I'm trying to display my todo.txt file in my Conky, but it won't align correctly. Only the first line of the list is where I want it, the rest is in the default location.Quote:

I just installed conky and followed a set of instructions to get the NightDrive theme setup. Everything looks alright except that some of the text and the clock are off. Been experimenting with different values but I am not really knowledgeable in coding as of yet. Anyone give me an idea of where in the conkyrc I can adjust the x, y for the clock?

i have to display on my desktop "this is the text" using conky.
So I'm running Fluxbox as my window manager in Xubuntu. I use ivman to automatically mount any usb devices.Now I was wondering if it's possible to have conky display all mounted drives and some information about them.I saw you can do {$ifmounted /media/blah} but this would assume I have a set number of devices preconfigured in fstab. It doesn't account for some random guy's flash drive, or a buddy's smartphone.
I know mount | grep sd outputs a list of mounted drives. So then could I somehow format that output and pass it to conky? Or do you guys have any more clever ideas on how I could accomplish this?

to display the IP on my LAN and guessed I would just need to substitute 'eth0' with something else to get the external IP?? I have tried the mac address of my primary router to no avail, this just displays '0.0.0.0' My current config looks like:-

I run my conky as one bar at the top of the screen (Ratpoison). It is frustrating when % values jump between 0->10% for example and then the entire bar shifts. How can I make it display 000% 010% 100%?

[etc.]
And then tomorrow, *automatically*, it would look like this:

[etc.]
I know I can get it to display *today's* date like this:

But how do I get it to display tomorrow's date?
I have an K10 AMD CPU and unfortunately it has a borked temp sensor. I have figured out that if I subtract 8 from value stored in /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/temperature that the result is very close to being spot on. The problem is I have no idea to do this and conky has no built in way to do this.
The data stored in /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/temperature looks like this:

I am having problems with Thunderbird in Ubuntu Lucid. I am not sure since when. It could have been since I upgraded to Lucid from Karmic. When I open Thunderbird, a message pops up that is supposed to ask me for the password. However, it is all blank inside and doesn't display the text. I found that after I click on ALT+TAB a few times, the message displays correctly. This is very strange. Is anyone else having (or had) the same problem? Does anyone have an idea for a fix?I tried uninstalling and then reinstalling but it didn't work out (I didn't "purge" though).
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with getting the picture to display properly on my HDTV. Using the regular driver (whichever that is) the picture displays flawlessly, but when I'm using the NVIDIA driver it displays really weird. URL...As you can see the top and the right of the picture is missing, and there is a large black bar to the left of it.Since it only does this with the NVIDIA driver I guess the driver is at fault here. The graphics card is a 8400GS and I'm running Xubuntu 10.10. The HDTV has a native resolution of 1366x768, and I've connected to it using HDMI.
I have tried messing around with overscan compensation in nvidia-settings, but it didn't help much.What can I do to fix this?
Just installed x64 Wubi inside Windows 7 and Ubuntu won't boot. Instead, I get a black screen with this message:

I want conky to display holidays on their respective days. I would be using a Catholic calendar. Do I make an .xml file of the dates and feasts? How can that be accomplished?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently installed KDE and began using that instead of Unity (less buggy, IMHO) and it was running smoothly until I began configuring my GTK applications for transition in that. I installed the Oxygen-GTK them from gnome-look.org and set that as my default theme for GTK applications under the KDE appearance preferences.
When I log in, however, GTK applications just use the stock Xorg theme until I run "gnome-appearance-properties" in my terminal.I believe that a fix involving .gtkrc would suffice, but I honestly cannot configure it no matter how hard I try.
I just upgraded my computer from Ubuntu 9.10 to 10.04 (beta2) restarted and the splash was screwed i thought meh i can live with it then went into my account switched to tty1(ctrl+alt+F1) and it was the same. got annoyed now asking had anyone else encountered/know how to fix this problem. pictures attached sorry for bad quality took on phone, but that is how it really looks.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a laptop that doesn't display correctly since installing F10 x86-64. Instead of using the i810 driver, I see the experimental intel driver. I am running on a Dell D630 laptop with the default intel integrated graphics.
Just to note: Running gnome. I tried KDE and I can actually get this to work and display in 1600x1200. I don't want, "well use kde then" to be the solution. Also, in gnome, if I go to the screen resolution option from the menu, the mirron screens is clicked. Even when I detect monitors and unselect the mirror screens and pick the correct resolution, when I click OK, the screen flickers, and I go back to the same screen with the original default values? Wierd.
I got the bright idea to install system-config-display (something like that), which installed fine. I then changed my default resolution to 800x640 just to try it (really want 1600x1200). Well, I decided to reboot. Not the laptop doesn't start, it stops right after loading anaconda, and just won't go any further.
So two questions:
1. What do I need to change to get the laptop to actually boot?
2. How to get the external monitor to display in 1600x1200.
That's my main issue. I cannot add anything in the todo list. I have included a screenshot of the error message. Now just by chance could someone also point me in the direction of how to make it so the calendar will update and sync both ways with google calendar? Follow the link for the screenshot

Tried installing latest NVIDIA driver (NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-180.29-pkg2) from NVIDIA website for this video card, and the display was not appearing correctly. There was a lot of garbage at the top of the monitor. Half of the desktop screen was missing.
I'm running Kubuntu and have tested flash video sites with firefox, chromium and rekonq. I have installed all the available packages from Software Management but flash videos still don't display correctly. All get is a small rectangle of video on the bottom left hand side of the video box (which is otherwise grey).

It has multiple control files and want to know which file works best with ubuntu server. View 2 Replies View Relatedinstalling a Linux distro on an old mac to make a simple desktop home computer details below.The Scenario: I am trying to breath a couple more years of life into a computer illiterate friend's Mac G4 [POS] computer, it is a paper weight but all he needs is a basic desktop and an web machine and he can't be made to buy a new one unless all other options are exhausted.
The computer: Is a Mac G4 power-PC architecture, 450 MHz, 18 GB HDD, 1024 Mb ram ugly little thing that was gotten for free it currently has mac OS 10.2 [unsupported] and newer OS-X (he is more familiarized with Mac) don't run on power-PC. Currently web pages don't display correctly, flash and other plug-ins and web scripts don't operate and it is very clunky with software bloat.
My solution? Is to install Linux so he can have a trim clean operating system. Ubuntu 10.04 [community ppc variant] runs off a live CD but is dead slow on account of the low processor power and I was unable to get gnash to run flash video a necessity as Adobe has abandoned power-PC, I suspect the gnash error is between chair and keyboard, advice is welcome. I would like to install a distro more suited to this system currently I am looking at mintPPC but can't quite follow the installation instructions what is meant by Debian squeeze the download link gives me a mini.iso is this the same thing? Also clarification on the terminal commands would be of help. Advice on a different distro is also welcome preferably one with an all in one installing process rather than the mint, Debian, Ubuntu multi-part thingy that mintPPC is; it just needs to be power PC compatible and able to run on a few hundred MHz maybe there is an easy way to put LXDE or Xcfe on a more popular Disto? As for me: I am a new Linux convert, discovering the glory this past July and am still learning my way around I am computer literate and somewhat savvy but I am not a tech head and I HATE working on them I can and do it but I don't like it and I am often hampered by ignorance of the latest new/trends and an acute allergy to Macs and Apple products in general.
I recently dist-upgraded from Debian 5 to 6 (squeeze). Since then, the xclock I run from my window manager's start script isn't displaying correctly (it displays only a "0"). The thing is, if I run the same command in my start script in my terminal, it works just fine, as it has always done...
I use this rather "old" X applications because I like my programs simple/not buggy/fast, and it's resulting a rather annoying problem (being that apparently nobody else has it...).
All other programs in my start script (gnome-terminal, emacs, xmodmap, etc) are working with no problems whatsoever.
