and everything seemed to go smoothly until the first boot finished, I wanted to look at the hard drive just to see what storage space was left to work with. The drive was not recognized and I could not mount it. The error message was "One or More Block Devices are Holding /dev/dm-0".
I could not find anything on the debian forums that seemed to relate to the error message so Google led me to the same problem on Fedora, Ubuntu and one other distro. I flattened the machine and restarted from scratch. This time using Debian 6.0.7 AMD64 version. The install went well but I had the same problem with the same results. So I started over several more times before the new Debian 7.0 AMD64 version was released. Under Debian 7.0 I not only get the same error message but I also get a message that my video card is not supported under this new version of gnome and sudo does not work.
I am having problems while testing out squid proxy server. I just can't get it block anything. So, I'm running Debian lenny on my Virtualbox and Squid on it. I'm having windows 7 on virtualbox too and they can ping each other and the webserver on debian (apache2) is working fine. The problem is i can't get squid to block webpages. I am having no luck configuring ProFTPd on a Debian Lenny production server we use to host our MySQL databases and a few websites. I had originally set it up so I could login and manage our internal sites, but I have the need to allow a few clients in to access their sites that we host. I am trying to root the users in their site directory, which would be "/sites/www.whatever.com/".
It just hit me while typing this. Is it possible to create a user without a shell to prevent login via SSH and set the home folder to /sites/whatever instead of /home/username? That would allow me to continue operating with my current configuration and root them in their site while preventing SSH logins.
I am using Squeeze and all appears OK at first... I have a DHCP lease, PING to router works, apache servering fine in and outside the network, Epiphany seems to connects to default debian.org only, BUT I cannot connect to any other websites and apt will not connect to any servers. I installed once, tried to fix problem, gave up and reinstalled and still have the same problem.
I unistalled Network Manager thinking that was the problem, but still the same issue. Is there a default firewall blocking certain connections or am I missing something I'm supposed to know about? I installed some non-free firmware in the beginning of install and all worked... and I connected fine when downloading packages during install.

Does anyone know where I could find a block diagram of the Squeeze sound system with all the possible permutations thereof. I am primarily interested in OSS4 on a KDE4 desk top. I want something that shows all possible inputs, all possible outputs and all of the component programs in between. At this point I am really confused by all of the possible packages and how they interact with each other.
My present OSS4 installation works with oss4test, VLC, etc. but doesn't work with iceweasel. I have installed all of the recommended packages to no avail. I have an Intel DP55KG mother board with the Intel HD sound system on board.

I am working with linux-source-2.6.30 from squeeze.
The only changes I made in the config file were the processor type, and I disabled CONFIG_SYSFS_DEPRECATED_V2 to avoid some warnings from udev.
When I tried to build the kernel package, this is what I get:

Searching for this error turned up a plethora of results, none of which seemed relevant.
I see that it tells me to file a bug report, but I'm not sure if that is meant for the Debian kernel team or upstream.
Just installed Debian 8 last night and trying to run one a few of my scripts that use easygui (a front-end for python-tk basically) and I keep getting alloc: invalid block any time a file or folder selection dialog is presented. I'm able to select a file/folder with no issues, but once the dialog closes I get a variation of what appears to be a memory error followed by alloc: invalid block.
Here's one of my scripts that does it. This one pops up a file selection dialog pretty early on to ask for a file to check, and as soon as I select any file the dialog closes and that error appears in the terminal. It happens whether I run it with Python 2 or Python 3. You will need to install python3-easygui for this script to run properly if you want to check for yourself what happens. This is a first time encountering this error for me.
