Or maybe convert into an .ISO and then burn? Or can it be done from within the machine from an .ISO?

I have downloaded 10.5 via a torrent via Ubuntu on my external hardrive and it is too large, my G5 doesn't support dual layer to burn install DVD. I thought I found a Ubuntu link that would help me install this OSX.dmg from my external firewire drive but i can't find it again.Anyone recognize this that could provide a link?

View 7 Replies View RelatedRunning Ubuntu 10.04 and I'm trying to re-install Mac OSX back onto my MBP. I'm running competely off of GRUB and I have no other partitions for any other OSs running. Popped in my MAC OS CD and came up with this error.

Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 1: helper failed with:
mount: block device /dev/sr0 is write-prtected, mounting read-only

How should I go about with removing Ubuntu, and re-installing MAC OSX?
So I was messing around trying to uninstall Nibbles and reinstall since I have an issue starting that game and something happened and removed the submenu under Games called "Logic", which had another whole list of games.
Is it possible to reinstall the games package or reinstall the update?I'm thinking more of the lines of a system restore or something so back 2 days from today.

I have reinstalled windows 7 and now i can't boot ubuntu i've tried easybcd to add ubuntu to win boot loader which failed and tried to follow the instructions to reinstall grub through a live cd which i am in at the moment. i go to a terminal and type sudo grub and it brings up the grub prompt. i have mounted all discs and entered the command find /boot/grub/stage1 and it keeps spitting this back at me Error 15: File not found
my hd is a 80gb with partions like this

Neither Ubuntu's Unity or KDE respond to the function keys on a regular Apple USB keyboard. I can plug in a non-Apple keyboard and they work just fine. What needs to be changed or configure so that F1 and company on the Apple keyboard work as on other keyboards?

When I log out I can log back in by typing in my password. However, when I restart the computer it seems that bluetooth is not loaded yet and I cannot enter my password. So I have to log in using my wired keyboard, and then disconnect & re-connect to my wireless keyboard using blueman before I am able to use the wireless keyboard.
Is there any way that I can already auto-load bluetooth and connect to my keyboard before I log in?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI had a thread about installing on a Mac and decided to go the VirtualBox route and everything is running splendidly EXCEPT for the fnmode setting in /sys/module/hid_apple.
The problem is that the directory hid_apple does not exist for me to modify the settings for the apple keyboard. I'm assuming that when installing in VB, Ubu assumed it was a PC. Anyone know of a way to get the keyboard config directories in there so I don't have to hit Fn to do Alt-F2? Also, I tried to create the directory (sudo mkdir) and it returned "Cannot create directory...no such file or directory", but not in so many words.
I've had a Apple Powerbook G4 for a while now, but being mostly a Windows user I've never used it. I remember when it ran it's native OSX (Which I can't for the life remember) Probably Tiger? So I've decided to dust the laptop and give it another go. I've progressed a little further with my Linux experience, having installed and tested a few distros and even switching over to Ubuntu 9.10 for about 4 months. I know there are different versions of the G4 and I'm not entirely sure what my version is, It's the 1.6Ghz version with The Nvidia card (Err I think) and extra Wireless card installed. I am not very capable with Mac - After checking Apples website I believe it's the 15inch.

View 7 Replies View RelatedInstalled 10.10 onto a brand new HD. Using the computer to introduct myself to both Ubuntu and file server concepts. I also installed Samba and was communicating wirelessly with 2 Win 7 machines. THEN I upgraded to 11.04, could not get wirless internal card (B43) to work. Everthing is a mess my 11.04 computer is a doorstop. I tried to reinstall 10.10 from the orignal distribution disk I had created. I would like to take off 11.04 and go back to 10.10 with Samba and a functioning wireless card. I have backed up files, I would just like 11.04 off and 10.10 back. I do not wish to deal with the wireless B43 driver and 11.04 for now.

I get this error message: No Boot Device Available, Press Enter to Retry.For some reason my OS loads no problem if I am just restarting my system. This just started happening out of the blue.I've already reinstalled a couple of times off the live CD and also deleted and reinstalled GRUB2 with no luck. Now I'm thinking about trying to delete and reinstall my MBR, but I don't know the safest/best way to do this. Can I do this with gparted? Is this something that can only be done in terminal? I've seen commands like install - mbr ... should I use this route?

I do have another Windows computer that is networked to this Ubuntu machine. It must remain Windows so I do have a Windows machine for a pinch. I installed ubuntu netbook remix on a very old laptop. in the end of installation, the cd drive just broke and not usable again.the ubuntu is installed but extremely slow, I want to try to install something else like wattos or puppy.the problem is - no cd drive, no boot from usb support in bios. only floppy.I tried to go to grub and boot from the usb, but it doesn't find the usb drive..(is it possible to make a bootable floppy that will allow me to boot from usb drive?)
