Ubuntu Security :: Macchanger On Boot

Jan 5, 2011

I want to change MAC address on boot on a stock Dell laptop running Ubuntu 10.10.

I have adapted the /etc/init/macchanger script found towards the end of [url]:

Code:

The MAC address does not change nor is there anything matching lines in /var/log/messages (i.e. no output from `sudo grep 'wlan0 pre' /var/log/*`).

If I run sudo /usr/bin/macchanger -A wlan0 the MAC address is changed (provided wireless networking is disabled).

How to I automate the same thing on boot?

Ubuntu Networking :: Macchanger Not Working Well In 10.10?

Jan 31, 2011

I'm testing some settings on my network, so I'm using "macchanger" so I can change my MAC Address (Wlan0), it has always been working fine, but now, the mac changes, but after some time (say 20 mins) it suddenly changes again to the original one. This is happening in Ubuntu 10.10 because in 10.04 never happened before.

I'm using:

sudo ifconfig wlan0 down
then: macchanger -m xxxx (some mac) wlan0
and finally: sudo ifconfig wlan0 up

I get the message that everything was ok and if I type ifconfig I can see the MAC I put on wlan0, but, like I say, after some short time and without me doing something, the MAC goes back to the original one.

The issue is happening in UBUNTU 10.10

Debian Configuration :: Macchanger On Boot Not Working

Nov 12, 2015

I've installed macchanger and choosen the "run on boot" option. But it doesn't work.

Dump of /var/log/macchanger.log:

Code: Select alldisabled in /etc/default/macchanger
disabled in /etc/default/macchanger
disabled in /etc/default/macchanger
disabled in /etc/default/macchanger
disabled in /etc/default/macchanger

[Code] .....

If I change to ENABLE_ON_POST_UP_DOWN=true then I get this log-output after reboot:

Code: Select allIFACE = --all
/usr/bin/macchanger: unrecognized option '--all'
GNU MAC Changer
Usage: macchanger [options] device

[Code] ....

Guess its some bug about the interface, but how do I change it?

Debian :: Change Mac Address For Wlan0 Without Using Macchanger Software

Sep 6, 2015

I have running Raspbian on my Raspberry Pi

I have two usb wifi dongles that both work and connect to my router when testing.

- Edimax EW-7811UN
- Adafruit Miniature WiFi (802.11b/g/n)

However when I try to change the Mac Address's of either of these usb devices when only one is plugged in and in use at one time I cannot do it as the effects seem to not take place.

I have tried using cmd

Code: Select all    ifconfig wlan0 down
    ifconfig wlan0 hw ether 00:00:11:11:00:00
    ifconfig wlan0 up

and also editing /etc/network/interfaces file wlan0 entry

Code: Select all    iface wlan0 inet static
            hwaddress ether 01:01:01:01:01:01
            address 192.168.1.100
            netmask 255.255.255.0

After doing this and running ifconfig I can see that either of the two USB'S device has the same MAC.

I have also tried rebooting the device but the mac address is the same.

I have heard there is a package called macchanger but I would like to do this without it, how could I go about doing this?

Ubuntu Networking :: No ACKs With Aireplay-ng - Aircrack-ng

Mar 12, 2010

I'm having an issue with aircrack-ng, when I use an aireplay-ng I don't get any ACKs from my network.

I'm using a RNX-EASYN1 with a rt3070 chipset on ubuntu 9.10

That's my command:

HTML Code:

And that's what comes up after:

HTML Code:

This one is for my network, but I tried it for some other networks just to check if there's something wrong with my network. But I didn't get any ACKs anyway.

I'm not very familiar with aircrack-ng, because I just started to play with it, please if there's somebody who's good with using an aircrack-ng.

Ubuntu Networking :: Aircrack-ng Does Not Find Any APs While Scanning

I've just bought a GEETEK Hercules USB Wlan adapter, which has the Ralink rt3072 chipset. The Connection manager can find wireless APs, but it won't connect to any of those. Also, aircrack-ng does not find any APs while scanning. After some tinkering and a lot of restarting, I can now connect t wireless networks, although slowly. However, I still can't use it with aircrack-ng.

Fedora Installation :: Error Getting Repository Data For Installed, Repository Not Found

Feb 14, 2010

Today I installed Fedora12 from the DVD, so this is my first contact with all of you. The last years I ran very well with gentoo, but the time for system maintenance got to big the last few times I updated the system, so I decided to change and here am I. The Problem: My system is newly installed from the DVD and I was trying to run the first update, but got the following errormassage by KPackageKit:

Code:
Error Type:
Error Value: Error getting repository data for installed, repository not found
File : /usr/share/PackageKit/helpers/yum/yumBackend.py, line 3125, in
main()
File : /usr/share/PackageKit/helpers/yum/yumBackend.py, line 3122, in main
backend.dispatcher(sys.argv[1:])
File : /usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/packagekit/backend.py, line 710, in dispatcher
self.dispatch_command(args[0], args[1:])

[Code]...

It occured after informing me about the amount of packages that need to be updated and a message about some dependencies that have to be newly installed. At the moment I'm a bit lost about what to do. Also I realy don't know which system-information would be useful - let me know and I will answer.

Ubuntu Security :: Faster Aircrack Packet Collecting?

Jul 8, 2010

I've just started learning how to use kismet and aircrack. I'm sniffing my own network to see how vulnerable it is. I'm using aireplay to inject packets, but the number of packets per second in airodump is only about 30 to 50. Is there something that can speed this up a little more? Shouldn't it be able to go faster than this? It's going to take forever to collect at least 300,000 IVs for a 64 WEP key let alone the amount needed for 128 WEP.

wireless card intel iwl3945. Everything works great except for the extremely slow speed of gathering IVs. Also, how can I monitor my network? If someone was using aircrack on me and sending packets, how could I observe that? What should I Google?
