Ubuntu :: Clipboard Sharing In Xephyr - Make A Live CD Which Makes Use Of Xephyr?

Mar 15, 2010

I am trying to make a Live CD which makes use of Xephyr. Xephyr seems to do the job I need, however it seems that I can't copy things from the rest of my windows to paste into the Xephyr window, and copy things out of the Xephyr window to paste into the rest of the windows.I have the live CD here [URL] , and if people using the live cd can not copy things into the Xephyr window, then I imagine it will be very frustrating to use.is there any way to share the clipboard between two Xservers? Any thing I am missing?

Ubuntu :: How To Write The Xephyr Script

Apr 18, 2011

I've only ever written one or two simple bash scripts before but how hard could it be, right? I'd like to make a script that will launch an Xephyr window of a specific size with a window manager, an xterm, and Google Chrome running in it.I have:

Code:

#!/bin/bash
Xephyr :100 -screen 790x590 &
DISPLAY=:100 xterm&

[code]....

But it doesn't work. All I get is the Xephyr window, nothing else will launch. It works fine if I just run the DISPLAY... commands from a terminal window but I can't automate it with the script. I get the sense that this is a newbie mistake in understanding the ways scripts are supposed to work but I haven't the faintest idea how to get it to do what I want.

OpenSUSE :: Single-card Multiseat: Xephyr Freezes?

Aug 28, 2011

I have a multiseat installation consisting of a single graphics card controlling two screens, with one Xephyr instance on each. Each one has its corresponding mouse and keyboard assigned via appropriate command line switches--evdev is used as the input device driver.

Since a recent "zypper update" (about two weeks ago), this configuration has been having problems: as long as the keyboard and mouse are not being used, it runs fine (e.g., over the weekend when it just sits on the KDM login screen), but when it is being actively used, the Xephyr process will eventually end up in a hard lock-up requiring a kill -9. A lock-up of one Xephyr screen does not seem to affect the other, although both will end up frozen eventually--sometimes this takes only a couple of minutes after the user starts his activity, and sometimes it may work for half an hour or so before it gives up the ghost.

There are no relevant log entries anywhere I could find, and neither is anything reported on Xephyr's stderr/stdout. I have tried downgrading to an older version of Xephyr, as well as compiling xorg-x11-server-extra locally from source, with no success. Only thing I can think of is downgrading to the previous kernel. Unlike my Debian machines though, OpenSUSE does not seem to keep the last few previous kernels for you to boot into in case of problems, and I can't see how to downgrade kernel via Yast2.

Software :: Run What Windows Users Typically Call A Clipboard As A Network Service On My Small LAN / Clipboard / Notepad?

Mar 18, 2011

I'd like to have a Linux machine run what Windows users typically call a clipboard as a network service on my small LAN (about 10 machines). More specifically I am looking to have Linux run the clipboard service centrally in the LAN with both Windows and *nix machines able to connect to it as opposed to the peer-to-peer sync model that I am seeing in almost all of the applications I've discovered thus far.

General :: Log Or Live Data That Discloses The System Calls An Application Makes?

Apr 5, 2011

I want a log or live data that discloses the system calls an application makes. I have used strace but can't find a guide for it that is decent. I'm interested in knowing the calls made after user intervention like opening a menu and so on. If you run (strace application_name) it is static. What good is this? When does strace make this file? When is this log produced?

Ubuntu :: Internet Connection Sharing: Tutorial Doesn't Make Sense?

Feb 5, 2010

At home I'm currently running Hardy on a desktop machine and Jaunty (Eeebuntu) on an EeePC. I often connect the desktop to the internet via a cellphone as modem. I also often connect the EeePC to the desktop via crossover cable and SSH into the desktop so I cam watch video files from the desktop on the EeePC from the sofa or bed.

I'd like to be able to use the desktop's internet connection from the EeePC. This means I have to set up the desktop so the EeePC can share its connection - this involves setting up the desktop as a gateway I believe?

Looking around for info on how to do this, I found this guide [URL]...in-ubuntu.html - but unfortunately it seems this guide has not been written correctly. It repeats itself in one section (below: repeated section in bold):

Ubuntu Security :: Make Live CD Of System

May 3, 2011

I got BT's repo's set and ready to install, tho I haven't installed them all just yet cause I not wanna crash the system, so I guess what I am asking has anyone sucecfully done this and what are the specific risks here. I have uploaded crunch and that works fine if I do it manually from the command line. the kernal seems to be update-able as well to BT's Kernal, I am not sure if I should do this or not in fear it might crash the Ubuntu system somehow. I guess what I might do next is install everything but the Kernal and install the executable links to the drop down menu by hand per the menu structure.

What I would ideally want is to have all the functionality of BT in Ubuntu which is pretty close to where I am at. Also, when I am done I want to make a live CD of this system so that I not have to do this ever again as it is very time consuming. What program would be used for that? Would any of my user data transfere? I don't want my user data to be transferred to the live CD just the raw system data etc. Anyone done this and would like to chat via skype? that would be best, but I'll take any help I can get at this point. I am using Ubuntu 9.10 for all this.

General :: Make A Live Cd With Ubuntu Customization Kit?

I'm trying to make a live CD with UCK, and I've got it all working perfectly except for the proprietary Nvidia drivers. When I try to sudo apt-get install nvidia-glx-185 it won't install properly giving me an error saying it won't work because it's chrooted (which it is), so I guess my question is how do I install the proprietary drivers into a chrooted environment so I can put it on a live CD?

I would just test it until I figured it out, but customizing the CD it about an hour long process after all is said and done so I'd rather avoid it.

The requirements included in the website are: Your distro must use kernel 2.6.24 or higher (in order to use sqlzma patch)

* all the following things must be compiled directly into kernel:
(these options are usually compiled so you shouldn't have problems)
- ext2 (CONFIG_EXT2_FS=y)
- tmpfs (CONFIG_TMPFS=y)

my system administrator is mean, and i cannot make live cd's, the disk drives don't burn. i have a 10.04 lts ubuntu ISO, and i have tried to make it live usb mode, using macintosh 10.5.8, intel , but you need a password for any and all Sudo commands, so no terminal, and disk utility won't burn to a usb drive. seeing as how the disk drives don't or won't burn, it cannot be helped. i can't download applications for mac, need an administrator password to do so, but i can download windows applications, except my windows machine has no internet, not to mention the most sophisticated thing it can handell is windows 98 second edition. (btw, the windows machine won't burn either, and it doesn't read dvd's, or burned cd-roms, it is a 1995 micron nbku375)

Ubuntu :: Using Disc Creator To Make Debian Live USB?

Is this because I use Ubuntu for a Debian OS or is there some other problem? I've noticed that the disc creator in Ubuntu only really likes Ubuntu related OSs. Software :: Make Boot USB With 2 / More Live Cds?

Jul 9, 2010

I've a 8GB USB drive, and I usually carry some Live CD in it, like Ubuntu or other distros, and sometimes I carry things like System Rescue. The problem is, I want to have all those things available to boot, but I don't know how to make it. Therefore I can only carry one thing, and with 8GB of space it's such a waste because I could carry tons of tools and Live Distros.

The way I see it, it must no be that difficult, maybe changing some file and adding a few lines, but I don't have any experience with this whatsoever . if someone can tell me how to do it?
