I've been using Back in Time on Maverick (originally on Karmic) for some time but in the last couple of weeks I haven't been able to make new backups. Here's my output:
For like windows you can resore your os to a state of peace kind of. If you messed up your vital files you could go back in time and restore you computer to a selected time. I was wondering if you could do that for ubuntu
it was possible to back up time machine back ups from a mac in ubuntu.
I use a mac at work and use time machine to back up to an external hard drive which i take home each day. I wish to back up the time machine back ups off the external hard drive each day to my computer at home just to be safe is this possible?
I have managed to open the hard drive and have enabled view hidden files so i can see all the files but i am unable to copy them due to permission errors
I have avast anti virus installed and it has been fine, but yesterday i downloaded updates for it and since then whenever i try to run the program i get an error and it refuses to run.
I just updated my system to a new kernel with the update manager and now my WICD no longer obtains an IP address. Everytime I try it says "Connection Failed: Unable to get IP address".It was working fine before and even when I reboot into an older kernel it still doesn't work.I'm using a Belking Wireless G adapter.I would have tried downloading another network manager but since I can't even access the internet I'm stuck with changing current settings and nothing seems to work.
I made a USBbootdisk and installed 10.04 the day the final release came out. I installed it, used this post install guide http://blog.thesilentnumber.me/2010/...de-what-to.htm, and it has been working like a charm since then. When I went to log on to it today, the log in screen comes up as normal, I enter my password, ubuntu thinks about it for a minute, and then sends me right back to the log in screen.
I have an Asus EeePC 1005, dual booting Windows 7 Starter/Ubuntu 10.04
I just want to see if this is fixable before I wipe the partition and reload ubuntu.
Have recently updated 10.04 with latest updates which included a new kernel and the printer no longer works. In-fact I can't even define the printer and I don't have a printer installed, the install script can't locate the printer on the USB. I have a cannon MP640.
I can print OK through windowsXP on virtualbox, printer is found OK.
Everything was fine until latest update.
Also my USB TV card doesn't work anymore, it also was OK before the update.
I installed Lucid several days ago, and have just noticed that SCIM no longer works. I need it for Japanese input, but cannot turn on Anthy. The manual is either nonexistent or extremely terse with a lot of presupposed knowledge.I've installed German, Russian and Spanish language support, along with CJK. I can't even get the SCIM tool to pop up now---except ONCE!Simply reinstalling using Synaptic overlays the existing problem(s), and does not resolve any issues.SCIM may be conflicting with the desktop Switcher applet? Actually, SCIM seems to be conflicting with other Gnome desktop shortcuts, as well
Ubuntu, been using windows for years and now use Mac. I have Ubuntu running on a netbook at work and all of a sudden my wireless connection not only doesn't work, it doesn't seem to exist! Wired still works fine, but the wireless option has vanished. How do I reset or restore or whatever it takes to get my wireless working again?
I installed virtualbox a couple of days ago and had used Windows 7 (guest) multiple times without anproblems. However, upon attempting to share folders, it will no longer boot and I get this error:
p, li { white-space: pre-wrap; } "Failed to open a session for the virtual machine Windows 7. The virtual machine 'Windows 7' has terminated unexpectedly during startup with exit code 1." Details:
I recently upgraded from 9.04 to 9.10 and the sound on my machine no longer works. I was previously using the OSS for sound. I'd like the sound solution that requires the minimal effort and I don't necessarily need to run OSS again. Ubuntu is installed on a Dell Optiplex 960.
I upgraded my system from 8.04 to 10.04.Now I keep getting errors saying that my adobe nonfree installation is bad. The worst part is that when I try to uninstall the Adobe package to start from scratch, it says that the problem is so bad that it can't be uninstalled, but must be re-installed.Of course when I try to re-install it, I get errors saying it's corrupt.I'm caught in a chicken and egg situation here.
Also, sound no longer works on my system.I think this is most likely a symptom of the first problem, but I'll just put it out there.I've read the other threads explaining how to fix this, but nothing works.
I have a 3rd gen iPod shuffle which I had loaded music onto in Banshee a few months ago. It worked fine until yesterday when I decided I wanted to delete a few tracks from it. When I mounted it and opened Banshee it said I had to rebuild the database or something to that effect. I did that and could then see all the tracks on it. I went ahead and deleted the few tracks I wanted to remove, and ejected it. When I tried to use it, it says "please use itunes to sync music." A little confused, I went back and deleted all the tracks on it (using Banshee) and reloaded some tracks. It still won't work.
I haven't changed anything in Banshee (as far as I know) and I have never plugged the shuffle into itunes. I've always used Banshee to manage it and never had a problem. The only major change I can think of that might have made a difference is upgrading from Ubuntu 9.10 to 10.04.

I thought my Super key was not working to dim my notebook screen, thinking that it was a driver problem. However, I also noticed that my Super key no longer works. I read somewhere that in order to fix the Super key, you would have to use Keyboard Preferences and change 'Alt/Win Behavior' so that 'Super is mapped to Win-Keys'. There is no option like this for me to select. Moreover, this will not fix my function key issue and my eyes are beginning to strain from my screen being at max brightness all the time.
I've had Ubuntu 9.10 x64 installed on my Asus G60JX-RBBX05 Laptop for a few weeks now, and for the most part its been working pretty well. Then a couple of days ago, I suddenly noticed I could no longer use the numeric keypad. This seemed completely out of the blue, but its possible I received an automatic Update through the Update Manager that hosed it or something. I'm really not sure.Has anyone had a similar experience
I had a working lirc using my hauppage card. After upgrade to Lucid, it no longer works. I don't see errors, but it appears to me is is not detecting the Hauppage card:
I am running Ubuntu 10.04LTS on two PC's, one PC is running Ubuntu 64-bit, the other is running Ubuntu 32-bit. They are set up on a network to share a HP Colour Laserjet 2600N printer. However, I cannot configure either PC to use the printer. I am using the "HP LIP" toolbox in "System -> Preferences" but every time it detects that it needs a binary driver from HP, it goes to the HP website, where I am prompted to accept a license - then it starts to download the file only to fail. The logic seems to go into a loop at this point and the missing installation file that the system needs simply cannot be downloaded. I've tried looking around the HP website but I cannot find a solution there.
I installed 64bit flash last week when I installed Ubuntu 10.04 64bit on my new laptop, and for the past week it has worked without issues.
However a couple of day ago it simply stopped showing flash videos on sites such as ..... etc. I think there might have been a ream of updates around the time this happened but my memory is a little vague.
I have since tried installing the each of the 3 flash codecs in turn that Firefox recommends but these will not install, failing with an exit status of 2. After I tried this I followed the 64bit flash instructions on the Wiki once more to get back to the point when it previously worked but alas this has been of no help.
I have also tried loading flash videos in Chromium and these suffer from the same issue. Anyone have any ideas what could have caused flash to suddenly stop working?
I used the "Upgrade" option the last couple of nights to go from 8.04 LTS and was going to go to latest version. Well got the upgrade done last night on 9.10 and now Broadcom gigabit wired connect will not connect to internet. Can ping router just fine. Just cannot get outside of it. Shows as configuredin ifconfig. But the name of it under the network manager is odd. Its ifupdown (eth0) (default) and maps to ent1.
My wired internet was working fine and dandy under Maverick until today. For no apparent reason, it stopped. The router works fine. All other computers are able to connect. I've tried using different cables with no luck. I have a Biostar A785G3 motherboard with an integrated Realtek RTL8111DL ethernet controller.
My problem sounds very similar to this guy's: [url]. But his strange solution didn't seem to work in my case.
The video and audio work in other applications, but for some reason mencoder isn't using them. I don't like Cheese because it seems like I can't get equally high framerates at good resolution, and besides I want to be able to run this from the command line.
So my wireless card no longer works in my windows machine for some odd reason, probably due to the temporary video card I have until my actual one comes back from XFX. It works perfectly in the Ubuntu box though, so I bought a crossover cable hoping to have it automatically create a wired network that I can bridge to my router. Obviously it's not that simple.
Anyway, I have the computers connected through crossover cable and they sort of know there's supposed to be some form of networking going on (Windows has limited connectivity on "unkown network" while Ubuntu just won't connect to Auto eth0), but that's as far as I get. basically all I need is to:
1. Get the computers to connect to and communicate with each other. 2. Bridge the wired connection with the wireless one within Ubuntu so that the Windows computer can access the Internet as well as the shared files on the other computers in the wireless network.
I'm running 10.04 Lucid with Gnome desktop, if it makes a difference.
i loaded the YUM suggested by fedora and adobe. the install went well and worked during that time during the next and all restarts after the flash player no longer works infact all websites requiring flash say it si not even installed. I tryed to reinstall it and it said it is already installed and to cancel.
For some reason, just shortly ago, the terminals, konsole, etc. will not accept the lowercase letter 'e' as input for some reason, not even when pasting, e.g.
a paste of file:///usr/share/applications/kde4/konsole.desktop
For everything else I have tried at this point on the computer, the lowercase letter 'e' is just fine (this message being an example);Has some configuration file for terminals (konsole, xterm, Yakuake) or whatever got messed up and I need to correct it?
Before I upgraded to Karmic, I had Japanese text input set up on my system, but since the upgrade it no longer works. I can still read Japanese text, and when I press Ctrl+SPACE I still get the ANTHY box in the bottom right-hand corner, but Japanese is no longer on the list of supported languages. how to get Japanese back?
when i installed it the windows 7 Partition no longer works. I can see the windows 7 partition but when i click on it, it just reloads the grub boot loader. Im in college and need the windows 7 partition.
