Ubuntu :: No Login Sound Checked At Startup Applications And Found GNOME Login Sound Is Enabled?
Aug 7, 2010I hear no login sound when I login to my ubuntu. I checked at startup applications and found GNOME login sound is enabled. The command used there is

.
Its not only this, but there is no other sounds enabled - for mouse clicks etc

Aug 5, 2010In Lucid Lynx, I am trying to change my GNOME login sound, and I find you can't do it under System -> Preferences -> Sounds anymore. So I followed the recommendation of every search result relating to "gnome login sound" and tried to modify it under System -> Preferences -> Startup Applications. However, there is nothing relating to the GNOME Login Sound or any other login sound in my startup applications list.
How do I add GNOME Login Sound to make it an option in the Startup Applications list? How could it not be there to begin with?

I've read about doing it through the session manager but I have to do it through chroot so I'll need to set it up as a terminal command. Is there a way to add an item to the Session Manager from terminal or, even better, a directory where I can put the script so it will run on start?

Fedora :: No Sound In GNOME With Custom Kernel?
Apr 6, 2011I have a strange and inexplicable problem I've never had before - I can play audio as usual from the terminal on Fedora 14 with my custom 2.6.38 kernel. But, when I log into GNOME, any attempt to use an application that uses audio gives me a "permission denied". The "Sound preferences" shows a dummy output device and no entry in the "hardware" section. Using the distro kernel and a 2.6.33.7-rt kernel from planet ccrma works fine.
Is there anything I'm supposed to build into the kernel that Fedora 14 requires that wasn't a requirement for earlier versions?
Fedora :: Sound Settings Not Saved (FC15 & Gnome Shell)
Jun 23, 2011Not sure if others have noticed this. When I go into sound settings, click the output tab, select the sound device I want to edit and change the bass levels etc, close the window and go back in all the settings are reset to default and no changes are saved.
If I leave the window open and make the changes they are reflected in VLC for example, but if I close the window it again resets to defaults and my Bass is back at Maximum....
Is this a BUG I should report or is there something I can download to get this configured elsewhere or to fix this issue? I seem to recall something similar in Fedora 14 that was fixed, but I cant remember how I did it now

Nov 20, 2009I basically can't get my mic to work in F12. After several releases fighting with pulseaudio, F11 finally worked almost OBO, after going to system->preferences->advanced sound configuration and setting all the input volumes to the maximum. But now there's no advanced sound configuration tool, and I just can't find anything to make it work. Skype isn't working, nor is gnome-sound-recorder. I do record some static, but nothing more. By the way, I'm on an Acer Timeline 3810T.

Example:
I want to run a script: /home/user/directory/script.py
It has dependencies (right term?) in the directory it's in, so if I run "python /home/user/directory/script.py" I get an error.
Is there any thing I could type into the "Command" text box to get this script to run?
Fedora :: Control Of Network Connections/network Startup - 9 Gnome?
Jan 5, 2009I have my box setup as a router/NAT with two different network cards. One for external connection(connected to the Cable Modem) one for internal connection(used for internal DHCP). It works perfectly when I manually activate the two interfaces after booting(both interfaces always show up as inactive after booting), then the DHCP server and firewall. I am confused, however, by which program has control of these interfaces.
First, there is the Network Configuration (System->Administration->Network), which is where I manually start the interfaces after rebooting. Both interfaces are set to "Activate when computer starts" in here.
Second, Network Device control(System->Administration->Network Device Control), which looks to be almost the same thing as the above.
Third, the NetworkManager applet(on the top bar) - both devices show up as unmanaged when I left click on this, but if I set "Controlled by Network Manager" in the "Network configuration" window(number one above), It still does not work. Can I get rid of two of these programs, or is there some way to edit the startup scripts to start my ethernet cards before the dhcp server/firewall(which is shorewall BTW)?

I do not have option to browse to wav files. I also do not see a browse option in Email Settings. Do I have to change an actual file?

Jul 16, 2011After an error occurred i can log in using the recovery console and startx manually.
If i understood correctly recovery mode uses /etc/rcS.d which starts the computer with minimal services and the normal startup is /etc/rc2.d. What can rc3, rc4 and rc5 be used for? Can anyone run different desktops (gnome, xfce, etc) using these runlevels (i am considering that the base system install is the same for all desktops)? Where i can find information about the services that are listed in the rc folders, since some (hibernate, bluetooth, apache2) are not useful to me at the moment.
I am also interested to find out what makes the computer start at it's default runlevel. Is there a way to start rc2 (or rc3, etc) from the recovery mode? When i used to start my computer, it would load into grub, and then it used to get me to the login screen. This is something i would like to avoid (the login screen), and start at the command prompt. My startups are minimal since the computer is always on. I was thinking of 'copying' rcS into rc2 for a normal console start and then start rc3 or rc4 or rc5 to load a desktop.
I am using Squeeze, Gnome, default installation.

The Gnome Login Sound is still on the list of starting programs and the command is right (/usr/bin/canberra-gtk-play id=desktop-login description=GNOME Login). What makes it more weird is, that it works fine on all other users. I started to suffer from this problem since I tried to change the sound (I have done it before with no problems). At the same time with changing the startup sound I installed PulseAudio volume control. Could these things have something doing with my startup sound desappearence?
