Software :: When Save Emails To Disk The Full Headers Are Included ?

Jan 12, 2011

I am running Thunderbird version 3.1.7 on LinuxMint10 (Julia) and when I save emails to disk the full headers are included, which is annoying. Other distros like PCLinuxOS running the same version of TB exclude headers.

Ubuntu Servers :: Logwatch Emails Not Sent If Named Logs Are Included?

Jun 15, 2011

I've suddenly stopped getting emails from logwatch which runs on an Ubuntu server daily using cron. After a good day or so of troubleshooting, I was able to establish that it was the 'Service = named' line in my logwatch.conf file, which was stopping the emails from coming through. If I commented out this line, the logwatch emails come through with no issues, uncomment, and I don't get an email. I don't get any error from logwatch itself when I run it, even with '--debug high', leading me to think that my email configuration is setup ok, at least. Furthermore, I tried running logwatch with '--output file --format html' and logwatch produces a valid html file.

I then thought: "Could I have a entry in my Bind/named log files which could be rejected by my ISP's smtp server?". So, (to the best of my knowledge) I cleared out the log files in /var/log that contained messages from named. I then ran logwatch (including the named service in my logwatch.conf file) and I got an email through, with a pretty much empty named section, which is exactly what I anticipated. Great! - it's fixed.

So, the cron.daily ran early this morning, but still no email in my inbox when I got up. I then tried to run 'logwatch --Range today' and lo and behold, I got a logwatch report email, which included a named section, with log entries in there. So it seems that something that's been logged by named overnight to my logfiles (i.e. '--Range yesterday') has caused issues again with logwatch's ability to send reports through my ISP's smtp servers.

Ubuntu :: Disk Full - Can't Free Any Disk Space

Jan 2, 2010

I'm running mythbuntu 9.04 and am having an issue with disk space.

I try 'rm' various log files but the space I free up lasts less than a minute before the disk reports as being full once more.

df -Th | sort gives:

Quote:

/dev/sda1 ext3 8.3G 7.9G 0 100% /
/dev/sda6 ext3 138G 125G 6.3G 96% /music
/dev/sda7 xfs 783G 617G 167G 79% /videos
/dev/sdb2 xfs 344G 242G 103G 71% /recordings

[Code]....

There's nothing enormous in /var/log and my trash and the root trash are empty.

why size and used fields are not the same despite 100% usage being reported on sda1..

Ubuntu Servers :: Disk Full But Really Isn't?

Jun 30, 2010

So i just installed ubuntu server 8.04. Got everything set up and started putting my files on it. 6 Hours of copying later I get a message saying that my Disk is full. This is a 1.5TB HD and it stopped copying at 269GB. fdisk shows the drive as 1.5TB, and ls -sh shows that only 269GB have been used. Yet I cannot add any more files. The other weird thing is that df doesn't show the hard drive, yet I know it is mounted and accessible. If it makes a difference I have it formatted to ext3.

I am trying to upgrade to 9.10 but it fails because the disk is full. I am running a Dell Mini with 16GB SSD...so there isn't a lot of free space to begin with. Added to that, I have some hefty applications (rosegarden, audacity, skype, etc) which I kind of need. Am I better off just sticking to 9.04? Are there any good ways to clean up the system and get rid of stuff that might be sticking around? I did apt-get clean and it didn't clean enough.

Debian Installation :: Full Disk Encryption (LUKS) LVM

Oct 21, 2015

I would like to configure my Debian Jessie system in this way.

Two partitions:

1) /boot on /dev/sda1
2) everything else on /dev/sda2

I want to encrypt the second partition with LUKS. And then install over it a LVM volume. Inside the LVM volume i will create the / (root), /var, /opt and /home virtual partitions. In this way, i'll get asked only once for the password to decrypt all partitions. Because if i don't use LVM, then i'll get asked for the password for each encrypted partition.

I can follow and understand almost everything of this HOW-TO for Archlinux: [URL] ....

Only two passages are unclear to me:

1) Configuring mkinitcpio

I don't understand what i should do here in order to complete this. What should i do in Debian to configure "mkinitcpio"? what is the equivalent thing to do here?

I thought that the kernel would automatically recompile itself with all installed modules on the Debian system, once cryptosetup/LUKS or LVM2 get installed.

2) Configuring the boot loader

I don't understand what should i write in /etc/default/grub. Will GRUB automatically load the LUKS and LVM2 modules? Also, I don't think that i could boot the system in this way:

cryptdevice=/dev/sda2:LVM root=/dev/mapper/LVM-????

Actually the "root=" volume is the whole volume to mount as LVM. It isn't the final root partition.

Ubuntu :: Recovery From Harddrive With Full Disk Encryption ?

Jan 10, 2011

I have a bunch of pictures that I thought I had backed up but as it turns out I didn't, the problem is I formatted the drive they were on.

It is a 1TB hard drive, and it was running Ubuntu 10.10 using full disk encryption from the alternate install CD. After formatting, I installed Ubuntu Server 10.10, also using full disk encryption.

I know the encryption key for both installs (and the keys in fact are the same).

I have turned off the machine, and have stopped writing to the disk. I am hoping because it is a 1TB drive, and I have only written over it with 2GB of data, that there is a chance I can recover the data.
