Ubuntu :: COWON S9 (a MP3 Player) Won't Mount After Lucid Upgrades?
Jan 29, 2011
I have a COWON S9 (an MP3 player that normally mounts like any memory stick) and I noticed that when I connect it, it won't auto mount and does not seem to be recognized by Lucid after yesterday's kernel updates.
This player has always auto-mounted without any problems until yesterday's (2011 Jan 27) kernel updates. I rebooted and made sure I'm on the latest kernel.
Anyone else experiencing things not auto mounting? I can't get it to manually mount either. It doesn't seem to be recognized at all now.

I have got a Cowon iAudio 9 music player and want to display the album art images of the albums on it. The player does support this feature but only when there is a *.jpg file inside of the album folder or the image is embedded into the music file itself (did not tried that).
At the moment I'm using banshee as music management software and I like it. The album art is downloaded automatically for each album and when the player is connected it is beeing recognized and I can drag & drop albums or single songs.
The only problem is that the album art is not transfered along with the albums. The player does support MTP and MSC usb connections and is mounted as removeable usb drive to the system (Ubuntu 10.10). I would be glad if there's a solution to do that with banshee but other software solutions are welcome too.

I recently installed Kubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx. It is working well, but Movie Player does not work, and Dragon Player plays videos/movies but with no audio. VLC works fine. how to either remove Movie Player and Dragon Player or make them work. I tried apt-get remove mplayer but that doesn't work. If not that, I wonder if the default media player can be changed to VLC, e.g., when you click any video it will start to play using VLC?

When I try to install vmware-player it complains that it can't find the kernel headers for my running kernel (2.6.31-20-generic) to compile its modules. I did have this working on 9.10. No amount of googling revealed the name of the package I need to get this working in Lucid.

I would like to set xine as my default player for DVD playback and cannot figure out how. I have read other posts that state to right click on file>properties>open with but do not seem to have the open with option when right clicking a dvd that is in my dvd drive. I would also like to change the open with option in the right click menu. The current option is to open with movie player, and movie player cannot seem to find additional plug ins to open file with.

I recently bought a cowon S9 mp3 player because of its capabilities of playing ogg music files. I decided I wanted to remove some music files to replace with others bur after supposedly deleting them I found that there was 10gb still in use. After opening the folder for the cowon s9 and viewing the hidden files I found a "Trash 500" folder with the songs I thought I had deleted. The problem now is I can't delete this folder, even if I open the folder as root, it doesn't allow me to delete the unwanted files.

I don't know if this is the right place to post this.
When I transfer my .ogg music files to my cowon s9, it doesn't recognise the tags so all I see is "unknown" for album, song and artist. I have tried retagging using easytag but it still shows up as unknown but when I converted an album to mp3, the tags automatically showed up.
I know it would be easier just to convert all my songs to mp3 but the reason I chose the cowon was its ability to play .ogg files, my preferred choice of music file.
The odd thing is I had a D2 until I lost it and that showed the tags ok.

i am not real sure where to place this thread, so i will try here first. i have a Cowon S9 mp3 player that i like to plug into my computer and play music through Rhythmbox under Ubuntu. I have been trying other distros (OpenSuse 11.3 being my current distro). However when i plug in my mp3 player to my OpenSuse box, it doesn't show up in the side bar of Rhythmbox like in Ubuntu. I have shutdown my firewall, i compared the installed plugins under the OpenSuse Rhythmbox to those under Rhythmbox under Ubuntu and they are the same. i've tried Googleing my problem and have not found a solution. Either i am not entering the correct search terms, or NOBODY else is having the same problem i am. I have OpenSuse installed on both my laptop and my desktop and I have the same problem with both.

I've recently upgrade ubuntu 9.10 to 10.04 LTS using my system update and after it had completed installing the packages. I shut down the computer. Then after I get home, I open my computer I have found out that the system is unable to mount my filesystem. I went to manual recovery, typing in fsck -y /dev/sda1 then after it runs, it said the system is clean. So then I type control d to reboot but then it said that the system I not ready or present and I continue to wait. It seemed that there's a major issue mounting partition in my computer, I'm not sure if NTFS has any involvement.

I'm running ubuntu Lucid Lynx on an asus K50IJ series laptop. I'd had jaunty before and made a fresh install of lucid. My CD drive had been fine in jaunty, but doesn't mount any more in lucid. I have found numerous threads with promising-looking titles, but they either do not match my problem or their solutions don't work for me.
This is my situation: The disc will turn for a bit after inserting, then stop. During that, the little light on the drive will flash a few times, then wink out. So I guess the power supply's fine.

I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 (lucid lynx).
It was OK after some of kernel updates (I guess):
It doesn't auto mount CD/DVD when I insert them.
When I insert CD/DVD system writes this in "syslog":
Code:
And when I try to mount it manually it writes:
Code:
when I reboot system it works correctly again!
I made ISO images of some of DVDs in a windows box and transfered them in my ubuntu and tried to mount them and there were no problem with ISO images! the problem is with the physical CD/DVD !

When I plug in a USB in Lucid, it gets mounted at /media/usb0 , etc. I'd like it to mount as /media/<volumelabel>. I know HAL is gone and things have changed, but I'd like to still have the USB mounted at /media/<volumelabel> as it used to, as I got scripts that use those mount points.

I upgraded my Karmic OS to Lucid the day after it became available and have been having some troubles - I am having trouble starting the OS. Brief history: I have real troubles with the ATI graphics and spent a while trying (finally successfully) to remove fglrx and associated dependencies. I then rebooted ready to install new drivers. I now get the following error on startup:
CIFS VFS Error connecting to socket - aborting connection
CIFS VFS cifs_mount failed w/return code (-101)
For the last couple of weeks or so, I have noticed CFS errors on shutdown which has meant that I have needed to physically press the off button to turn the machine off, but since I could still operate I left that problem on the back burner "for when I have more time". Don't know if the two problems are related. Anyway, I am currently in the situation where I cannot start Ubuntu at all unless I use the install CD and try the LIVE distro.
My fstab file looks like this:
aufs / aufs rw 0 0
tmpfs /tmp tmpfs nosuid,nodev 0 0
/dev/sda6 swap swap defaults 0 0
(My PC Has a 1 TB drive and a 500 gig drive. The 1 TB drive has dual boot Vista (came preinstalled and I have a couple of games for it - else, yuk) and Linux. The 500 gig drive is a data drive). I'd rather not reinstall from scratch though may have to? I don't know of any way to repair-install the OS - maybe that would be possible too?

I am trying to have an encrypted drive auto-mounted once i log into Lucid.
I created the encrypted drive with the disk utility in administration menu
I also have the password remembered "forever" so when i am logged in i just click the icon for the drive on left panel and it mounts.
I am able to find the uuid and know what device is called sdd but i don`t know how to put it into fstab if that is possible?

I have Mandriva 08 and I can't get a MP3 player or a Flash Drive to mount. If I manually mount the Flash drive the "Computer File" won't create a file so I can access it. I get no desktop icons and I have checked the box in "config-whatever", The Flash Drive will appear in HardDrake but the MP3 player will not. The MP3 player will appear in the "Computer File" but will not manually mount.

When logged in as my normal userid to OpenSuse 11.2, I cannot get Banshee to recognize my Creative Zen MP3 player. The player does appear as a device on the desktop and I can access files on the player through that icon, but cannot get Banshee to recognize it so it can be managed in Banshee. If however, I log on as root, Banshee recognizes the device without a problem.
The log file in ~/.config/banshee-1 shows the following:
libusb couldn't open USB device /dev/bus/usb/001/004: Permission denied.
libusb requires write access to USB device nodes.

I recently started to use Ubuntu in VWware player on my windows-XP. I installed ubuntu 10.04 few days ago, It was working fine.
Yesterday, I compile a new kernel, kernel 2.6.33 in my vmware ubuntu 10.04. Everything went well till I did reboot. before reboot I use the command "update-grub" to make it compatible to the new kernel. BUT... after rebooting, I have a problem in loading a grub correctly. it gives me following message " [2.149136 ]kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0)" and I can not proceed further. I have my all data on it. I also tried to boot it from live CD but unfortunately, I can't mount the hard disk on it in order to get those data from my old Ubuntu set up.

I have beating my brains out trying to get Lucid Lynx connected to an SME Server 7.4 to automatically mount windows shares. The winbind stuff seems to work okay after I installed a restart script in /etc/network/if-up.d (kudos to OsGnuru & bobpaul for that) There is a short wait on network up before winbind can validate but that is not a show stopper. I have looked at (what I think) is the correct log for pam_mount and it seems to be running through to the end process okay. It looks like it is either not reading the pam_mount.conf.xml file or I have not configured it correctly as it just reports "No Volumes to Mount". I have appended the log file, pam_mount auth, password, session & common conf files as well as the pam_mount.conf.xml file for review.

It has 2 GB of built-in flash memory and slot for MicroSD. I have OpenSuSE 11.3 with GNOME and Windows XP SP3 installed on my Samsung NC10 netbook. In Windows, when I connect player via USB, it recognize player as disk and I can drag files to listen music. I used to that when I insert USB storage device or mp3 player in my netbook running OpenSuSE,automatically mounts device to /media/xxx. But when I connect player to computer, nothing happens. There are no new entries in /dev/ after insertion.

I have three system on Ubuntu 9.10. Two of them are at kernel level 2.6.31.20 and one seems to be stuck at 2.6.31.17. All three have about the same software sources. The only difference I can see is that the .17 system is on Grub2 and the other are Grub1 systems. I have tried updating via Synaptic but nothing can get the one system to get a kernal upgrade.
The .17 system seems to go through updates of packages but no kernel updates.

I am using Meerkat w/ the 2.6.35.24 kernel. I am extremely satisfied w/ the direction of Ubuntu and Canonical and am amazed at the focus and dedication of all involved, including the contributors and moderators here.
But I have a question regarding continually upgrading the distribution kernels while awaiting the next iteration (11.04). Is it advisable to upgrade every kernel when my system seems to run well without them? For instance, each kernel upgrade necessitates that I reinstall the NVIDIA driver, among a couple other minor problems. This is not that big a deal, but I would like to avoid it--it's just an irritation when I reboot to a black screen. But another irritation is continually ignoring the update notices.
