When the desktop effects are turned on by default, my desktop is rendered upside down, although the task bar stays at the bottom, even though the favorites bar got cropped off by the panel. Here, I'll demonstrate:Desktop is now rendered properly without desktop effects enabled, as a workaround. Removing .kde or renaming .kde to .kdebackup will not fix the problem. Same as for .config.
Code:
grayson@HTPC:~$ lspci

i just updated my slackware to current, and every time i try to log in in my kde session my desktop is upside down.i mean literally everything is upside down, the only way i can have a usable desktop is with the "fail-safe session" of kde option on kdm which is what i'm using right now.does anybody know how can i solve this?i would post a snapshot of the upside down desktop but i can't do anything when i'm using it. fonts, windows, panels, icons everything is upside down..i solved this, just reinstalled the nvidia drivers and everything is goood again
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm currently building a ubuntu distro and would like to run a script on GNOME startup. I've read about doing it through the session manager but I have to do it through chroot so I'll need to set it up as a terminal command. Is there a way to add an item to the Session Manager from terminal or, even better, a directory where I can put the script so it will run on start?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen i logged into a gnome desktop i got this message: "The GNOME session manager was unable to read file:'/home/(desktop name)/ICEauthority'. If this file exists it must be readable by you for GNOME to work properly. try logging in with failsafe session and removing the file." What commands do i use for that? or do i need to do something else?

However, I was playing around with CCSM while in Gnome and I've totally messed it up, I have the Gnome panels and also the Unity launcher, it's a total mess. Is there a way to reset my Gnome desktop to default without affecting my Unity desktop?

I am running Ubuntu 10.04 on a Toshiba Satellite A215 with a USB Toshiba webcam (PA3554U-1CAM). The camera works but the image is upside down in both skype and cheese. I have been looking through some other threads and none of their solutions work. All of my librarys are up to date as far as i know.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIn KDE's Konsole, I can do the following from the terminal:

How can I determine what desktop number the current gnome terminal in a gnome session is connected to?
Recently I have bought an asus k40in laptop. Actually, everything work fine, but my picture in both Cheese and Skype is upside down.
View 1 Replies View Relatedis it would be possible create a Ubuntu dvd that contains the ubuntu server desktop and alternate install opptions, as well as all four main desktop environments (gnome, kde, xfce, lxde) and unity. since much of the data is redundant between each version cd's it would probably all fit on one disk. then all that would be needed is two disks one for 32 bit and another for 64 bit. i really think that this could work.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed Gnome desktop environment recently then ;I' ve lost KDE desktop effects settings. I just can see Compiz Configirator. I cant configure effects independently. There is same settings in gnome and kde. And also I cant change windows appearence.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm running Fedora 15 with Gnome 3. I installed Gnome-Do using 'yum install gnome-do'. I opened it from the Terminal by typing 'gnome-do' but I keep getting an error message that says
Could not load desktop item: libgnome-desktop-2.so.17
Gnome-Do opens but it doesn't display any application I search for and when I try opening the Gnome-Do preferences, it quits.
I installed gnome-desktop-2.32.0-8.fc16.i686.rpm from here: [url] and then installed Gnome-Do. Everything works fine now.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm install a genius web cam eye 312 in fedora 11. The image is upside down in all the programs. In amsn there is no colors, and image upside down. In skype, chesse full colors very nice, but image upside down.
amsn give me this information:

The command Lsusb give me

So I think there is a problem with the driver it self.
I have an .avi file that is a clip from a security camera recording of an incident. I am trying to edit the video with an editor and I have an issue in just playing the video. When playing the video it opens and plays just fine but reversed and upside down. I don't see any settings in any of the players I have tried (VLC, etc.) to correct this. It plays fine from the Windows computer at work. I believe there may be some special codecs related to this particular security camera software. Does anyone know how I might deal with this to correct it?

I have tried installing modified/updated libv4l from [URL] and manually extracting the 32-bit maverick libv4l into /usr/lib32, with no luck. Skype keeps showing the picture upside down. Also the V4l Control Panel seems not to affect the picture in Skype. The camera uses the uvcvideo driver.
I just bought an Asus K52J a couple of days. I of course got down right away to installing Ubuntu 10.10. Everything works fine except for a couple of problems with Skype.
In the past I already had the problem with Skype video not working while Cairo dock was running. I found a solution which consisted in changing the command line and making a custom launcher for Skype alone on my desktop. The command line was
export XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 && skype Now, on this new laptop I have a new problem.....the webcam image is upside down! For this too I found a custom command line for skype to run properly.
export LIBV4LCONTROL_FLAGS=3 && LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib32/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype My problem is combining the two commands in one line so that Skype will run properly and this would thus solve my problem. Seeing that I am running Cairo dock as well i need to solve the incompatibility issue and also the inverted video in Skype.
I tried just copying and pasting them but it only solves the incompatibility with Cairo dock, the image in the meantime, remains upside down!
1)If I installed the Alpha-1 11.10, is it easy to upgrade to newer versions later on until the Final Release?
2) How to make the desktop taskbar appear in ubuntu natty of Unity desktop as previous Gnome? Possible or not?
Whenever I try opening the Gnome Activity Journal from Applications > Accessories > Gnome Activity Journal, it doesn't open, nothing shows up, and not even in the System Monitor. So I took a different route, by opening it from the Terminal, to see if it gave me anything, and when I type in 'gnome-activity-journal' it spits this out at me:

I was experimenting with desktop sharing on my kubuntu and now the 2 windows opens after every login. How to disable it?
Also whats with the keyring manager? can I configure so that it does not ask password every time I login? It feels like I have gone back a decade in desktop computing dealing with these nagging features.
In Lucid Lynx, I am trying to change my GNOME login sound, and I find you can't do it under System -> Preferences -> Sounds anymore. So I followed the recommendation of every search result relating to "gnome login sound" and tried to modify it under System -> Preferences -> Startup Applications. However, there is nothing relating to the GNOME Login Sound or any other login sound in my startup applications list.
How do I add GNOME Login Sound to make it an option in the Startup Applications list? How could it not be there to begin with?
After several upgrades (from 8.xx) I noticed Gnome terminal took about 4 seconds to open an window and another 4 seconds to give me a prompt. This is excruciating when blasting out CLI in dozens of terminals ssh'd into dozens of machines. Tabs were no different.
Fix was: Comment out anything in ~/.bashrc that references xterm. BOOM less than 1s total to prompt.
If it's faster than I can get my mouse hand back to the keyboard to start blasting CLI, it's good enough
After an error occurred i can log in using the recovery console and startx manually.
If i understood correctly recovery mode uses /etc/rcS.d which starts the computer with minimal services and the normal startup is /etc/rc2.d. What can rc3, rc4 and rc5 be used for? Can anyone run different desktops (gnome, xfce, etc) using these runlevels (i am considering that the base system install is the same for all desktops)? Where i can find information about the services that are listed in the rc folders, since some (hibernate, bluetooth, apache2) are not useful to me at the moment.
I am also interested to find out what makes the computer start at it's default runlevel. Is there a way to start rc2 (or rc3, etc) from the recovery mode? When i used to start my computer, it would load into grub, and then it used to get me to the login screen. This is something i would like to avoid (the login screen), and start at the command prompt. My startups are minimal since the computer is always on. I was thinking of 'copying' rcS into rc2 for a normal console start and then start rc3 or rc4 or rc5 to load a desktop.
I am using Squeeze, Gnome, default installation.
