Problem:
Until recently putting in some random word in the URL field defaulted to a Google search. Currently Bing replaces Google. I tested this by opening a new tab and typing in a random word in the URL bar (in this case, fish). A Bing search resulted (click here to see what I got).

But it automatically changes to "chrome://browser-region/locale/region.properties" in some hours or the next day and I cannot search using the address bar. I have to change it back again to make it work. This is really annoying.
I recently followed instructions from here to enable fetching Bing wallpapers from the webIt does woanually, however, when I try it with cron, I get the following:Quote:

I am quite sure I overlooked something, but there is no more option to disable that error sound which blasts your ears when you hit backspace just some times to often when typing into console or autocomplete via tab has no or ambigous options to complete. How can I turn this of? Its not the PC speaker, its just the normal audio doing some weirdo predefined fedora error sound (which drives me crazy).

View 10 Replies View RelatedI have a Nortek Diva keyboard and my machine runs Mandriva. In Mandriva 2009, pressing the "magnifying glass" button on my keyboard took me straight to the Firefox Search bar. Fantastic! Now that I've upgraded to Mandriva 2010, however, pressing the same button just launches the search engine as a new tab (okay, I can live with that), but the cursor is not active in the Search field.
I've been to the Nortek site but there are no drivers for the keyboard, Linux or otherwise. And no Nortek keyboard configurations appear in the Mandriva Linux Control Centre. I know how to use xev to capture keystrokes. What I'd like to know is, how can I map the keyboard button to position a cursor in the Firefox Search bar? I use Search A LOT, so this is really slowing me down. I bet it's something like "firefox %search".
Is it possible to locate the Firefox file that retains "Search" history (not particularly "Browser" history)?I have lost a hardcopy list of authors and titles of books/ebooks that I search the web for. However, most of the time when I would enter a name or title a drop down list would have that entry I wanted, and I could just click on it. That drop down list is what I am calling "Search" history.
View 8 Replies View RelatedUnfortunately far for all unicode characters can be displayed in Fedora by default, (much less than in M$ Wnd). There is a tool that aim to find and install missing fonts when an non-displayable character appears, but it starts mainly when I accidentally open non-text file in terminal and never when a web-page I open in Mozilla Firefox (or Konqueror) contains such kind of characters. So, I see a rectangle with hexadecimal number of character in it (or simply empty rectangle in case of Konqueror) and don't know if there is a easy way to see it by installing missing font automatically (or manually at last) for range of this character or a way to install complete font collection to display all unicode characters from all ranges.

i did manage to install apt-get and was able to run synaptics ... but now whenever i try to run synaptics it flashes the interface and crashes. i tried apt-get search wget and it says invalid operation search. i tried apt cache wget and get a crash box in the upper right corner... i tried apt-get gtk+extra-2.1.2-4.fc14 and it says invalid operation gtk...
All of which is frustrating my attempts to get the GTK interface to J working. Their script uses WGET which i also cannot get.
I'm trying to find a good desktop search tool. Beagle is dead, Recoll and Strigi are KDE, and Tracker is not many features (can't even search Thunderbird 3). Do I miss something? Is desktop search on Linux dead? Should I use Google Desktop Search instead

The only extension that isn't working is FEBE which is incompatible w/ firefox5beta (profile, extension and preference backup). View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded (via Ubuntuzilla) to firefox 3.5.7 and now, every single time I close Firefox, the program seems to crash without quitting completely.
First, I receive an error saying that the program will not close and asks me if I want to Force Quite or Wait for it to close on its own. This has been happening ever since I upgraded to Karmic and if I just wait it usually quits fully after a couple seconds.
Now what happens is this: the window still closes, but if I try to reopen Firefox then I get this error stating that Firefox is already open and therefore cannot be opened again. The only way to get back into Firefox is to restart the entire computer. (Incidentally, this is the same problem that occurs whenever I try to Force Quit Firefox)
This now happens every single time I "close" Firefox.
Does anyone know the source of this error? Or a workaround?
How do I force Firefox to recognize a certain default firefox profile I have?
For whatever reason I can't get FF to show all of the add-ons I have. Yes, they are installed and they appear when as icons when I first boot up but after I close FF and start it again there are no icons (like Adblock).
Im using firefox version 3.6.12 and it functions fine. However when i use the latest version of this addon https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fir...11377/#reviews the screen goes grey and firefox crashes. Restarting firefox only results in more crashes. I had a older version of this addon-1.5 i believe that worked fine.

If I try to open it on safe mode nothing comes up, it I try it a secont time it tells me that Firefox is already running and if I try to open it normally it shows it on the bottom as if it was opening and then it dissapears.

Ended up with "Namoroka" which seems to be Firefox 3.6, and it's a prerelease version.
Flash works under my admin id but not under normal user id. Reinstalling Flash didn't help. Want to revert to Firefox 2 that came with Ubuntu 8.04 so Flash will work again.
Can't uninstall "Namoroka" - uninstalled Firefox-3 but it's still hanging in there!

I cannot seem to find this file, and i've already tried to delete my .mozilla file and i've installed swiftfox and it's using it. So where in the world did the Ubuntu UI people put this thing at?
