Ubuntu :: Cannot Locate The Evolution Tasks

Apr 14, 2011

Recently installed 10.10 netbook edition, and evolution is behaving strangely. Albeit I've never used it before, but having read the documentation and googled it a bit I'm still lost. I cannot create or manage task lists. It's as if their functionality has been completely cut out of ev calendar. When I try to go to File->New->Task List, the Task list option does not appear in the menu (not greyed out, nothing). Can't find the button that's supposed to be there either. I've also checked synaptic for evolution task packages, but no avail.

Ubuntu :: Tasks Not Showing In Evolution?

Jun 9, 2011

I'm using Evolution in Gnome 3 and I'm having this rather annoying issue---whenever I make a new Task, it does NOT show up in the Tasks bar. Even if I try searching for it, the task doesn't show up (even making a new Task List doesn't show up), which makes me think it was never saved properly in the first place. I also tried seeing if there was any sort of error while running Evolution by opening it via the terminal, but I don't get anything. Does anyone else have this issue? Is this a known bug with Evolution

Ubuntu :: Evolution Tasks Missing

Jun 20, 2011

Yesterday, I found that the majority of my tasks on Evolution (2.28.3) had just disappeared. I last did a backup of my system 2 weeks ago but in that time important data has been added to my tasks lists on Evolution. I've read around and found that the problem may be fixed by rebuilding evolution-data-server (see here). However, if this means re-compiling evolution-data-server from the package manager, well, I don't seem to keen on doing that unless I can get confirmation of how to implement it, i.e. how do I rebuild evolution-data-server?

OpenSUSE :: Version Of Evolution - Running The Evolution Mail System Under Fedora - 15 / KDE

Jul 26, 2011

I've been running the Evolution mail system under Fedora-15/KDE for about a month now, and it has some very serious problems. I just noticed that it is available for SUSE, and figured that since KDE is the principal desktop supported by KDE the SUSE version may be fixed. Before I go through the very tedious process of getting the SUSE version to compile on Fedora, I'd like to know whether anyone has seen these problems with the SUSE version of Evolution:It ignores font control from the KDE Settings->Applications Appearance window, both KDE font control and GTK+ font control, also its own internal font control window.

It has trouble sending messages to an SMTP server, sometimes taking a l-o-n-g time, sometimes timing out. This can be temporarily cured by restarting it It crashes when a filter attempts to refile an outgoing message. It often asks if I want to recover messages that have never been lost. It often locks up receiving mail from a remote POP3 server. I can live with these, except for items 1 and 2, since I have workarounds. If you are fairly sure that you have not seen these problems with the SUSE version of Evolution

Fedora :: Error While Fetching Email. Evolution Version: Evolution 2.28.0

Apr 5, 2010

I had configured the evolution to send/recive email. After it had been configured, it could receive emails. Suddendly it can't fetch email anymore. In the inbox of evolution, there were about 200 emails. There are maybe 5K emails in the server, I guessed. I'm not sure whether it's the problem that there's one email in the server too big, so the evolution can not fetch it. The error of evolution is: error while fetching email. OpenSUSE :: Restoring Evolution 2.32.1.2 Settings Into Evolution 2.30

Feb 20, 2011

I have been using Fedora 14, which has Evolution 2.32.1 but have recently also installed openSUSE 11.3, which has Evolution 2.30.1.2. I would like to make openSUSE my primary distribution, and so I would like to restore my Evolution settings from Fedora, but Evolution complains that the backup file is invalid. I have tried copying the folders in the backup to their appropriate locations in openSUSE with no luck. I have also tried manually copying with instructions for older versions of openSUSE, but with no luck.

An obvious guess at what might be the problem seems to be that I am trying to restore settings from a newer version to an older version? An obvious thing to try would be to upgrade to Evolution 2.32, but Evolution has a long list of dependencies so before jumping into that fun I thought I would ask if anyone else has had similar problems and found a straight-forward solution. I still have access to my emails in Fedora so this is not hugely pressing, and if upgrading to 11.4 will do the trick then I can just wait for that.

Ubuntu :: Installed A Version With No Desktop, Best Way To Do These Tasks?

Mar 6, 2010

Ok so i have a IOn based PC that i use for only xbmc. I previously had a full ubuntu 9.11 install.

I had to reformat the drive but i could not get audio working. I gave the ION Optimized live CD a go and it worked with HDMI audio running perfectly. The thing is when i close xbmc i don't have a desktop, it just goes to command line.

I need to install lirc, copy some keymap files into my xbmc folder and then setup wireless. What would be the best way? Can it all be done through command line? Can i install a desktop environment?

Ubuntu :: Execute Tasks List Before Shutdown

Aug 10, 2010

When I shut down my computer I want to show some pending tasks that I have to do before leaving the office... I did a local application to manage those tasks, so basically I just want to run a command, and shut down after I kill the app executed. I have already tried with these options:

* /etc/gdm/PostSession/Default --> this works only when I select LogOut option instead Shutdown.

* /etc/rc0.d/K01mycustomscript --> execute script after X is killed

* $HOME/.bash_logout --> This looks like does nothing.

* ./app-to-run && sudo shutdown -h now --> Don't like it for 2 reasons, prompts for sudo password, and can't use my laptop shutdown button.

How could I modify Shutdown dialog ? should I recompile Gnome ? Options? I am using Ubuntu 10.04

Software :: Set Top Box With Scheduling Of Tasks On 2.6.12

Mar 10, 2010

We are seeing some strange behavior on a Set top Box with the scheduling of tasks. We use 2.6.12 kernel. The issue is when we create a Task, say task1 with a priority of 46.But,this task is not Scheduled to run by the scheduler right away. It gets chance to run only after sometime. What we see here is that I create many other tasks with lower priority than task1,but they are immediately scheduled. Ideally, the task1 should have got scheduled before certain other low priority tasks as it has higher priority. Any patch is available wrt this?

is there another deamon that also could be using yum or the database for programs? i haven't had too much time to trouble shoot the past few months, so i can't give you better descriptions i'm afraid.

Ubuntu :: Using SSH From Mobile Phone To Manage Administrative Tasks?

May 23, 2010

I find myself using SSH from my mobile phone to manage administrative tasks when I'm away--completing updates and the like, things that can be done during normal usage but sap my RAM and CPU to the point of frustration, given the hardware I've got to work with. It's convenient, I can do what I wish (without the benefit of an X session) while I'm at work. The issue I run into is the fact that my auth.log is littered with items like this:

Code:
May 16 12:53:17 BETA sshd[18941]: pam_unix(sshd:auth): authentication failure; logname= uid=0 euid=0 tty=ssh ruser= rhost=200.111.184.180
May 16 12:53:19 BETA sshd[18941]: Failed password for invalid user lala from 200.111.184.180 port 41787 ssh2
May 16 12:53:25 BETA sshd[18943]: Invalid user master from 200.111.184.180

Which tells me that some inconspicuous person and/or botnet keeps trying to get into my system. This is generally annoying; at this point, my system isn't used for anything particularly critical; however, the fact that only failures or questionable successes--such as those from my mobile, the IP and Host of which can vary a fair bit (and the host resolution almost always fails, based on the way the IP/Host advertisement is presented to an external host is established--it's essentially manufactured)--doesn't tell me who/what has figured it out. I've done what I can to tamp down SSH access to the system, root is blocked via SSH (a moot item, since root isn't allowed locally), I've limited only my own username as allowed to connect via SSH...all it would take, though, is an alphanumeric dictionary that hits the right combination to get a password prompt, and to be able to brute-force it from there.

Overall, I know there's few, if any ways, to prevent someone attempting to get into my system via SSH; what additional steps can I take to minimize the possibility that I might end up compromised?

Ubuntu :: Status Of Cron Scheduled Tasks While Computer Off?

Reason I ask is because i have a backup scheduled for every single hour. And another one I want to schedule for every 15mins. If I turn my comp in standby overnite, I certainly don't want to turn it on in the morning to find cron doing like 30 back up jobs!

Ubuntu :: Cron Or Scheduled Tasks Not Working Properly

May 23, 2011

I am running a series of operations on executable matlab scripts which are connecting python and fortran scripts. I schedule the executables in cron. The problem:

- My original matlab scripts work perfectly.
- My executables work perfectly if I run them from the terminal. - Using the gui scheduled tasks and running the scripts once from a button, everything also works fine.
- But when I leave the scheduled tasks run on their own, I get an error! The error can be that the script hangs in general (I have some text logs exported every step to track the progress), or I get an error which never appears when I run the script with any of the other mentioned ways.
- I tried both cron command prompt or the GUI scheduled tasks
- I am running on Ubuntu 64 bit
